I have wanted the Taylor made Ghost so bad that I painted an old putter white. So far the paint has held up, but its still no Ghost.

Looks good.

It was a badly chipped up black. I sanded it down to the metal and airbrushed automotive paint on it. It took about 4 lightly applied coats to cover it. I used flat white but if I do it again I will use a satin finish to make it easier to keep clean.

Did you engrave White Lightning on there? That is really cool. Looks good. If only that insert weren't phonebook yellow.

Check out this one:

That is sweet. I watched Justin Rose win the tournament and did mine that Sunday. It didnt take much effort.

Wow, people really do a lot to make putts don't they? It's funny, cause to me, putting has always just been putting, It's easy. Now I see tour pros are doing everything, belly putters, white putters, heavy putters, weird grips, routines... I don't quite understand it.

Does this aid you in putting, or is it just aesthetic?

When I first saw the title of this thread, I thought of someone dumping their nice, new putter into white wall paint. I guess not.

It looks great though, very nice job. I would imagine that in bright sunlight it could get distracting, have you tried it yet?

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

That's pretty rad! I like the "White Lightning" too. I remember painting my first XG7 putter flat black because I was nearly blinded by the glare and missed a 2 foot putt in a tournament. haha. Some excuse huh?

I tried painting a 2h of mine, Metallic Bronze. I put probably 30 coats of paint with another 10 coats of clear coat. One missing element, I didn't realize how fragile it is, I don't know if manufacturers have a hardening agent or use some kind of hardening procedure. I hit one shot high on the face from the rough, and the top chipped. Now its been eaten up. When it first came out it looked great though, shiny. I'll try and get a picture.

Good job again on yours!

Generally, companies use special paints made to adhere to the material in question. Basically, the way most paints for things like this work, is they put the paint on, and it shrinks as it dries, forming a tight skin. The other way is to use paint which is charged, and to charge the club the opposite, so there's an electrostatic bonding that occurs. I would venture to guess that electrostatic charging is how they do it. The type of paint you get at the hardware store does not have the same quality, nor the same ability to stick to metal.

Yeah, that makes sense. Thanks.

Good, because halfway through typing it, I started to wonder if it did.

BTW, tried the tour issue Aldilla shaft (It was George McNeil's Titleist 909D... D2? driver to be exact, with a VooDoo), and you're right, they are good shafts.

Do you know George McNeil personally? I've hardly been watching golf lately, but when I was I always checked on him. I remember when he first came on the PGA Tour not too long ago. He was a club pro? In his 30s, if I remember correctly?

Anyway, yeah, that shaft kicks butt in my 3w. I'm currently using the VS Proto By You in my driver with some nice success.

I haven't met McNeil personally, but one of his close friends is a pro, (hopefully going to be out on tour soon.) Anyway, I practice with this guy a lot, he gets a lot of clubs from Titleist as well as many of George's hand me downs (they have the same fit).
