This is a tough one, but Corey is a bright guy, and I feel he's got a good head on his shoulders.

Here's the team so far:

Phil Mickelson***
Hunter Mahan**
Bubba Watson*
Jim Furyk**
Steve Stricker**
Dustin Johnson*
Jeff Overton
Matt Kuchar*

Here's the "enemy" (or your team, depending on where you live).

Lee Westwood*
Rory McIlroy*
Martin Kaymer*, ***
Graeme McDowell*, ***
Ian Poulter*
Ross Fisher*
Francesco Molinari
Peter Hanson**
Miguel Ángel Jiménez**
Luke Donald*
Edoardo Molinari**
Padraig Harrington

* = Won once this year
** = Won twice this year
*** = Won major this year

Now, so far, the Europeans have a lot more stars next to their names. The Americans 10 wins between the 8 of them. The 12 Europeans have 15 wins among them. So, tell me, who does Corey pick to level that field?

Why isn't there stars next to Harrington's name?

When is pavin choosing the rest of the team?

If I was pavin, here would be my picks:

Tiger, Cink, Zach Johnson, Bo Van Pelt.

As for Europe, I think CMont made the right choices. Having both the Molinari brothers is a great assett for the team, Paddy is a given (i'd pick him over Rose any day), and i'm nto holding my breath for Luke Donald but his front nine round 4 Barclays are amazing. If he can play liek that, great pick.

He didn't win this year.

After the Deutche Bank. Personally, I like Tiger, Zach Johnson, Anthony Kim, and J.B. Holmes. J.B. plays his ass off when he's pumped, and AK and Tiger together? Forget about it. Those two are awesome together. I also feel Kevin Na is underrated in general, and Ryan Moore may be a good pick. Fowler is good, but a bit too wild.

I like AK as much as the next guy and I can really appreciate his dedication to getting on the Ryders Cup this year despite his injury...but man, his recent play has made it so much harder to pick him. I think he's just gotta play more and more and hopefully get his game back in gear at the Deutche Bank.

If I were Pavin, my picks would be:
Tiger
Zach Johnson
Nick Watney
Cink

He's already got guys like Watson, Overton, and Kuchar who are hot right now and played well of late to get in... I'd stick to some vets and consistant top ranked world players to round it out.

Short list for me.....

Woods
Fowler
Barnes
Verplank (cause I like him)
Leonard (to play crafty veteran who never gives up)
Johnson

I wouldn't pick AK because as others have said, he hasn't gotten his form back yet. Fowler I think is still a bit to young, 2 more years will do him good. He's going to be a phenomenal talent once he puts every piece together.

Barnes started off the season well seemed like he was on top of the leaderboard every week but lately idk, haven't seen much of him on TV.

Callaway XR 9.5 + 1, Taylormade R15 3 Wood, Burner 3 Rescue, Callaway XHot 5H, Warbird 4H, Nike Vapor Fly 6-AW Irons, Titleist Vokey 54, 60 Wedges, Taylormade Rossa Fontana Putter, Srixon Z-Star Tour Yellow.

Best Score 2017:  82 (Traditions at the Glen, Par 70)

Favorite Course - Conklin Players Club (Par 72) - Best Score 86

Woods, Cink, Fowler and AK. To me the only wild card is Fowler. Woods, Cink and AK are veterans and will rise to the occassion. Fowler is the future, so they should get him some experience now. If not AK, I would go with Johnson for sure.

If Woods does well these next few weeks I'd have him on the team, but otherwise he's a risky pick right now given his inconsistency. It doesn't appear he's worked out his new swing with his driver yet either.

Throw AK in there. Enthusiasm is contagious. Holmes, I'm a fan so I think he'd be great, and he's played well this year, just no wins. Glover, nah, not played very well this year. Zach Johnson is money. Tiger, if he improves a little more and actually cares...still wouldn't be as entertaining as Fowler.

Corey will pick Tiger so that's one spot gone. It would be tough for AK to get in unless he makes the cut this week and stay in contention on the weekend. Zach Johnson is always a solid pick IMO.

Yeah, he only led the filed in driving accuracy at the Barclays with 78.6% in the fairway. What a hack.

Statistics can be deceptive. How many times did he hit driver? Bottom line, regardless of fairways hit, GIR, putts, etc.: how is he finishing? While we do hold him to a ridiculously high standard, it is one he set. I actually think he will get beat up a little if he makes the squad. And I'll love it.

    • How would you change the rule to make it more "fair", and still be consistently interpreted and enforced?  It may not be perfect, but as a referee I can watch a player and look at the ground surface and make a ruling.  How can it be changed to address different players and their individual height, weight, and shoe size?
    • A bit old.. but this rule is kind of unfair ...  Lets say that you have Emiliano Grillo and Darren Clark playing together on a PGA event and on one hole both hit the ball to the middle of the fairway only 1 inch apart. When they arrive to the ball Darren take his stand and water comes out from the ground and remains there so he procceds take a free drop on a dry area and hit his shot.  Afterwards Grillo takes his stance in the same spot as Clark, but because he is a lot ligther, no water araise from the ground. According to the rules he is not allowed a free drop from the same spot darren had a free drop seconds before. I would love to see this happenning live on TV. Can an argument be made by grillo? could and official use the "spirit of the rule" to let him have a free drop?
    • Day 84 (24 Jul 25) - Weekly nine hole round cancelled as the course was tied up with a ladies tournament.  No worries - set up with the 54deg wedge and worked on varied shots with green side focus in mine (those nGIR's).  Worked between high floaters and low spinners from varied lies replicating the types of lies I typically see on the courses around here.
    • I meant lb for lb - so yes I agree it's wheel weight. How would you go about explaining that to someone? Perhaps the rotational inertia being higher with heavier wheels and the rotational inertia of the wheel requiring more torque to make its angular acceleration increase at the same rate?
    • Day 7: Had a virtual putting lesson with @iacas. Spent some time afterwords working with the metronome.
