I usually end up carting at other courses too as my regular partner has a heart condition and has to ride. It is expensive for him if I don't chip in and ride too. But I do try to get out and walk on a lot of holes when I can.

I thought if only one person rides, that person has to pay only his portion. That's the way it is here.

But like the most people around here, I don't like riding and I play worse when I ride.

What i would like to see is a course that is walking only and carts are only availible for handicaped people and obesity is not a handicap.

I would love to see that, but their is no way the course would be able to make money. Most people are too lazy to walk, or simply are too out of shape and will settle for another course.

Yea-They can't get through a round without skidding their cart down the hill on #13.

Well said. Its all fun and games slidding down a hill with a cart until the cart flips and kills every player inside, then its hilarious.

I hate the thought of following 4 guys shooting in the upper 50's while they are walking to every ball they are spraying around the course. And, of course, they could let me through, but what's the point, there would be 3 foursomes ahead of them taking forever...Give 'em carts - make them faster, and equip them with air-conditioning.

I would assume most courses allow walking only for members is because they want to keep the pace of play consistent....I can imagine a newbie out there walking taking 20mins to finish a hole.

I would assume that members are allowed to walk because, 1.) the course gets plenty of consistent revenue from them in other ways, and 2.) they have numbers on their side.

Who cares if a random foursome of greens fee players grumbles about being surprised with the news that they'll be forced to enjoy the course from a little asphalt trail. Courses are designed to be seen and experienced on foot while strolling down the fairway. Who cares if people on vacation vow to never return - they probably wouldn't return anyway.

Exactly! I personally like to walk myself but you know things are bad when you are a foursome walking and are on top of another foursome in front whom all are on carts. It's happened to me and my buddies numerous of times. Now Imagine if that foursome was walking? It would be a bloody 6 hr round. Put those people on carts is absolutey correct which is why an option for either or is the best solution.

Not on the courses I play. (yeah BS I agree) It is so much for a cart. If you share they split it up. Maybe to guard against one guy getting one and the other hopping on it the second hole? I don't know.

A group of 4 walkers catches up to, then waits on, a foursome in carts. That's my experience too. The slowest rounds I ever play seem to be in a power cart. Or maybe they just seem longer.

Requiring walking? Really? I have MS and cannot walk and carry the clubs for the 4+ miles. I can walk the four miles, but not if i'm carrying or dragging the clubs. Sometimes yes, but not routinely. So, your plan would have me barred from the course, because i simply couldn't walk it.
Doesn't seem right.

I heard once that "people that walk don't make a round slow, slow players do it". A newbie will be slow riding or walking: anybody who takes 8 strokes to reach the green will slow down the pace, so carts are useless (to speed up pace, at least).

I think most of the people who are encouraging requiring walking make exceptions for those that

cannot walk (as opposed to those who elect to not walk). One of the first courses I played had a carts policy limiting them to only the disabled and/or veterans.

Here's my exerience in a nutshell;

Player 1 (the cart driver for argument's sake) hits a line drive screamer into the right rough about 175 yard out. Player 2 (cart passenger) hits a "slight hook" into the left rough ~ 280 yards out. They stop the cart at the first ball. The driver gets out and chooses a club (eventually), procedes to yank his "rescue club" about 75 yards into the left rough. Still 30 yards short of the other guys drive, but hey, at least they're on the same side of the course now. They stop the cart (on the path) at the Player 1's ball, he choosed a club and hacks the ball in the general direction of the green, but the rough closed the face and he's shortsided just short of the left bunker. Player 1 races up toward Player 2's ball then mutters to himself and impatiently taps the steering wheel - he's gotta go find his ball. Player 2 is feeling rushed - and this is only the first hole - so he loses focus and lays the sod over the shot. The ball goes about 20 yards - just far enough to rethink the club and shot selection. Player 2 replace the club and gets back in the cart. They drive a few yards, P2 gets out, chooses a club, then peels the ball long and right, into or over a bunker. They take off in the cart, stopping at Player 1's ball, both players get out with their lob wedges and putters in hand. They both duff their shots, and one of them decides to go back the cart for a different iron to chip with (the other one says F it and carries on with the LW). A couple chips and a couple putts later then saunter back to the cart, carefully wipe off their clubs, replace the head covers, get back into the cart, write down the scores and write down all the other +/- bingo bango whatever BS and then drive off. On the # 2 tee box, the cart girl is waiting to take their drink orders. Repeat this process 17 more times and tell me that's faster than walking.

It's funny because it's true!

I ride most of the time because I usually play off hours, alone, on a basically empty course and can get more holes in that way. More practice > more exercise at this point.

Stretch.

    • A good option is to play the Par 3 courses. after playing an 18 -hole round. The Par 3 courses have 18 holes, we usually played only 9 holes after playing 36 holes on each of the trips we had. You may want to check out Grand National while you're in the middle of Alabama. I enjoyed Oxmoor Valley and Ross Bridge courses which are a short drive north.
    • In August, I am playing the World Am in Myrtle Beach. I do not know which courses yet, but should be a blast. Aside from that, those are the only golf trip plans, unless I play while on vacation in Destin in June.
    • Even on a perfect center hit I was receiving at most 1.48 smash factor. 10 days ago on the warming up for a round my Driver made a weird sound, I checked the bottom and it was cracked. Don't know for how long it was cracked but at least this time the crack was easy visible. Maybe it was already cracked before but with a more subtle crack?.. don't know. I'm waiting for TaylorMade to approve the warranty and send me a new head. I was using the Stealth Plus, I will take the opportunity and upgrade it to the Qi10 LS paying the difference.  On Sunday with my old Titleist 915 and softer balls I was reaching 1.5, even 1.51 on center hits. Test didn't went well. Only gained 2..3 miles, not worth pursuing. Figured out that with a ball and with a target, my path was way to in to out with this new idea, so in order to move the club in the correct path I needed to slow down to redirect the club on the downswing or aim more to the right, close the face a play a big hook.. not possible. I already play a big draw with Driver, more curvature is unplayable. Yesterday at home, with no ball messed around with a more neutral path, even swinging a little out to in. It felt a lot more in sync with the body. With a big in to out path it feels like my hands are working right, away from the body, when the body is working to rotate to the left. With the path to the left is was easier to apply force thru the hitting zone.  As always tested 10 swings with my current swing (A), and 10 with this little out to in path(B).  The difference was huge, like 12 miles faster with swing (B). I knew something wasn't right. The fact was that the PRGR was aligned more in line with the (B) path so it of course was giving higher speeds. I proceeded to align it with the (A) path and tested again 5 more swings each. Again (B) was faster but only by 5 miles. (Made a tiny experiment moving the PRGR to a more extreme in to out path and the swings register 25/30% slower for both swings, so it wasn't reading properly at that angle) Finally I moved the PRGR in the middle of both paths, and this time (B) won by 9 miles. Off course, this was without a ball and a target so.. I will be hitting the range tomorrow to see the real difference.

    • At Bent Tree, right? I'm surprised the greens were that slow. I played right around the corner at Northstar and their greens were normal speed. Slightly soft/receptive but not overly so and not slow or shaggy by any means.
