I am about to purchase a new set of irons and I've been mulling over the shaft choices that I have to put in them. I'm almost 100% sure that I am going to go with the Project X shafts but I do not know much about the differences between the regular Project X shafts and the Flighted Project X shafts. I have done a little bit of research and I understand that the kick point in the Flighted shafts change as it goes from long to short irons.

Is there anything else that is special about the Flighted shafts?

Does anyone on here have experience playing with either the regular or flighted Project X shafts and what was your experience with them?

Appreciate any help on this topic!

project x has high kickpoints all the way from short irons to long irons.

the flighted ones have progressive kickpoints. so in the long irons the low kick points for higher launch to get the ball up easier, mid irons have mid kick points for mid launch angle with still a little help getting the ball up, and short irons have high kickpoints for a bit lower launch as not really any help is needed getting the ball up with these irons.

id say go flighted.

I personally like my flighted shaft. I don't have any problems with getting the ball too high with irons so with my short irons, the flighted shaft wasn't too noticable.

long irons on the other hand, I definitely like the higher trajectory and softer landing. It's nice to have when you hit a 5 iron onto the green and need to land it soft.

Thanks for the information. Just what I was looking for.

Do you also use the flighted in your wedges, 56 or 60 degree?

For the non-stock wedges, most of them use a Wedge Flex shaft. This tends to be a DG S300 if you buy one off the shelf.

I can handle S300 in a short-shafted wedge, but I have Uniflex (regular flex, more or less) in my numbered irons.

Sand Trap had a thread on Wedge Flex last year:

project x has high kickpoints all the way from short irons to long irons.

So the Non-flighted version does what, hits a lower ball flight on all clubs? Does this then produce more spin to help stop the shot since it is not as high?

No. the nonflighted version does nothing. its just a shaft with standard kickpoint throughout the clubs. Why would a lower ball flight produce more spin...?

The flighted shaft help stop the shot since the long irons have a lower kickpoing (higher launch, thus softer landing, thus stopping the shot), as opposed to the short irons which have a high kickpoint which keeps the ball at a relatively lower launch for people who don't have a problem getting the ball up.

So project X is just Project X
Project X Flighted has various kick points to help elevate the longer clubs.

What are Project X Rifles??

All project X shafts are stepless shafts.

I am currently playing PX Flighted in my 3-PW, 52, 56 and 60. I like this shaft quite a bit in the irons, especially the 8,9,PW, and 52 where it helps keep the ball down. For a high ball hitter, the flighted are a good option.

I don't really care for having these in my 56 and 60. In the 6.5 flex, they feel a bit boardy and dead on finesse shots in comparison to other wedge shafts.

As long as you have a good swingspeed and are a pretty consistent player (decent ballstriker, play regularly etc.) I'd go with the flighted.

NOW...
My dad has the flighted shaft on his Callaway irons and it was a mistake. As he's aged (now in his early 60's) his swingspeed has slowed. With the new driver/shaft technologies, he hasn't lost much off the tee BUT the flighted shafts have robbed him of a lot of scoring abilities.

One last question from me. For someone coming from standard Stiff shafts that are on most common clubs you buy at the store off the shelf, to a set of clubs with Project X shafts, what could I expect to see in the way of results? Lower ball flight? More accuracy? Generally anything you have experienced.

For me, I went from using DGS300 to Project X Flighted 6.0. For a couple weeks or so I saw a 5-10 yard reduction in all my iron shots. this was expected since 6.0 is a bit stiffer than S300. Now I am actually shooting further than I used to with S300 so I am much more happier with my 6.0's. Accuracy is still fairly similar for me but the added advantage of getting the ball to land soft with long irons is definitely a plus.

I just went from KBS Tour Stiff to Project X Flighted 5.5...I felt like the KBS Tour was not quite as stiff as the DG S300 and I have read in other places that people say the Project X 5.5 is not quite as stiff as the DG S300 so I am hoping that the 5.5 matches the KBS in stiffness (feel) but with the advantage of the flighted shaft ball flight...what do you guys think?  Thanks any feedback I can get as I hit my new irons today for the first time.

It seems like the flighted shafts are what you're looking for

I have flighted 6.0 fitted on my Bridgestone J36's. My choice came down to the standard project x's and the flighted. Went with the flighted in the end as they allow me to land my 5&6 irons really soft (no 3-4 iron use hybrids) and get a more penetrating flight on my short irons. Like one of the earlier posters I have no problem getting the ball high in the air. I lost a bit of distance on my mid irons because of the higher flight, but once I got them dialled in they now fly further than my old irons that had DGS300's. Could anyone advise whether I should get them put on my vokey 52,56 and 60 wedges?

    • I did read the fine print tonight. It said replace with “similar features & function”.  8 yeas ago my purchase had features that today are available on the lower end models and the current version of my model has more “bells & whistles” than what I got 8 years ago.  So I am thinking they honored the agreement and I can’t argue the offer. since getting a credit for the full purchase price all I am really out over the past 8 years was the cost of the extended warranty, which was less than a low end  treadmill would have cost me. now the question is which model to replace with.  I’ll stay with Nordic Track or I forfeit the $1,463 credit so I will get Nordic Track.  And they honored the warranty and were not hard to work with which is a plus.
    • Generally speaking, extended warranties are a terrible deal and should almost always be avoided. They are a huge profit center for the companies that offer them, which should tell you almost everything you need to know about how much value most consumers get when purchasing them.  This is correct, and the old adage applies - only buy insurance when you can't afford the loss. This usually doesn't apply to most consumer goods.  To your second question, no I don't believe the offer is fair. They are replacing it, but it is not being replaced at "no cost to you". Since the amount being disputed (over $500) is non-trivial, I would probably push the issue. Don't waste your time on the phone with a customer service agent or a supervisor. They have probably given you all they have the authority to do. Rather, I would look at the terms of your agreement and specifically legal disputes. The odds are you probably agreed to binding arbitration in the event of a dispute. The agreement will outline what steps need to be followed, but it will probably look something like this.  1. Mail the Nordic Track legal department outlining your dispute and indicate you are not satisfied with the resolution offered.  2. Open up a case with the AAA (American Arbitration Association), along with the required documentation. 3. Wait about 4-5 weeks for a case to be opened - at which point someone from Nordic Track's legal department will offer to give you the new model at no cost to you.  They certainly don't want to spend the time and energy to fight you over $500. 4. Enjoy your new Nordic Track at no cost to you. I recently entered binding arbitration against a fairly large and well known company that screwed me over and refused to make it right. In my demand letter, I made a pretty sizeable request that included compensation for my time and frustration. Once it hit their legal department, they cut me a check - no questions asked. It was far cheaper to settle with me than to send their legal team to defend them in the arbitration.
    • I never thought of looking at it on multiple purchases like you said.  Yes, the extended may help me on 1 or 2 items but not the other 5 or 6.
    • Day 84 - Forgot to post yesterday, but I did some more chipping/pitching.    Back/neck were feeling better today, so I did a much overdue Stack session.
