So, this year I'm headed out to Korea in November and December for QSchool. Sounds fun right? No, its supposed to be 45*!! I'm a Southern California native and it doesn't get to 45* in the dead of winter, at night. Can any of you skiers or cold weather climate people recommend some underwear? I hear silk is the good stuff, but if you know otherwise let me know.

Thanks.

I'm sure everyone is going to say the same. Layers will be the best solution. Put on some thermals and a light fleece/wool sweater that won't inhibit your movement, then top it off with a windbreaker. This should get you through 45° weather easily. I snowboard up in Vermont and I don't think any of my stuff is made from silk. Good luck with Q School.

Take along those hand and foot warmers. You can get them in ski shops. Put foot warmers in your socks, and put hand warmers in your pant (or a jacket). They are great for keeping you warm.

wrx, yeah, layering will certainly happen. I'm more concerned about brands of underwear. I've got a set for upper and lower body that I bought last year at Sport Chalet, but they were just so-so in the warming department. I'm looking for brand recommendations. I should probably check Bass Pro Shops.

Bass Pro has god stuff. I try to avoid polyester though. Under Armour and other companies of course make polyester underwear and clothes made for cold weather, but they are basically a thicker version of their normal product and can limit movement.

Try to find some Merino Wool products. This is all I own and has all the properties/features you are looking for.

Being a South Florida native, I completely understand where you are coming from. Try the Under Armour products. My neighbor, who is an athlete, also works at Costco and has to do inventory at the freezer warehouse and swears by the ColdGear.

So I just ordered some stuff from REI. Their Heavyweight PolarTech pant underwear and a Mediumweight crew neck shirt.

Its been chilly, gloomy and drizzly here in LA the last few days. Today I spent some time on the range with my rain jacket and two layers underneath. I was actually getting hot.

Maybe it's because I'm from Winnipeg, but for 45ºF (7ºC), you don't really need any special type of clothing. Jeans, shirt, jacket, and you're good.

But if you really want warm clothes, get yourself some Merino wool clothing. Wearing layers are the best thing you can do to keep yourself warm because each layer creates a pocket of warm air between itself and the next layer.

I like UnderArmor Cold Gear products. They maximize mobility, but keep you warm.

On option I found by accident was to wear my rain pants over my other pants. They add an extra layer and are loose and non-constrictive so you hardly know they are there. Plus, if you get too warm, they are easy to take off. I like using them when it is really cold to start the day so you can take them off when the temperature gets more comfortable and you can get by on just the pants and underwear. Sometimes when playing in the cold, you bundle up more than you should and it can be hard to shed some layers in the middle of the round. Although it is always better to be a little warm than too cold.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

I live in FL, but note that it can get chilly in the winter......one option you may want to consider is the Nike removable sleeves. I just got some at Golfsmith last night, they provide an additional layer for your arms and can be easilt removed if it warms up, or added if it turns cool. Cost is $25 and they come in Red, Black or white.

GoBlue , yeah that's a pretty common practice around here. We get some serious wind my way and everyone loves their rain pants in those conditions. Really cuts the chill factor down. They are definitely coming with me.

So, I got my shipment of REI base layers. The heavyweight are badass! Thick and warming but still plenty of movement. I am ready to take on golf in 35* weather!
