Any suggestions for wrist flipping! Bought the tour striker a few months ago and I can hit it ok but very low on the face, some shots are worm burners. If I hit one handed with the left hand only they feel firm, as soon as I put my right hand on it then the flip happens. Saw an ad for : hit down dammit , would this help me solve my problem? Thanks for any help and or suggestions, I am a 10 handicap and would finally like to hit better and more solid shots!

Confessions of a former flipper is a good video to help with flipping. Tour striker is great, Impact bag works well. Lessons help.

Thanks for the tip! Brians web site looks very interesting, the twistaway must be an important part of the video. Think I will order the web version and check it out. Have been playing golf for over 40 years and not until recently did anyone tell me that I flipped. My 18 and 20 year old sons who are scratch golfers have tried to help me but with little or no success. Have days that I think why am I even playing!

I hear ya mate. Been flipping myself all around the golf course for 3 years now, it's getting tiresome.

I have the same problem for the last 8 years. Now I am determined to get rid of it. At the range, I try to to hit the rubber tee with slow motion while maintaining the angle between the club and my left arm until the point of impact. Basically driving forward with the hip and turning the hip. Sometimes I do the slow motion swing twice for every full speed swing. This suppose to build muscle memory into your body of the correct swing. It seems to help a little bit. At home I also hit the impact bag.

Try the old hockey stick swing with a hockey stick or broom. If you flip you will break your wrists. It will help ingrain the feeling of the handle leading the clubface through the ball.

I never liked the phrase hit down. I think it should be hit through, with the clubface's lowest point well in front of the ball.

I took the phrase too literally and one rainy day, I saw my divots dig 3 inches *INTO* the ground.

I would start with small swings. Hit little 1/2 chips with a pitching wedge, firm flat left wrist, straight left arm, right wrist cupped, divots in front of the ball. Maybe even tee it up a tad, get that divot in front of the ball, right arm extended past impact.

Practice in front of the TV or whenever you have a couple of minutes the correct impact position. Remember exactly how it feels when you have the hands in front at impact.

Got the Manzella download for confessions of a flipper, happy to say that with some practice I am hitting the ball much better. Keeping my wrist cocked is a little tuff but when I do and just pivot with the shoulders its like a religious experience! Man what a change when you swing correctly. Its going to take some getting used to, but I am hopeful that I can never worry about flipping again! Thanks to all for the tips.

I have been working on this for the last 6 weeks and it creeps in every now and again. The key is to trust it and then you can bust it without the flippity do.

I was the classic Flipper at the ball. But thats because i was on my back foot at impact, and a huge reverse C before hitting the ball. I got really good at timing this shot because my golf ball was back more in my stance and i played this way for 5+ years. Now that i fixed my weight shift, my balance, and am working on my swing path, i still flip at it a bit. i can tell mostly with my drives, which tend to just seem like they float out into the fairway. I get decent distance, but no roll at all. Also sometimes my wedges will come up short, especially my sandwedge.

But its getting better, just concentrating on getting the feeling of a flat to slightly bowed wrist at impact.

Even par tonight on the back nine going into 17 and make a double, then bogey 18! Made some great progress tonight though, for the first time I can feel what a pure shot should be. Thanks to all for the help, Manzella rocks!

I played yesterday, and like I said I have the flip creep in every now and then. I ended up at 81 with two trips and a double. One big score was from the right heavy rough with a 5iron flip that went screaming left ob. I redropped, hit the next shot straight on the green and it ran off. Another was a flipper tee shot that went into a hazard. The rest of the round had some great shots with 10 pars, 1 bird, and 2 bogeys. It mostly happened when I was a little tense over the shot trying to hit something spectacular.

So, like you I am making progress. What specifically can you share from Manzella? What I do is the split-hands drill (hockey drill) and the dowel in the grip drill.

Used to be a nasty flipper, and learned to play with it I guess. Eventually decided to combat the problem, talk about a slow process. Haven't seen my swing on video in a while but I know I'm still flipping a little. Tough habit to break.

A lot of it for me is getting my weight to the front foot, the arms just automatically extend when I do that. Trying to force the extension with your weight not forward is basically impossible for me. Took a long time to figure that out.

So far just getting my wrists cocked and then feeling the shoulder pivot seems to help, also have tried the towel bit too.

I also downloaded "Manzella Former Flipper" and WOW, I saw IMMEDIATE results. This and the glove under the armpit are the two best tips that have helped me.

I have read this concept many times but never grasped it. I was always locked into the thought of "hitting down and compress the ball" which was somewhat misleading in my mind. That thought for me resulted in 3" deep divots, almost bent shafts and broken wrists.

Since I am a visual learner, seeing Brian explain this then mimicing the swing clicked instantly. I will admit, it felt goofy and awkward at first. I have some land that leads into the woods behind me and ran out to test this as soon as I finished the video. I hit 2 balls and my 7i had to be at least 150, straight and a nice trajectory rather than the sky high ball that was from my scoop and flip that I have been able to get away with it to a degree of success.

I can see I am going to have to learn the distance of my clubs all over again. My previous 7i will be now probably a 9i. So I expect scores to be all over the place (high) as I dial this in.

I also need to now incorporate the flat wrist into the full swing with long irons, driver, woods, hybrids rather that the "punch" type shot that is used to learn the concept using 7i and below.

I also use a glove from Swing Dynamics (I think thats the name) that has a plastic hinge in the back of the glove that makes you keep a flat wrist. I originally bought this because of an injury and needed support but now serves for this new learning curve very nicely. Not sure if its USGA legal for playing with but that is not a concern of mine at this point.

Working my way up to the driver with the "new" swing thoughts, pretty tough to do but had one last night that was a bomb! Even my 20 year old son was impressed. The next hole though I managed to slice one to about 200 yards! Work in progress for sure but I am going to stick with it. Glad I found this forum. Thanks guys!

Tour Tempo by Novosel worked wonders form my flipping. I totally got rid of it. For me I was trying to kill the ball too hard and had to actually slow down my downswing a bit....flip went away. Worked for me anyway.

    • OPPs, I guess I have been doing the drill incorrectly, just ignore this.  But as they say, mistakes are learning opportunities. Let’s hope I can learn from mine.
    • Some thoughts after the 1st 9 holes of the year. The driver was pretty good, nothing crazy. My miss seems to be just a push. The start line is a bit too far right for my taste, but they are drawing back at least. Hitting middle-ish of the face to slightly toe. Part of the right miss is a bit of open face and off the toe slightly.  Irons, some really good strikes, others were not so good. I am feeling a few things, when I am being mindful of the swing I made.  1) Got to get the pause down again, and keep things shorter (as usual). One of the best iron shots was when I tried to mimic Rahm's swing length, lol. I caught a flier and hit an 8-iron like 190 yards into an area of no return for that golf ball. The swing felt great 😉  2) I got to stay taller in transition, feel like I gain tons of space between my hands and my chest. The bad swing is the old swing, bad right elbow, tilt to lower the club. This was too much shallowing, and hitting the ball fat. I just think of it this way, you are bent over, and you can reach the ball at address. So, you can reach the ball at impact by getting your hands down.  3) The final thing is the timing. It might take some time to get some flow into the swing. Timing up hands down and the turn is a bit off. Focusing on the hands down kind of stalls everything for me, at least it feels like my hips do not turn. I end up hitting a decent strike, just feels meh athletically, lol.  Short game was Ok, which means pretty good for not practicing it. Not short, but not round destroying.  Putting, doing much better now that I quickened up my routine. Line up, looking at my target. Glance down at the ball to get into my stance. Glance up at my target spot again, then hit the ball with in like 1-2 seconds after looking back down at the ball. Trying not to get to static over the ball while putting.
    • Oh I'm dumb, I just noticed I did the MyStrategy from the wrong tee box. I don't think it changes anything, though. I'll play it as a three shot hole and I still don't really want to miss right (guy I played with on Sunday never found his ball he hit just over the trees right). I think the trees left are considered part of the environmentally sensitive area because it's part of the drainage area for the course. I actually like this hole a lot. I'll try to remember to take a picture next time. I probably overestimated the wind speed. We had sustained winds of like 12-15mph with gusts up to 25mph. The wind is actually forecast to be WNW on Saturday instead of WSW like was when I played on Sunday so if I play this hole again the wind will be pushing towards that bunker. Similar speeds, though. Wind is always a factor at this course because there's really nothing blocking it. I'm definitely going to have to pay attention to it, especially with the wind. I hit a handful of short iron approaches a lot farther than I thought I would on Sunday. As of right now the only thing I know for sure is I'm starting on Ridge. I don't know if the back 9 will be played on Meadow or Lake.
    • Day 113: 4/18/24 Stack training progress check after finishing my 6th program, and 4th Full Speed Spectrum Training session, which is recommended for my next program.     Gained 1 mph with driver, 195 g, 95g. Maintained with 280 g , and gained 2 with 145 g. Lost 1 mph on both lead and trail arm. Felt like I lost distance in my last round…
    • Please forgive the sweaty shirt.  Just got off the treadmill and decided to do my Evolvr drill.
