I think *think* Sara Brown was back too. I don't know if anyone can confirm, but I thought she was on there.

Yes, she said she would be back on her Facebook page last night....."not stalking her or anything" :P

I saw her in the commercial, along with one other girl from this season. I think she was the first girl to get booted.

I've heard Lili wins because when Michael Whan caddied for a Futures Tour player earlier this year before taking on the job, he caddied for Lili.

I noted that at the time, and thought it was an indication Lili did very well on Big Break but did not win.

They never want to make it too obvious by propping the winner very early. But like Blair O'Neal from PEI they often boost runnerup profile and stature by finding little projects. Actually, once it reached the final the winner was identified via the Golfgal System, the same one that found Kim over Sophie at Ka'anapali and Haymes/Bernie over favored Hugo/Camila at Michigan. I've mentioned it previously on these forums. Carling was interviewing weekly with Gayle, while Lili did not make an appearance, as far as I know. I've been traveling for more than a month and missed the recent interviews but I believe only Carling, Sara and Taryn interviewed this time. That's a common trend, the participants who venture deep into the program want to participate but the devastated runnerup often declines or doesn't seek the path. In the three examples it's been non-Americans not interviewing after losing to an American in the final. Perhaps coincidental but it held up again. Let me emphasize Gayle (Golfgal) doesn't have advanced info. When Ryann wasn't participating it hinted strongly she did not fare as well as expected. *** Regarding Big Break Dominican Republic, I've got to give the producers massive credit for pulling this off, no doubt in a chuckling fit of anticipation, summoning all the recent blowhards particularly on the male side. I think I saw Brian Skatell and David Mobley in that brief promo last night. Only downside: There can't be as many conflicts as projected. Someone's personality will be overwhelmed in a group comparison like that and they'll exit with a softer reputation than current.

Or, as I concluded after watching the teaser, what a massive group of d-bags! I'm already cheering for the women.

I tried not to watch this edition because there were no engaging personalities. The golf wasn't that great, either. I don't know what TGC was thinking with the ad they made up for the edition coming this September, but if it's going to be twelve weeks of these cases of arrested development, I won't be watching for sure.

Yeah, I remember seeing Elana in the commercial. She seemed in the first episode like she would be one of the favorites, I was stunned when she didn't make it out of the first show. One player I would want to see back is Gerina from PEI. She killed the ball, and was fun to watch. According to LPGA.com though she already has her tour card but it also says she hasn't played a single LPGA tournament, even though she has played 16 times on the futures tour and is in third place on the money list.

She's category 16.

i.e. She doesn't get into tournaments. They fill up before they get to her category.

Frankly, I'd rather watch an LPGA tour filled with lesser players that look like Gerina than the weekly Korean & Japanese tour events we've been watching lately.

No offense to the Asian ladies, they can flat out hit the ball! I'm just far more interested in the visuals of the American girls. :)

And now with long hair I might have to find a way to censor him on the TV. Him and Pao Gasol. Anyone know away to do that?

And Lori. Ugh. We have to see Lori again.

I'm surprised Lori Atsedes was able to participate. I predict she'll falter early. Dominican Republic was filmed in mid to late June. Lori's van was rear ended and totaled in early June at a Futures Tour event. The other driver attempted to flee. Supposedly Lori suffered considerable injuries and had to withdraw from the event, then still wasn't healthy weeks later when she returned to the Futures Tour. Their website ran a lengthy article and said Lori returned to Florida to rest during the remainder of June but obviously that was a ruse by Lori to conceal the Big Break participation. No doubt her injury will be an early theme during Big Break.

Let's face it, Dominican Republic is a free for all experiment by Big Break, like a kid let loose in his favorite store, grinning all the way. They didn't speckle the cast with high profile recent antagonists, they made it virtually exclusive to them. Of the players I recognized, only Elena Robles and William "Football" Thompson didn't qualify. They slotted into a different and smaller category, players who were ousted extremely early but had some game and personality. Elena's form no doubt contributed to her return, same with Blair. Gerina was not going to return to Big Break. She's at least a 15-1 favorite to earn a full status LPGA card to 2011 via Top 5 on the Duramed money list. With one event remaining she's 3rd with a $7000 bulge over 6th. Only 4-10 have any mathematical hope of catching her and it would take a bizarre combo of a poor event by Gerina combined with at least three players from 4-10 slotting extremely high in the event to pass her. A $7000 check is 3rd place or higher. Gerina actually benefits by others in the Top 5 finishing high and keeping the top prize money away from 6-10. Sara Brown could afford to skip two Futures Tour weeks in mid June for a Big Break rerun because she wasn't threatening a Top 10 Futures Tour finish and LPGA status for 2011. It would have been idiotic for Gerina.

    • @boogielicious and I are definitely in for the Stay & Play and will need the extra night's stay on Friday. I don't know what the plans are for our group on Friday but even if we don't make it for dinner with the rest of the Friday arrivals, I'll be more than happy to meet up somewhere for a beer or something.
    • Taking your dispersion and distance in consideration I analyzed the 4 posible ways to play the hole, or at least the ones that were listed here. I took the brown grass on the left as fescue were you need to punch out sideways to the fairway and rigth of the car path to be fescue too.  Driver "going for the green"  You have to aim more rigth, to the bunker in order to center your shotzone in between the fescue.  Wood of 240 over the bunkers I already like this one more for you. More room to land between the fescue. Balls in the fescue 11% down from 30% with driver. Improve of score from 4.55 to 4.40. 4 iron 210 yards besides the bunkers.    Also a wide area and your shot zone is better than previous ones. This makes almost the fescue dissapear. You really need to hit a bad one (sometimes shit happens). Because of that and only having 120 yards in this is the best choice so far. Down to 4.32 from 4.40. Finally the 6 Iron 180 yards to avoid all trouble.    Wide area an narrow dispersion for almost been in the fairway all the time. Similar than the previous one but 25 yards farther for the hole to avoid been in the bunkers. Average remains the same, 4.33 to 4.32.  Conclusion is easy. Either your 4iron or 6 iron of the tee are equaly good for you. Glad that you made par!
    • Wish I could have spent 5 minutes in the middle of the morning round to hit some balls at the range. Just did much more of right side through with keeping the shoulders feeling level (not dipping), and I was flushing them. Lol. Maybe too much focus on hands stuff while playing.
    • Last year I made an excel that can easily measure with my own SG data the average score for each club of the tee. Even the difference in score if you aim more left or right with the same club. I like it because it can be tweaked to account for different kind of rough, trees, hazards, greens etc.     As an example, On Par 5's that you have fescue on both sides were you can count them as a water hazard (penalty or punch out sideways), unless 3 wood or hybrid lands in a wider area between the fescue you should always hit driver. With a shorter club you are going to hit a couple less balls in the fescue than driver but you are not going to offset the fact that 100% of the shots are going to be played 30 or more yards longer. Here is a 560 par 5. Driver distance 280 yards total, 3 wood 250, hybrid 220. Distance between fescue is 30 yards (pretty tight). Dispersion for Driver is 62 yards. 56 for 3 wood and 49 for hybrid. Aiming of course at the middle of the fairway (20 yards wide) with driver you are going to hit 34% of balls on the fescue (17% left/17% right). 48% to the fairway and the rest to the rough.  The average score is going to be around 5.14. Looking at the result with 3 wood and hybrid you are going to hit less balls in the fescue but because of having longer 2nd shots you are going to score slightly worst. 5.17 and 5.25 respectively.    Things changes when the fescue is taller and you are probably going to loose the ball so changing the penalty of hitting there playing a 3 wood or hybrid gives a better score in the hole.  Off course 30 yards between penalty hazards is way to small. You normally have 60 or more, in that cases the score is going to be more close to 5 and been the Driver the weapon of choice.  The point is to see that no matter how tight the hole is, depending on the hole sometimes Driver is the play and sometimes 6 irons is the play. Is easy to see that on easy holes, but holes like this:  you need to crunch the numbers to find the best strategy.
