Close the troll thread already...

McIroy is overrated.. Seriously.. C'mon.. It's embarrassing

You're definitely being proven wrong right now....

We don't close threads for this reason.  It is actually a nice history of opinion.  Yes, the OP was underestimating McIlroy.

It may just be possible that Jack knows what it takes to win the odd major or two

Rory has already won 4, so maybe Rory knows what it takes to win a major or two as well?

The problem for Rory is everyone is comparing him to the GOAT. The guy has a ton of talent and a long career left. Its really not fair to make him the next Tiger. I doubt we will ever see a player as dominant as Tiger was in his prime. I hope Rory figures out how to just be himself on and off the course. I think he will win a lot more just probably not at the same clip as Tiger.

The good thing is he's actually making it quite clear through media interviews that he doesn't think he is the next tiger but shows he's just as classy and humble off the course as he is on the course. Great role model and if he's the new face of golf, the PGA Tour couldn't ask for a better person.

''He's just not that great. I think Rory will be the next Lee Westwood, albeit with a prettier swing. I know a lot of you think/wish/hope he'll be the second coming, but I'm not buying that product. He hasn't shown me that fire you need to be a multiple major winner. I say he finishes his career with 2, maybe 3 majors and 10-15 tournament wins.''

Wow. Just read that. That's hilarious, but ya know hindsight..20/20...lol.

If McIlroy retires now, in his mid 20s, he's pretty darn close to being right. ;-)

If Rory retires now is he a lock for the HOF? 3 majors meets the criteria and the fact that he got them all before turning 26 gives it a little extra oomph.

 Piling them up faster than I can count! I'm still so blown away by his Open win as his third major by 25 that I haven't even fully absorbed his 2nd PGA. That was a helluva two week* stretch.

*technically more than two weeks, but let's no ruin a perfectly good storyline. :-$

You and me both brother. I know the comparisons are constant and starting to get annoying but the last player I can remember that dominated in the same fashion was Tiger. Do I think he's the next tiger? No. But he's extremely entertaining to watch each week which is bringing more and more viewers to the game.

If he can keep his head right, he could be the next Tiger.  Rory's swing is appears much less violent than Tigers did so he may be able to sustain it longer without injury.  I also question if Rory has that killer instinct Tiger demonstrated in his prime, just seems like Rory is too nice a kid.

Big praise for Rory's driving from some of other pros.

Paul Casey sounded reverential in a recent New York Times article .

"When Rory is on, it's not a contest," Casey said. "Rory's swing is like a bullwhip. When he times it, it's the best you're going to see. I've never seen a golf ball hit like that."

Stuart Appleby 's instructor agreed.

"I don't think Tiger ever hit it as far and as straight as Rory," said Steve Bann. "Rory's path (with the driver) is inside and up, so his natural free releasing shot is a draw."

Ian Baker-Finch

"Rory doesn't have to go back to a stinger three-iron often," said Baker-Finch. "Even when Tiger was at his best and winning all the time, he went back to that stinger two-iron when he had to."

I would agree with most of that, but I also think that's why, when he's not swinging well, he falls so far out of contention in a way that Tiger didn't as often as Rory has (through this point in their careers)*.  Basically, Rory's success is heavily reliant on that driver because he does hit it so often.  Tiger had a bit of a higher floor because he would/could go back to the stinger.  Granted: it isn't a great time to talk about Rory's floor being lower when he took two majors this year, but I'm speaking in relative terms.

*I'll disclaim that I haven't reviewed all of the data to know if it flies in the face of this statement.

True enough but don't forget Tiger came off as a pretty nice kid when he first started out too. Smiled a lot, joked around.. looked innocent then got hit hard by the press and has kept his guard up since.

I am disgusted with myself for saying this, and I know Tigs will hate me for it too, but Rors is a stud.  absolute stud.  when hes on its scary.  the driver swing is dead sexxxy.

    • Day 12: Same as last couple days, but focus was on recentering aspect of flow. When I recenter earlier I make decent contact most swings but if I recenter late or not at all it’s a roll of the dice.
    • A couple of things.  Some of the clubs in your bag should be dropped immediately.  A 2-iron for example with what obviously seems to be a lower swing speed or possibly not great swing yet is a definite no-no.  To be hitting that 120-140 yards, which I assume includes run, is a sign that you are not getting the ball airborne at the correct angle to maximise distance.  The reason your 3 and 5 hybrid are going the same distance is that your launch angle is better with the 5.  Loft is your friend. Ideally I would suggest going to a golf or sporting store where you can hit golf balls on a simulator without being disturbed to understand your club carry distances and hopefully swing speed.  With that information we can definitely guide you better.
    • Let us be clear, unless you have proof of cheating, you just sound like a case of sour grapes.  In our club we have a guy who won club titles for many years.  Yes, he was a low single digit handicapper, but there have been quite a few others who played at his level.  Yet his mental strength and experience helped him win in many years when he shouldn't have.  Did he sandbag.  DEFINITELY NOT.  Did he just minimize his mistakes and pull out shots as and when needed.  Definitely.
    • Day 111 - Worked on my grip and higher hands in the backswing. Full swings with the PRGR.
    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
