I love the Noodle+ Easy Distance. Just got two more dozen for my Birthday!!

I want to try those, right now I am using srixon ad333 balls that I got off lostgoflballs.com for like 5 bucks a dozen. They seem pretty nice for the price.

I have decided that I prefer the added roll I get with the Ionomer cover on the Bridgestone E6 because it is more predictable from all lies and ball positions and clubs.

+1 especially the bold part. Last year I insisted on playing a Prov-1 or other high spin ball because I hit vey few greens (some things never change) and the added spin "helped" me around the greens. The past 3 months I've been playing with a harder covered ball. My chipping is improved by getting the ball on the ground ASAP and running it to the hole. With the high spin ball I would usually attempt the high spin, hit, and check. AS a high handicap I don't make consistent contact with the ball, so my results on this shot would vary from perfect with the right amount of spin to rolling it off the back of the green. With my current "rock hard" ball (e6, Solo, noodle or whatever else I find) I know that I'm gonna get roll out and I play for it.

Sidenote......I have over 60 Prov-1 or Prov1x's that I could let go cheap. Most are one hit wonders that people like me hit one time and sliced into oblivion.
5 - 10 yards additional length makes little difference compared to 5 - 10 yards closer to the hole.

I disagree especially with the bold part. It takes far less skill for this high index player to judge the amount of rollout than it does to judge the amount of spin I will get.

I got an offer to try some balls from Australia, called Vision ....They are to be competively priced in the USA about $25/doz.

They sent me 18 balls, 4 different types....so far I have played three of them and posted reviews....they are designed for the average golfer that does not have a 110 mph swing speed. Some are UV Yellow or Artic White.....with large numbers for easy identification....you can definitly find your ball easier....they are all 3 piece balls with various covers and are very soft off the putter. The iron play is a terrific feel off the clubface with good distance and control.

I also received a hat, visor, magnetic ball marker, tees and a killer towel.

They may be coming to golf course near you in the not too distant future......

I have gone from using V1's and Pentas to using Srixon AD333 or Trispeeds.

If the greens are watered/rained on, it doesnt make any difference

Yesterday I played with the Gamer V2 ..... great ball at little cost, although it felt a bit "strange" telling the group I was playing with and the next group already at the first teebox, I was playing a Topflite ball......

Why would that feel strange? Whenever I play with someone announces they're playing an expensive ball, and I know they'd be very lucky to have that ball in play 3 holes from now, I laugh a little bit (on the inside).

Agreed. I have a coworker who insists on using a ProV1 even though he has a very hard time controlling slices and hooks on any given day. Needless to say, he goes through a dozen ProV1's every other round or so. At a friendly little tournament a while ago, he had brought 8 balls in his bag...at the turn, he had to buy another dozen because he lost all 8. I think he ended up shooting somewhere in the 110 range.

I guess playing expensive balls is the same reasons a lot of guys insist on using a 9* Driver with an x-stiff shaft only to slice it 160 yards into the woods. It makes them feel better that they aren't that good.

There are PLENTY of budget balls that give great all around performance for most golfers....

Or like buying blades at 20 handicap...

Or like buying 6 different wedges... Or like playing a blade putter because they look cool... clubs and balls, they're all just tools. The swing is what matters. The rest of the small details, you can worry about once you're good enough to actually find a noticable difference. Truth be told...most high handicappers won't notice the difference between a high spin ball and a low spin ball. No matter how "low-spin" a ball is, if they slice the shiz out of their ball, its going to slice. All this talk of "feel" and "spin control" etc...most people don't know what that even is becuase they're just not consistent enough. Point being...stop changing club from one club to another, and one ball to another. you aren't going to find the golden club or ball that suddenly shaves strokes.

A lot of silly stuff in this thread....

Here's the bottom line - you can make ANY ball roll out. If I hit a ProV with doctored-up wedge grooves...you can STILL make it run out. But, you can't make a ROCK check up the same way you can with *insert spinny ball name here*. Period. You just can't - at least not from outside a certain distance threshold that's different for everybody.

I like being able to hit a 75 yard shot and aim for a specific spot. Also, a bad miss into a green that sits down quickly is GENERALLY (obviously not always) going to end up better than a ball that's shooting all over the place.

The only 'rock' balls that feel decent, to me, are those 'soft' ones that if you mishit off the driver will baloon up in the air.

...

I play the TP Black LDP because I like the way it performs, I like the fact that they are moderately priced when brand new and that I can get really good deals on them online or from online lost ball retailers. My 'bag balls' are recycled/used ProV1s that I buy at Golf Galaxy for 30 bucks for 3 dozen. Of those 36 balls...usually 8-10 are complete sh*t that I use on the practice short game area or that I bang into the woods for a practice shot or they're 'last resort' balls. The ProV is a great ball. Bridgestone B330's, ProVs, Callaway I, Penta - all great balls, their prices just suck.

Or like buying blades at 20 handicap...

Or like buying brand name clothes because they look better...

Or like buying a new BMW because it's got more horse power Or like buying a PC with specs way above your needs... Get where I'm going with this? I'll give my advice if anyone ask me which ball I suggest they should consider playing, but I don't care if a 20 handicapper slice a V1 or Top Flite into the woods.

yeah, i think you and i are trying to make the same point. it doesn't matter what ball you play if you can't strike it well.

That, and that people can spend the money they way they want to. $45 on a dozen or $20, it doesn't make a huge difference on the results. If you are good enough, you can play good golf with any ball. If you slice it with a Pro V1, you will slice it with a Gamer.

We could probably all be playing golf with $100 irons, but I don't see anyone complaining that the guy posting above you in a thread is playing $500 irons and a $200 driver at handicap 25.

I think there's more to this than your considering. I'm not at a level where I can strike a ball well with my driver, but I can with my irons and wedges. I'd rather not use my driver and play a good ball than play cheap balls that don't play well off of any of my clubs. I opt to use the NXT Tour because they play well with my irons and especially my wedge shots which I do hit well.

If I thought a Pro V1 or Penta would play significantly better I would use them, but doesn't mean I'd look to drive them into the woods.

but you see...people tend to exagerate the performance difference between a cheapo ball and a tour ball. I've played super cheap balls as well as high spin tour balls. When properly striken, they don't react all that different. Sure the cheapo ball may not check as well or spin back, but I've rarely hit a cheapo ball and have it roll out or bounce all over the place. Its usually a hop here and slow roll to stop, nothing exagerated.

You say you'd rather not use a driver and play a good ball, but ask yourself if the good ball is actually giving you THAT much benefit as opposed to a cheapo ball. truth be told, at your handicap, its tough to imagine that you really ARE striking the ball well with your irons and wedges if you say you can't hit your driver. So more than likely, you aren't quite getting the added benefit of a premium ball as opposed to a cheapo ball. Point being - people tend to exagerate the benefit they get out of playing a premium ball at a high handicap. I guarantee, play with a cheapo ball and your handicap won't budge and your score will remain the same.

You're obviously a better and more experienced golfer than I am, so I'm not in a position to dispute your statement. It could be a placebo effect, but today, I was checking the ball up on the greens with my wedges, even got some roll back. It's possible I could do that with cheaper ball, but given what I'd read about ball construction and covers I'd probably not have tried. Next time I will.

    • Day 113: 4/18/24 Stack training progress check after finishing my 6th program, and 4th Full Speed Spectrum Training session, which is recommended for my next program.     Gained 1 mph with driver, 195 g, 95g. Maintained with 280 g , and gained 2 with 145 g. Lost 1 mph on both lead and trail arm. Felt like I lost distance in my last round…
    • Please forgive the sweaty shirt.  Just got off the treadmill and decided to do my Evolvr drill.
    • I'd agree that 4w seems like the right play here. I'm not a course designer or anything but that hole looks like it could be so much more fun if everyone played from those front 2 tee boxes that are right outside your shot cone and they cut down most of the trees down that left side of the fairway. That would give risk reward to long hitters who want to try and push it up to that left fairway, allow more players to reach that second fairway, and still allowing it to be perfectly playable for someone who only hits driver like 150yds off the tee.   Yeah it looks like 4iron aimed at that inside edge of the right bunker is the play there, especially if you don't expect a 20mph tailwind again. If it is down wind again, 5iron would be just fine too, it'd still get you inside 150yds for your approach.  Keep in mind tee marker locations too, you measured that one from the back so if those tee markers are moved all the way towards the front of that box then 5 iron is probably best just to be sure that right bunker is never in play.
    • Day 1: worked on my drill for my arms.
    • Hit my tee shot just into the penalty area and barely found it. Swung hard just in case I hit it. It was slightly downhill with a heavy tailwind. I don't actually hit my 9i 170 yards.
