Big Fee for club entry
$500/mo club fees
$600 for irons last year, probably will last 'til 2012
$? for the driver/fairway wood I'm going to purchase in the coming weeks. Probably will last 1-2 seasons
$49/month for balls

Similar expenses for wife and three kids.

Rewards:

Played with my granparents.
Play regularly with my parents.
Expect to play for many years with my wife, kids and future grandkids.

Worth it.

Without figuring it all out.... TOO MUCH! This is the first season I have played with the goal of improving, going from shooting around 110 to shooting low 90s now. I bought a new driver, new irons, new bag, tons of shirts, shoes, tried all kinds of balls etc etc. It has definetly added up, and I have had a few tight months because of it, but so worth it. I wouldn't trade it back for anything

These are annual totals - equipment expenditure is just a bit of a guess.
  • Membership : $1100 - 2 x courses
  • Equipment Purchases : Say $400 a year for the odd used wedge/driver here and there
  • Balls : $200 - I usually buy AAA used off eBay
  • Gloves : $150 - I buy 6 or so every 6 months
  • Shoes : $150 - I get a new pair every year or so - they last if you look after them
  • Food/Beverages : Not much, I usually only drink water and take my own snacks but I'll have a beer or two AFTER comp rounds on the weekend so say $200
  • Tournament/Comp Fees : $1500 - I play a lot of comp rounds at the courses I am a member of and also enter in to a lot of state level tournaments, occasionally I'll try to qualify for national amateur/open events
  • Clothing : $300 - I'll buy some pants or a new shirt or pullover from time to time, never anything expensive.

So all up about $4000 a year - better not let the wife see this post!

I spend $60 a month on greens fees.
Ive spent easily over $600 this year on equipment, but now Im pretty much set. Im looking to get 1 more wedge and am looking for a different putter, but after that, I plan to keep the set I have.
I dont spend anything on food/beer at the course.

My league is $500 for the season, I try to play at least one full round a weekend that ranges between $38-55. I play a few outings as well at $100 a pop.

I'd say I spend $300 a month roughly on green fees, clubs thats another story.

I play about once a week twilight at about 20 a round or $80 a month, usually hit the range once a week or play 9 for 10 bucks so 40 a month. Basically $120 to play a month plus misc equipment, balls, tees etc. I find economical ways to play.

I play once a week and practice twice per week.

Twighlight rounds range from $19-$35 per round
Range balls $50 every 2 weeks
Dozen golf balls every 2 weeks $19 per dozen (yes, I lose a lot of balls - hence why I buy the cheapies)

So I spend about $240 per month on routine golf purchases. Clubs and other gadgets are extra, but I don't buy those every month. Or at least try not to...

How much do you spend / month on fees?

Hmmm, kind of scary since I've never added it up before. I'm guessing its about the same as we spend on skiing in the winter.

Roughly: $400/month on fees $500/year on equipment (I try to only make one big purchase per year. This year was a uPro GPS.) $50/year on balls (I buy used balls from a guy I know who does it for charity. I get a dozen spotless OneBlack's for $8, or a dozen scuffed ProV1's for $3) $15/round on beverages & food (I don't drink alcohol while playing. Keeps things cheaper and I play better) Lots on clothing, but since I wear golf attire in many other settings, I wouldn't put this in the mix, except maybe golf shoes. $120 every two years or so. I'm sure there are lots of miscellaneous stuff, but no idea how much it adds up to. Just spent $10 on a quick reference rules guide for my bag, for example.

about $1000/month - that includes membership, driving range, cart fees and food/alcohol.

Equipment expenditures are about $350 so far for this year with another $700 to be spent shortly.

Then the BS little things like $10 for soft spikes about every 5 weeks, a new glove for about $10-$15 once a month.

Annual total estimate would be $17k-$18k/year.

Another thread made me wonder about how much we spend on this game.

$350 per month of fees. $800 per year on equipment - on average $50 per month for food/beer at course $7500 on average per year for miscellaneous - tournaments, golf vacations, shoes and the other misc stuff. So, probably close to $13.5k +/- per year. I don't count clothing cause I wear the same clothes to work that I play golf in.

$350 per month of fees.

Dude you're loaded.

About $120 a month of fees. About $250 a year on equipment. About $16 (Gotta have my Arnie) About $100 on pretty much everything else I make due with whatever I have.

My monthly bill at the course is about $1000/month - that includes membership, driving range, cart fees and food/alcohol. On top of that it is another $20-$30 per round for cart girl (2-4 times a week).

Lucky you! I wish I could spend 25% of that.

    • Yea Club Rat said it. I really enjoyed the Senator and the Judge, then over to Grand National where there a couple good courses plus a fun par 3. The one I do play whenever I visit there is Ross Bridge; something about this course that is just good fun. I hope to play more of the courses in the future, but tomorrow is promised to no one, so hope is the key word. Have Fun, iSank

    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
