I'd say carry about 215. I am 5'7" 140 lbs and 16 years old, so I'm not that strong. It doesn't help my distance that I have a 13.5 degreee driver, either, lol. So, I think it's good for me. I can usually hit it 230-250 in the summer with some good roll on my best hits.

At the driving range of my place, they have limited range ball for hitting. The most powerful shots that I've ever seen without roll are about 225 yards. Rarely do I see anyone who can hit that far at my place.

I use to hit about 155-160 yards at most with my cheap club. Since I got myself a Taylormade Burner, I've improved a little bit. Now, I can hit like 15-20% of my shots without roll for like 190-200 yards

I think if you look at the results of the poll it's clear that they aren't.

Well, here in Colorado we have fairly wet fairways and some of my drives are getting plugged or are very close to my ball mark. I also take into account the differences in tees and wind. With that being said I agree that most probably are a bit shorter than they think.

Do you notice a difference in your carry distance in Colorado air vs. a course near sea level?

I've heard there's a difference between the moistness and that occurs difference in the air that would also affect the balls distance. I don't know how much it would affect, but surely not very much.

No I don't notice a difference. I think any difference is pretty minimal. I have played most of my golf at sea level and I use the same yardages for my irons in Colorado.

Most people are totally unrealistic about their carry and roll with the driver. I play with a lot of different people and I seldom see anyone hitting a ball over 240-250 net yardage. Low trajectory guys like myself carry the ball 215-220 and roll it out. The guys with higher ball flight always look like they've hit it a mile, but when we get out there, they may only be 5-10 yards past me. A good drive for me is around 240. A great drive 260.

i'm sure this will get me flamed, but you don't tend to see many top notch players on public courses.

As far as drive carry I hit a drive yesterday on a flat 385 yard par 4 to about 112 to the pin, pin was back. The drive had about 30 yards of roll. The kid who I was playing with almost hit my ball on the fly and got about 5 yards of roll.

We have a lot of scratch and better players at my club, and I've played with a couple people who play on mini tours. Some are bomb and gouge, some are steady down the middle. The young guys tend to be bomb and gouge guys and they can really blast a drive when they want to 320+. I've never seen anyone on a public course hit much more than 280.

just my .02

off the tee i hit about 225 yards but thats with a 3 wood. i cant seem to get my driver working but at the range i might be able to get 235 yards out of my driver but with a terrible slice.

My c*ck is 15"!

Thats basically I the impression I got reading this thread!
I know I'm prob gonna get flamed as I'm a newbie, but I had to post that.

Anyway why isn't there a thread about your average score? I've never seen a spot on the scorecard for drive length, only for number of shots taken.

lucky for you guys, most of you get a good amount of roll.

i have to rely on a 275 ish carry with about 10-15 yards of roll

You should take some lessons from the 14-20 handicappers here who "average" over 300.

Just to be fair - I don't have an average. My drives generally carry around 200 yard, but if I could straighten out the parabola, I'm sure it would add 50 yards! Mainly I whack my 3i around 180 or my 5i around 140 and stay on the fairway.

LOL!! Parabola! That's funny!

measure the arclength....that should put you around 270ish.

I asked my "mathy" 17 y.o. to describe a parabola. He said, "It is an arc" and added a hand gesture to clarify. I then asked how it might be used to describe my golf shots. He responded "Well, Dad, I only know how to do math on a 3-D level, but you do hit a flat parabola fairly regularly!"

So I take your 70 yards and add 20, then subtract 2 strokes, then add a 3 putt and realize that a round of 100 is a fine day for this old man!

I think I average 250-260 with roll but not sure on direction. I've laid the ball within 10 yards left of the pin on the course that said the tee box was 300+ yards but I don't know how accurate these public courses are.
