I played the back 9 at Augusta with a buddy really quick tonight because I'm having to do work stuff, but I'm glad I was able to get it in. I've been playing this game for years now, and Augusta, in my opinion, is unlike any other course I've ever played in that game. The place is beautifully recreated, IMO. I CANNOT wait until I get time to start my career, especially after reading quotes such as this one from Owen Good's review of the game at Kotaku:

Those of you that have gotten some PT in, what do you think?

Just got my wii version last night and haven't tried yet.  So can you play Augusta without going through the career thing?

Also, got mine at Wally World and it did have paper instructions but could not find how to go to Augusta other than the Augusta moments challenge thing.

Next year they'll have an extra year to play around with Kinect, and really get it right.

Awesome.  I'd love to play it this way, but as it stands, I won't have a place with enough room for a year or two.  Part of why I didn't get a Wii - nowhere to swing it.

If it's like previous versions of the game on various systems, you need to unlock the course during career mode.  I hope to have time to unlock it before the Masters, since I'll be going home and even my mother wants to play.

Putting sucked at first. I put a lot of my XP towards improving my putting and it seems to be helping. I haven't used focus once, yet, and I'm not even sure what it does or why I have it sometimes but not others. My golfer is now putting better. Master putting the aiming point in the right spots and you should be okay.

Though I played one pin where the hole was on a place you couldn't stop the ball. Bingo Bango Bongo against Paul Casey. He six putted. I five putted to win that hole by two.

Does this version still have the precision putting option?

got and played the Wii version last night.  Was a bit disappointed at the cartoon like graphics.  I've been playing online PC TW at EASports.com and the graphics on that are far better.  It was cool to play Augusta but again the graphics were underwhelming and so I wasn't as impressed as I hoped to be.

The biggest issue I have is the caddy recommendations. Occasionally he will suggest something that is a touch too risky, so I want to play a little farther away from the bunker or hazard, but you can't just tweak his recommendation. You have to totally make a new custom one shot. Putting was (and still is) hard at first, but now I've got my putting XP meter thing about half full, and it's getting easier and easier.

Has anyone downloaded and played The Predator? Freakin' impossible course. Target golf on every shot, even the drives.

And I can confirm iacas' early putting woes, though his late back-nine charge did give me a scare.

I took the back nine! :-) Early on I was considering missing every green because pitching close was easier than putting close. ;-)

I just had a heartbreaker round with my career.  I haven't had any problem whatsoever with the putting -- Are ya'll talking about PS3 move, or Wii?  I'm just thumbstickin' it on my non-move-enabled PS3.  I'm sitting at around 1.8 putts average, thanks to a couple late-round chokes, but overall have been shockingly competent, there. *heh*

So, my career started off with an Am Tour win at even par.  My first Nationwide Tour event was a win at 1 under par.  My second Nationwide involved a bit of a choke job on the 9th hole that I couldn't completely recover from -- Finished 3rd with a +1.  And then, it was on to Q-school.  I was feeling like The Cocky Guy after my early career accomplishments.

+7.  Freakin' +7.  Finished outside of the top 25, and it was back to the Nationwide for me.  Auuuuugh!  I felt like I was out of the running by about the twelth hole, and of course my confidence went downhill and I started spraying the ball all OVER the stupid course, yelling at my caddy, etc.

Solid game.

Wish i could play for real.I found it funny how Stevie isnt in  the game.and glad to see that Phil Mickelson is recognised in the masters moments in the carrer mode. I'll agree that the putting is tough, especially at first.  Like so many others, I've put most of my XP towards that and it seems to have helped.  Overall, I really like it though.

Like I said in an earlier post, I have a PS3 and I spent the extra $10 and picked up the collectors edition which has 5 additional courses, including Torrey Pines... when I just go to "Play Now" and try to choose Torrey Pines it says that I have to buy it from the PlayStation Store (I think it's like $3.99), so I'm just wondering if I'm missing something 'cause I thought that's why I spent $10 extra...

This was really bugging me right now, so I did a bit of research and have found that Torrey Pines, contrary to what has been said in some places that I've seen, is not one of the five additional courses.

The five additional courses in the CE are Harbour Town Golf Links, TPC Blue Monster at Doral, TPC Boston, Highlands (fantasy), and Predator (fantasy); not Wolf Creek, Torrey Pines, Banff Springs, and Emerald Dragon (Highlands was on this list, which was correct).

So there you go... just a heads up for anybody looking to buy the CE.

This is the one thing that has truly disappointed me about the game. I feel like my entire $60 went to Augusta National. In fact, I'd need to pay about another $70 to get all of the rest of the courses. They may end up getting about $20 more out of me just to get some of my favorite courses (Torrey, Doral, TPC Boston...).

Yeah, the entire reason I bought the CE was for Torrey, and then I find out it's not even on there... sucks... oh well, I'll probably buy the other courses bit by bit.

Has anybody figured out the "fast golf" option? On the PS3 Collectors Edition, it advertised that you can enable 'fast golf' which allows you to play rounds in half the time (im assuming quicker loading, less cut scenes, etc.).  Has anybody discovered how to use this?  Please share!!

I played through the first Am Tour event last night before bed, and everything started clicking for me. I ended up shooting a 58 at Atlanta Athletic Club, which then pushed me up to the Nationwide Tour. I dont know about you guys, but I'm not a fan of trying to hit various percentage shots, especially using the thumbstick method of swinging. When three-click was the dominant method, it wasnt a big deal, but now, I prefer to put a 100% (or near that) swing on everything. In order to do that, I did lots of choking down as well as changing trajectory a good bit in order to hit my number. Don't forget to take into account wind and elevation changes as well.Hope this will help some of you, I know it's working well for me.

i believe if you hit Triangle while the ball is in flight, it will take you right to the spot where the ball stops.

    • Cool here's my tweak, "If a player’s ball lies in the general area and there is interference from exposed tree roots or exposed rocks that are in the fairway or 1 club length from the fairway the tree roots and exposed rocks are treated as ground under repair. The player may take free relief under Rule 16.1b.[But relief is not allowed if the tree roots only interfere with the player’s stance.]
    • I would never do the extended warranty on the $50 slow cooker.  I also routinely reject the extended service plans on those toys we buy for the grand-kids.  I do consider them on higher cost items and will be more likely to get one if the product has a lot of "Electronic Tech" that is often the problem longer-term.  I also consider my intended length of ownership & usage.  If my thought is it would get replaced in 2-3 years then why bother but if I hope to use it for 10 years then more likely to get the extension. I did buy out a lease about a year ago.  Just prior to the lease end date the tablet locked up and would not function.  I got it repaired under the initial warranty and would not have bought it out if they had not been able to fix it since IMO once electronic issues start in a car they can be hard to track down & fix.  They did fix it but when I bought out the lease I paid up for the extended warranty the would cover electronic failures because my intent is to keep that car for another 8-10 years and I just do not trust the electronics to last.  Last week the touch screen went black and was unresponsive.  It reset on the 2nd time I restarted the car but that is exactly how the last malfunction started.  I fully expect to have a claim on that on repair under the extended warranty.  I do not recall the exact cost to fix last time since I did not pay it but I think it was @ $700-$800 and I suspect that will be higher next time.
    • Have you looked at Model Local Rule F-9 Relief from Tree Roots in or Close to Fairway?  You could extend this to cover exposed rocks.  The rule is recommended to be used only for areas relatively near the fairway, a player who hits a shot 20 yards in the woods doesn't really deserve relief.   Players can always take Unplayable Ball relief, they're not required to play it from a rock or a root.  Of course, they hate to take the penalty stroke too.
    • I agree with @klineka, you're clearly doing something right.  Its always going to be a bit of a guessing game if you don't have any scoring history.  On the other hand, understanding that it takes only 54 holes to establish an actual handicap, and they have about 6 weeks in which to play and post enough scores, I don't think its at all unreasonable to require them to have an official handicap before they become eligible for prizes.  I don't know how you structure the fees for the series of competitions, but if its possible they'll play with the group without being eligible for prizes, you could consider a way to let them do that without contributing to the prize pool.
