Watching the golf channel now, on the fifth playoff hole in the web.com tour event. The announcers made me cringe talking about "overspin" from the rough in a way that made it clear they were referring to topspin. "That ball just hit the front fringe, which really took the overspin off the ball so it'll come up short of the pin"

Probably same guys that think a draw has topspin.

I was just really surprised because all the people who were announcing that event had apparently played golf professionally before. They had discussed earlier what the longest playoff they personally had played in was, and everyone had come up with some kind of answer. I can see why people may think a draw has topspin though, when you consider that they tend to roll out more than a fade or straight shot (though they can still stop and roll back). I wonder if they do this because a draw sometimes has a club face that is closed relative to the target (pointed to the left of it for a right hander) which can deloft the club to produce a lower trajectory that is more likely to roll out.

that kind of draw will never get to the target.  it will only start left of the target and hook farther left.

when most hacks hit a draw, i think they hit a pull draw, with an over the top swing and also managed to slam the clubface more shut than normal for their regular pull slice, resulting in a more solid hit that theyre used to that ends up in the left trees.

I think this is why draws roll out more for most.  Most amateurs tend to hit pull draws at a lower trajectory.

Correct, t he face pointing farther left reduces loft, which reduces spin loft, resulting in lower ball flight (less delivered loft) with less spin (lower spin loft).

Kind of like a Kenny Perry hard-drawing draw.

The Tiger part is great as well. They use one swing from the '97 Masters to illustrate that he has a bad swing now.

Erik pointed this out to me....Bobby Jones played on the PGA Tour?

I still don't understand the point of the video? Are they trying to sell something?

They had one dude gain 60 yards on his drives, but he looked like he had significant weight on his back foot? That doesn't sound comfortable.

I always like, Bobby Jones won the grand slam. Yea, he won all the amateur tournaments in a golfing season. Lets not mention it isn't really the same grand slam today.

I also love the Wins graphs they have. Like the 5 stage launch system creates a complete game. I mean come on!!! Also note how they never really mentioned tiger at all. I think Tiger was their exception to the rule, yet he won a lot!!

They also sell a lot of massage therapy for different sports. There whole thing is about repairing the micro scar tissue that builds up in between each individual fiber of the muscle over time. That is what those images were from with the random guy laying on the ground showing different ranges of motions.

No, you didn't. This is NOT A WASTE OF TIME! It is the FUNNIEST thing you will watch this year.

Yea, when you see blood on someone's hands you know its serious right!!!  Sad thing is, there will be people out there who take that seriously.

That would only be a two-run homer. He won the two big ams and the two big Opens. :)

This video, I think, has some big errors. Some of it is ok, but the majority of this will not help your game. One quote that I thought was interesting early was, "Most good players have the shaft leaning slightly forward at impact." Shouldn't that be ALL good players?! The second drill he wants you closing the clubface?

I think he was just playing it safe. As a golf instructor you sometimes have to be careful not to speak in absolutes because someone will come out of the woodwork and tell you you're wrong because they once played with a scratch golfer who didn't have any shaft lean.

BTW I don't think that video works for this thead.

Good point. Feel free to delete the video I posted, then. It's a popular video, just thought it was a bit off.

    • LIV moving to 72 holes is a subtle admission that 54 holes was nothing but a joke all along.
    • I was going to start a thread, but this seems like the place.  Yesterday I played my matchplay match at my local club.  My opponent is a notorious sandbagger by reputation.  The pro once pulled his tournament rounds from the past several years and said that it is impossible his tournament rounds are legit based on his handicap. here is what happened last night.  I am getting 4 shots from him.  His current handicap index is 15.3 i shot 45 on the front.   Was down 4 after nine, he had three birdies and shot even par. I was closed out on thirteen, we halved with a bogey.  That bogey put him one over par for his round.   He then took a triple on 14 and then left. As if that wasn’t bad enough, he lied about his score.   I wrote down on my scorecard what the score was.  He put higher values that didn’t affect the outcome of the match to pad his score and apparently make it not look as obvious.   He shot 36 on the front, but claimed 40.  The higher values for his score were in the online scoring app our club uses.  He did it this way: I won #7. He had a 2 foot putt for par that if he made would still lose the hole.   He picked up and said it didn’t matter since I won.  He took a 5 instead of a 4 after picking up a gimme. on #8 his approach shot on this par 4 was 8 inches.  I verbally conceded the putt but I had hit into a hazard.  I finished the hole with a 6.  Instead of birdie he put in for par. on #9, another par 4, his approach was to 18 inches.  I missed my par putt and then knowing how close I verbally conceded the putt.  I missed my bogey putt, he never conceded mine.  Instead of birdie he put down a bogey. He padded his score by 4 shots on the front.  And then did again on 10.  I rinsed one and made 6 on a par 4.  I putted out and he was fishing balls out of the lake so I drove off to the next tee.  He had 15 feet laying two but claimed a 5.     love to know the odds of a 15 handicap being even thru 12 holes on a round of golf.
