I had high hopes for this round, but they were quickly dashed when I got to the course and the temperture are about 38* and realized we weren't going to get any range time again. I don't know if it's mental or just my 45 year old body showing signs of wear and tear, but I need some warmup swings if I'm going to have any chance at playing well.

The first hole was it's typical no warm up nightmare. I knew it would be cold, so I dressed in layers, but it was the first time I'd swung with anything more than a short sleeve golf shirt on so I felt like my swing was restricted. First drive was a pure slice to the left woods. 2nd swing I topped it, and 4 more shots later I was on the green for a two putt. First hole, par 4, my score an 8.
The next 5 holes didn't get much better. By the 7th hole I decided to take off my windbreaker and deal with just being cold. It seemed to help my swing, but I was so far off my game it didn't help much. The back nine was a bit better, but overall was a bad round, only slightly better than my first round, so I wasn't really happy.

Only positives were I'm finally getting some decent distance with my 3W when I don't slice. I'm hitting my 3W close or further than the other guys drivers so I'm hoping once I figure out how to consistently hit my driver I'll average around 250+.

This game is humbling, and frustrating. I was a bit bummed at how bad I played especially since my range sessions were going so well. I guess I'm not a cold weather golfer.

Get better clothes. I was on The Golf Warehouse site last night and they had some Zero Restriction gore tex jackets on sale. That would be a great outer layer for wind/rain. Under that, get some performance fleece. The good stuff you might find at REI or a popular outdoor store. The kind of place treehuggers, hikers, and the lot would frequent. They know outerwear. Get polartech thermals (tops and bottoms) from Cabelas to use as a baselayer. Get the Wintersof gloves from Footjoy or perhaps the Zero Restriction wind gloves. Then put on a knit hat, you will find this in the treehugger stores. ha ha.. Get wind proof hat. This will keep you warm and not limit your mobility. Living in NW Alaska for two years I learned about cold weather clothes. Now working on Nantucket for 4 years, my education continues. Winter golf here sucks. It was blowing 40+ the other day. Balls blow off the tee in this range. You are putting and your ball rolls away. Bottom line, the more you pay, the more range of motion you have and the warmer/dryer you will be. Invest in some decent outerwear and keep at it. Golf is supposed to be hard. It is what keeps the rift raft out. Stay the course man.
