Yay for working at a country club for free golf for me and one other along with carts, also driving range and practice facility. I started playing last year, so all my clubs are my first of that kind and this was the first year of clothes/shoes (unless I wanted to use the ones from when I was 10)

Money spent this year on golf:
10$ greens fees
~225$ on clothes/shoes
~50$ on balls ( I have like 4 ziploc bags full)
~ 465$ on equipment (170$ on driver, 30$ on 56*, 130$ on 3W, 125$ on Pi5's.. brand spanking new)

total: 750$.. I got the driver for my birthday and clothes my mom helped me out with cause she wants me to start the hobby cause her dad/brother and the rest of that family plays.

Last year: 200$ GF, 140$ putter, 160$ irons, 100$ hybrid, 100$ bag, 3I (unsure, 60* was like ~85.

probably like 800$..

Remember I just started last year so it's not like these are replacements...

hmm lets see

i usually dont pay green fees anywhere, my brother is a pro and he gets me on when i wanna play

equipment, i just use my brothers left over staff gear when he gets new sticks

i dont wear a glove so that saves me a little bit at least

food... maybe 50 a month.

i guess i am pretty lucky that he is a pro, i have gotten to play alot of courses that i would never had a chance to play if it wasnt for him.

Dude you're loaded.

Loaded no, not really. I am just old and everything I own (house/furnishings/car/truck) is paid for plus I still work so I can enjoy this kind of stuff.

Greens Fees... $150 a month (I play about 60-80 rounds per year)
Equipment... some years more than others, but I buy shoes pretty much yearly ($60-100), gloves ($60-80), balls ($100-150), clubs ($200).
Food and Bev... maybe $20-40 a month
miscellaneous.... spikes ($20), other ($50), clothes ($75)

all in all... around $2500-$3000 for myself to play golf. Of course my wife plays too, but not as much, and we take at least one vacation per year... so this number is a bit on the low side.

I am thrifty as hell though... I bought ten dozen Maxfli Fires for $10-12 a dozen... I get tee times from last minute golfer, look for twilight rates, and walk a lot. I often take food and drink water, but will get the occaisional hotdog or sandwich at the turn. I only drink (alcohol) on vacation or in scrambles. I buy clothes at the end of the season when they are more than 1/2 off. I find coupons for courses and web specials.
My Clubs: Callaway FT-i Tour LCG 9.5° w/ Matrix Ozik Xcon 6 stiff; Sonartec GS Tour 14° w/ Graphite Design Red Ice 70 stiff; Adams Idea Pro 2h(18°) & 3h(20°) w/ Aldila VS Proto 80 stiff; Adams Idea Pro Forged 4-PW w/ TT Black Gold stiff; Cleveland CG12 DSG RTG 52°-10° & 58°-10°; Odyssey...

Oh dear God...this is going to hurt.

How much do you spend / month on fees? I'm going to say $1000. though that does include practice rounds for tourneys. This is for a month not a year.

How much do you spend / year on equipment? Oh dear God shoot me. I would say, and I'm guessing here as the year isn't finished, ummm $5000. Now I'm including balls, tees, gloves, cleats, clubs, grips, shafts, shoes, clothing, etc.

How much do you spend / month on food/beer at the course? I pack lunches for the tourneys, when my son is playing a tourney on his own he'll usually pay for it himself. So yearly...I'd say $1000. Oh and with regards to the beer, it depends on how bad he's playing that his parents start drinking. LOL

How much do you spend / year on miscellaneous? Coach fees, tournament member fees, tournaments, travel, lodging, food... after just adding up this month I'm going to say....$20000. a year.

39k in one year. ~thud~

Though after looking at this list I will say we only have ONE MORE year of junior golf, then he's off to college, so we can still be broke. ~muttering~ why couldn't he have picked up a cheap sport?~

Edited to add...he does work so he does help out.

Here's hoping some day he makes it on Tour and "makes it" for real. Then maybe he will remember all that you all have sacrificed for him to get there.

Rick...at this point, I just want him in college. With regards to the Pro thing...there's many more kids out there that are way more talented then him. Not to bag on my kid, but I don't see him playing professionally straight out of college....maybe as he matures to ahhh, 26, but as of right now, ummm no. LOL

Lets take last year - thats easier to list:

Membership - 1900 €
Lessons - 3000 € (i take a lot of lessons - dont know if its worth it though)
Equipment like irons/drivers/balls/gloves/shoes - 3000 €
Range balls - 500 €
Food - 1000 €
Tournament entriy fees - 500 €
Cart rental - 300 € (i mostly walk)

I never really made a list of that before - but that looks like quite some money and that doesnt even include my golf holidays which were plenty (probably another 15k).

This year - not really liking the economic development - i cut back on equipment/lessons and holidays (why should i go on golf holiday when its still warm outside here).

Just a quick poll on how much money does everyone spend on golf annually. Give it a think, probably much more than you think. Count absolutely everything, including cloths, fees, memberships, etc...

One of the best things about golf equipment is, at least with me, you can find someone to buy your old clubs and come near your original investment if not in front(scrubs.lol).

I used to race motorcycles. I would drop $500 minimum per weekend, on tires, gas, travel expenses, food. Ohh wait, I forgot entry fees at 200 per weekend. Golf is a pittance compared to that complete utter money pit.

Club wise, i don't replace my clubs too often... This year however, I replaced everything due to someone breaking into my car.

Clubs total = roughly $2000
Clothes = somewhere around $400 including shoes
Range = estimating 4 times a week, $14-20 per session = $3000 (jesus christ!)
Green fees = estimating roughly once a week, average $50 green fee = $2500-$3000

Golf membership is $120/mo, range membership is $200. Figure average of $50/mo playing misc courses, and figure $600 in equipment per year. Not really too bad in the grand scheme of hobby expenses.

Hmm... Since restarting this summer:

Clubs - $85 for iron set, $59 for wedges, $25 for putter = $169 (haven't replaced wood/driver yet)
Bag - $30
Clothes - $30 (2 shirts on drastic sale... no shoes yet)
Balls - $30/50 ball bucket
Accessories - $12.50 for Floppys, about $16 for some other stuff (tees, training aid), $25 for a mat, $7 for a glove = $60.50
Greens fees - $14 ($7x2 for 2 rounds thus far...)
Range fees - $19 (2 medium, one small bucket)

About $350 so far this year. Easily around $450 if I get some shoes...

May regrip my new wedges however... and a lot of these numbers won't be yearly things, so I can't really say I'd pay $500/year, at least with as often as I'm able to go to the range or on the course so far.

What's in my Tartan Precise TS-869 Bag:
Woods: Northwestern 1W, 3W, stock grip
Hybrids: 855 Graphite shaft 3H, 4H, Golf Pride Tour Wrap midsize grips
Irons: 855 R flex steel shaft 5-PW, Golf Pride Tour Wrap midsize grips
Wedges: PureSpin Tour Series Diamond Face 52* AW, 56* SW, 60* LW, Golf Pride...

The golf industry is pretty huge and I dont mind adding to it. I wish that golf would be a requirement for half a semester in jr high. It would really increase the level of competition and people would realize how great this game is b4 they are 60.

Id say $500-$1,000 and even that is probably a bit on the conservative side.
