Just read you comment, if anything its the other way around, why did it become fashionable to call it the british open? The open is open to the world, the qualification process is way more open to worldwide qualification than any other, I guess its cool to call the us open the open if you are from their because its your open, but the open isnt the british open its a world open, and therefore should be refered to as such.

I can't answer when it became fashionable to call it the British Open, because that was many years before I was born. If you don't recall North Americans referring to The Open Championship virtually exclusively as "The British Open", and the US Open as "the Open", then you're either very young or not from North America. Or both.

Anyway, it doesn't seem like you're the right person to answer my question. I would have asked it in a separate thread, but 1.) it's not really that important, and 2.) it gets touched on every July.

I know americans call it the british open is listed like that on the uspga website, as for the rest fair enough, and jamo the name of the "the open" doesnt need to be differentiated from other opens because they arent called the open, they are called the us open or the Irish open etc, they will only be mistaken if you mistake the name of other opens ie calling the us open "the open" and therefore two wrongs shouldnt make a right

    • Above, or you could also make yourself a set of homemade speed training aids, instructions are all over the internet.
    • Day 202.  This evening, I spent ten minutes hitting balls.  I noticed my rehearsal swings weren't getting to where I expected and that my front arm was folding almost at setup.  I wonder if this was the issue yesterday?  I will have to pay more attention going forward.  By the way, I say "the issue yesterday" as if I hit the ball horribly.  Other than the first shot O.B. (which was also my first shot of the day -- range was closed), I played quite well, beating the 10 handicap mark on strokes gained by nearly a full stroke, and if we ignore the opening O.B. (which I maintain wouldn't have happened if I had been able to hit a few balls to warm up -- yes, it still counts of course), I'm under my handicap in SG:D for the day, too.
