First of all, I doubt that Rory thought through detailed ramifications and interpretations of his statement. It sounds like an honest answer from someone who generally seems to speak fairly honestly.

However, even if it was a call-out, I wouldn't consider it foolish. Rory is one of the generation who grew up aiming to beat Tiger. He's been dreaming his whole golf life of being the guy to beat Tiger at his game. Think of what a let-down it would be for it to end this way, for Tiger to fade without ever really playing against him in near top form. He's got to want Tiger back so that he can show he's better.

Sure, he'll be happy to win, but I don't think any of those young guys wants to win just because Tiger faded away. They want to unseat the king.

If tiger was back to his best Id still fancy rory to be honest, better swing, hits it further, better iron player, however tiger is better around and on the greens, rory would wipe the floor with him at the moment

you think rory could beat a year 2000 tiger woods? what would ever give you that idea?

The Ryder Cup has a storied history of crap-talking...Rory is certainly in line with his comments. As for Tiger, he knows how to shut him up...so...can he?

I'm not a fan of trash talking in pro golf, in general. I like it better when the guys give thier little stock answers and let thier playing do the talking. Here's what I would've said - if I were Rory:

"Tiger is an amazing player with huge talent. At any moment, I fully expect him to return to his A game and, frankly, I think that's what we're all hoping to see out on the course. Everybody wants a chance to test themselves against the greatest players in the world, playing at thier best. That's what professional golf is all about. Hopefully I can go out there and be patient, capitolize on the opportunities that come my way and help my team get a victory."

But I am 20 years older than him and have no talent for golf. . can't say I would've said that if I had his talent at his age.

i dont think rory could beat tiger in his current state either. Not saying Rory isnt good but I dont think too many people can beat him in match play

Of course people can beat him in Match play. He's lost many times at the accenture matchplay, and at the Ryder Cup.And that was when people

were intimidated by him.No one's intimidated by him anymore so what makes you think he couldn't be beaten?

I think Tiger has become complacent as of late. I think he doubts himself now and is somewhat numb to being trash talked. I don't know if this so called quote will change his demeanor in the Ryder Cup. I know Rory idolized Tiger growing up but he also is a respectful young man by all accounts so he may have changed his tune in light of Tiger's digressions, so I am unsure in his stance or respect of Tiger lays.

Secondly, I believe Tiger loves team play with his peers. I think at times his behavior is geared toward impressing them or wanting to feel welcome. Think of a mixed race child growing up at a affluent country club, I bet there was a lot of people looking down their noses at him. It is hard to get passed ingrained behavior even if it is self imposed.

"My ball is on top of a rock in the hazard, do I get some sort of relief?"

If you mean it's GAY, I agree.

Maybe Rory is flapping hoping to 1) push for Tiger as a captains pick, and 2) promote the Ryder Cup for viewership. Either way, at least he's calling out Tiger at the lowest point of his career. No way this happens at any other time given the history with Tiger's jaw-flapping opponents in the past.

Despite all that have annointed him, Rory is prone to a bad stretch. I think he's missed the cut 5 times out of the 13 evetns he's played in this year (including The Masters and the US Open). Granted, he's played better overall, but it's golf ...

Confidence is such an important part of the game, If you don't think you have what it takes to win and beat everyone else on the course, don't even bother playing. Rory just vocalized it.

I could careless about Rory and Tiger I want to see Rory vs Bubba, Dustin Johnson etc. I want to see Rory play some of the top young U.S. players that would make the Ryder Cup exciting in my eyes.

Dustin Johnson would bottle it, he's got a lot of problems with nerves.

Rory isn't a short hitter either. I'd say he'd take bubba too. Rory V Furyk Would be a good game.

    • Yea Club Rat said it. I really enjoyed the Senator and the Judge, then over to Grand National where there a couple good courses plus a fun par 3. The one I do play whenever I visit there is Ross Bridge; something about this course that is just good fun. I hope to play more of the courses in the future, but tomorrow is promised to no one, so hope is the key word. Have Fun, iSank

    • Eh. He broke ONE of Tiger's records. Youngest to be ranked #1 in AJGA. It didn't help that Tiger's birthday is in late December, or that Tiger didn't play many AJGA events before he was 15. Did he do any of these things? TIGER WOODS' AMATEUR VICTORIES YEAR WIN(S) 1984 10-and- under Junior World Golf Championships Boys    1985 10-and- under Junior World Golf Championships Boys    1988 Boy's 11-12 Junior World Golf Championships   1989 Boy's 13-14 Junior World Golf Championships   1990 Boy's 13-14 Junior World Golf Championships, Insurance Youth Golf Classic   1991 U.S. Junior Amateur, Boys 15–17 Junior World Golf Championships, Orange Bowl International Junior Look at some other AJGA Players of the Year. How many of these names do you recognize? A few, for sure. I assure y'all, I'm not trying to pee in your Cheerios. I just don't get what the point is. Okay. I get that, then. Thanks.
    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
