The women's course rating for this setup is 80.8 and the slope is 147. I checked some of the indexes of the amateurs in the field, they are about +4.4 which would give them a course handicap of +3 for this setup. So if they shoot 78 they played to their handicap.

The course will win, I think that is a certainty. But I like the fact that it's going to play so tough because it will offer up an opportunity to substantiate/squelch some of the talk about the relative skill level between the tours that goes on on this forum.

I predict somewhere between 5-8 over par wins.

The bag:

To me, this is how a major SHOULD be laid out. As in TOUGH.

I will have to say though that 1 or 2 over par will probably be the winning score. I don't think there is anything wrong w/ that looking at the course rating for the ladies.

These girls are good but the course might just be a bit better.

Did you guys see the amateur Shean's (sp?) lie on her last hole? I think it was her last hole. It was ridiculous. It was across the hazard line and ended up in someone's divot that was not fixed. It was one of the worst lies I have ever seen. I never got a chance to see her hit her shot. If anyone saw it, post up what she hit and how it went. I am curious to know the result of that one. Very unlucky. I would have been pissed at the person that didn't fix it!!

I'm not sure it was even a divot, it looked like a gash in the ground that was perpendicular to the fairway. The ball was literally below the level of the ground.

More hysterical was the fact that her boyfriend is carrying her bag. Better yet, he doesn't even play golf, knows nothing about the sport. I loved the shots of him just looking around smiling!

Yeah. It was bad. She took a nine or an eight iron and basically hit it through the grass in front of her ball.

She ended up hitting it about thirty yards back into the fairway. Not bad. She did end up bogeying the hole, however. Keep in mind her caddy is her boyfriend, who doesn't play golf or basically have any real knowledge of what's going on.

Yeah, I knew that part. Well, that was the play I would have chosen....that was her only choice I guess. Thanks man

Two things.

I half expected Wie to seriously wonder if greens this fast is even legal.

Another; the greens at Oakmount are Poa Ana (sp?), which of course is the same grass of the greens at Pebble.

Where is the uproar about Oakmounts greens that there was about Pebble's? Or haven't I looked hard enough?

I have zero doubt in my mind that the winner will be over par.

Please, I beg of whoever is telecasting this tournament: DO NOT LET JOHNNY MILLER ON THE AIR! He will never stop talking about his 63. NEVER.

Well you better watch without sound then because he will be working the coverage on NBC on the weekend.

You would have to find someone who cares. Maybe the men are just whinier than the women.

Sorry, but whats wrong with the greens? They are fast, but they are also pretty big compared to Pebble and they didnt seem bumpy yesterday evening in the telecast. And really, complaining about stuff like that, trying to excuse your bad play (you will never see somebody with a good round complaining about stuff like that), just makes you more enemies than friends - thats the last thing the LPGA needs.

Maybe there is even something like a "dont bitch about the course" policy set by the LPGA media guys, otherwise Michelle Wie would have been all over this one to excuse her crappy play.

Do you count even par or 1-under at the US Open a good round? If so, then Dustin Johnson did it, so never say "never."

    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
    • I would think that 3 in a row with the same players might get some behind the scenes examination from the SCGA if they were suspect.  Are there any clubs questioning the results?
    • What simple fact? A golf match is not a coin flip — there is a fact for you. I'm trying to help you, and you're throwing out what could easily be called sour grapes. Come with FACTS, not weak analogies. Then you've got nothing. Hopefully they've done a better job of making their case. 😛
    • It's pretty close. The odds of a 50/50 shot going your way 21 times are greater than 1 in a million!  I guess your point is, that simple fact is not enough to declare these guys dirty rotten sandbaggers. I disagree, but fair enough. I posted it here on the message board to get different perspectives, after all.  I probably won't be digging further into specific scores. I have no dog in this fight beyond a generalized contempt for sandbagging. With that said, it would not surprise if a lot of clubs shared my concern and were grousing about it to the SCGA.
