How about putting an * next to your name so that we know that anything you write is written by a person with little knowledge about golf.

How the hell is playing within the rules cheating? What an insulting and moronic comment. $10,000 in your Paypal account if you can explain why they were "cheating". It's cheating if there is no temporary rule in place that REQUIRES/ALLOWS you to lift, clean and place.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Grats to Paul, w0w 59, that's insane (clap, clap, clap), Steve Stricker didn't do so bad himself either with a 60

Crazy, shooting a 59 in the first round and having only a one stroke lead.

Watched clips of his round yesterday......he was putting out of his mind. They were going in from everywhere. 187 feet of putts, 22 putts total. Talk about being in a zone. That last putt to seal the deal was clutch....he knew it was for 59 and hit it dead center. How about Stricker also....only 1 out of the lead...crazy stuff.

It was his putting that got him the 59 anyway. 187 feet of putts 22 total.

Lighten up Francis. I know why the PGA Tour uses lift clean and place, but I don't agree with it. The USGA held two US Opens at Bethpage when it was under water and they played the ball down. If you're in casual water fine, but to never have to hit a shot with a dirty ball, from a perfect lie all day, certainly made a difference.

Then of course there is this from the USGA decision book:
Misc./1 Course Record The term "course record" is not defined in the Rules of Golf. However, it is generally accepted that a record score should be recognized as the official "course record" only if made in an individual stroke-play competition (excluding bogey, par or Stableford competitions) with the holes and tee-markers in their proper medal or championship positions. It is recommended that a record score should not be recognized as the official "course record" if a Local Rule permitting preferred lies is in operation.

I stand by my statement.

Interesting indeed. However, that doesn't come close to making it "cheating."

"Lift, clean, and cheat" is just an expression, and one that's been around for a while. No one was accusing anyone of actually cheating, so let's just relax everybody.

Exactly. I always use that when it comes to the PGA Tour because I see no reason the pros should not play the ball down all the time.

Get back to Goydos and Stricker kids..... They're both at the top still today. Looks like it could be a 2 man shootout this weekend if they keep it together.

Goydos is playing nicely, but that's the second missed short putt in the past few holes. Not like him right now.

I jinkst Goydos....Right after I made my last post he started missing putts. Still a good round. Stricker put together a fine two day total. I'd like to see Stricker win it Sunday.

Strick is playing some crazy golf right now, Goydos has shot 59-68-67 and is 6 back, just a standard 62 today though for Strick, pretty uneventful :)

I walked with Goydos during his 59 and it was awesome to watch. That guy was on fire during every shot. It was almost comical when he was putting, because anywhere the ball landed, I knew he'd hole it out. I also followed Stricker and wow, I thought "you gotta be kidding me" we can't have two 59's can we? Needless to say, one of the best PGA rounds I've ever seen live.

On another note, I watched KJ Choi on the putting green and I honestly thought his putting stroke was a "practice" of some sort. Nope, I watched him during a couple holes and he was doing it. Duval was on the putting green while Choi was working with the putter and I swear I saw him, Tim Clark, and a couple other guys all laughing. Oh well...whatever works. Cheers.
