Is it just me? I get too exhausted after 18 holes and can't do anything after.

Are you walking or Riding?

I've walked a Hilly 27 holes several times this year and that wore me out. But then again, I'm 51 yrs old.

I like to walk and carry the bag and can play 18 without a problem. Could probably handle 36 if it wasn't 97 degrees out. Golf doesn't really make me tired. Lately it has started to hurt my feet after a while, though.

I walked 18 on a course with a bunch of really steep hills sunday, not my finest after-hours. Fell asleep sitting in my computer chair later that day haha

Walking 18, yeah pretty whipped at my home course. Riding, not so much unless it's a tournament round where I'm grinding or a round where I'm fighting to shoot a low score. I get pretty mentally tired which wears on me physically. But overall, 18 holes is a cakewalk.

After walking 18 I can feel it a bit, especially on my shoulders/back, but I could still play 36 if I had to. It's mostly the next day my shoulders are a little stiff.

Riding 18 I can play for like 10 hours.

I work out 4 days a week so I think I am pretty fit. I think the heat has a lot to do with it.

My son has High school tryouts in about 2 weeks. They have to walk 72 holes in 4 days. I'm curious to see how the 14 year old does with this :).

I honestly don't think I could do that. Maybe if the weather was great and I had a cart, I might be able to pull it off, but I'm doubting it.

In the NE heat, 18 holes, I feel it, but it's not that bad because I run and cycle in the heat, so I'm used to it.

I once played 34 holes (ran out of light) on Bethpage Black in weather like this NE heat wave and was tired, but not completely wiped out, but I was running 40 mile weeks, plus cycling and other sports. When you're active, you hold up pretty well.

Steve

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

I'm tired but as long as I don't go inside and sit around in the A/C, I can play another. I did go home one Sat. noon, lied around for a while, took a little nap and when I got back that afternoon, I was pitiful. Too stiff and sore to hit the ball. It's tough to get old, but that's better than the alternative.

  • 8 years later...

Just a few years ago it was common for one of us to announce after 18, "How about another nine!" My response would always be, "Why not? We're here!"

Now I'm 66, and my response is usually, "No, I'm done!" If it's really hot and humid my legs start getting wobbly toward the end of 18.

I'd love to be able to go more, but there was something we noticed a few years ago. We'd go out for that 3rd nine and just hack the crap out of the course! We were just losing it!

I’ve often practiced for 6 or more hours in the summer heat. Range area, short game area and some putting. 18 holes with a cart is a mild stroll.

    • Eh. He broke ONE of Tiger's records. Youngest to be ranked #1 in AJGA. It didn't help that Tiger's birthday is in late December, or that Tiger didn't play many AJGA events before he was 15. • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
    • Day 1: Spent some time hitting some balls. Working on my hips and a “soft” and straight trail arm.
