Time will tell if he learned much from it, hopefully he will.  It was good to see him smile and laugh after his final putt on 18.

Hope he bounces back, but after all, isn't this what we're talking about when we talk about the importance of "experience" to winning big golf tournaments?  Maybe this was an extreme case, but I think he'll be all right.  It helps that it's the Masters: everyone knows anything can happen.

In the bag:
FT-iQ 10° driver, FT 21° neutral 3H
T-Zoid Forged 15° 3W, MX-23 4-PW
Harmonized 52° GW, Tom Watson 56° SW, X-Forged Vintage 60° LW
White Hot XG #1 Putter, 33"

yup. very nice to see him on 18 like that. and yahoo had an article of him and charl in a private jet flying to another tourney. charl had his green jacket on and rory was posing with him smiling like he always does.

Dustin didn't lose the PGA in a playoff -- the rule infringement kept him out of the playoff.

Let's also add Nick Watney, who had his aardvark at last year's PGA final round, but was overshadowed by Dustin Johnson.   Watney became a top-10 machine this year and won a WGC.   His first 5 starts were T6-T9-T6-T5-W.  He also recovered quickly enough after the PGA letdown to post a T4 at East Lake (good for 12th FEC) and a top 10 at one of the Fall finishes.

I think Rory will be just fine.

Spoken like a true champion. He deserved the Masters, no one gave it to him, he took it.

HI there,

I play on the same tour Charl plays on in South Africa, I have been playing professional golf for 13 years, Take it from me, that the players in South Africa are raised to play exactly like Charl did last week and Louis did at the Open! Our tour here in South Africa is a very hard tour and there is just no place for weak or safe play! Our boys are raised with great touch and feel around and on the greens and Fultom Allem told me once " you get the balls for free don't you?" So i promise you there is no way Charl would hit anything else on that hole! Think about it Louis also did not have to hit driver on the last hole at the Open! That's how i won my tournaments and that is how many other South Africans will win Theirs!

Keep a Lookout for Jaco Van Zyl this week in Malaysia!!!

I stand by my prediction from before this season: he won't win anything until Q3, and I think the first major he wins is the British Open. When you're not only changing your full swing, but also your putting and chipping stroke, it's going to take some time. Brandon

I really thought his putting let him down on Sunday.  Otherwise,  he would probably finished -12 , tie for second place.

He needs to play 4 solid round of golf and get the winning feeling back.   We will see show his progress is going at the US Open.

Rory needs a putting coach. Watching him play in Malaysia and his short putting is atrocious again. It's odd, because his lag putting is not bad at all.

Definitely. 16 greens hit today (a typical round for him) and 32 putts. It appears to be a pretty minor thing with his putting too since his stroke seems smooth enough....a slight correction could get him shooting 2 shots a round lower. Then he would be winning every week

He managed to get up and down in the only 2 greens he missed too. Pretty good for a player that had such a shock to the system Sunday and had to travel for 30 hours across 12 time zones Monday and Tuesday only to find his clubs haven't got there with him

short putts could be tougher for him than long putts. like me for instance, I of course would love a 2 foot birdie putt. but, when I have a 20 foot birdie putt compared to a 8 foot birdie putt, I almost feel more relaxed on the 20 foot putt. I don't know why that is. just how I am with putting I guess.

Yeah, I really thought he was going to post -12 in the clubhouse, while everybody else was still stuck on -10. Who knows what would have happened at that point? Nevertheless, I look forward to the US Open. Welcome to the board, catwoman :) Brandon

Me too, and I think the outcome would have been different.  It can be psychologically harder to play catch-up... I guess we'll never know.

    • Makes sense.  Like I said, I wouldn't have been upset at their original offer either, and based on the fine print it seems like they've held up their end of the deal.
    • If you've only had to adjust retroactively one time in 8 years and have around 5 people each year without handicaps, that's like 40-50 people total so it sounds like you're doing a pretty good job. I think your questions give enough to go off of. This might be a good way to get new people to actually post a few scores during the 6 weeks leading into the first event. Something like "New members will be eligible for tournament money once they have at least 3 posted rounds in GHIN" or something like that. If they can get 3 rounds in prior to their first event, then they're eligible. If not, they'll soon become eligible after an event or two assuming they play a little bit outside of events.
    • This is a loooooong winded narrative so if you don't like long stories, move on. 😉 Our senior club typically gets about 25 new members each year. We lose about 25 members each year for various reasons (moved to FL/AZ, disabled, dead, too expensive). Of the new members, usually 20 have an active GHIN handicap. About 5 each year do not have a GHIN handicap. When they join our club, we give each member a state association membership that includes GHIN handicapping services. We play a series of handicapped tournaments over the summer. When we sign up a new member who does not have a GHIN handicap, we attempt to give them an estimated index until they have sufficient scores posted to have an actual GHIN index.  Our first event typically is around May 15 so, in theory, a new member has about 6 weeks to post a few scores. Posting season in the Mitten starts April 1. Inevitably, several of the unhandicapped individuals seem  to either not play until the first tournament or can't figure out how to enter scores (hey, they are seniors). That situation then leads to my contacting the new member and asking a series of questions: a. Did you ever have a GHIN handicap? If yes, which State and do you recall what it was? b. Do you have an alternate handicap through a non-GHIN handicap service or a league? c. What do you think your average score was last year (for 9 or 18) d. What was your best score last year? Where did you play and which tee was used? e. What do you consider a very good score for yourself? Based on their responses I attempt to give them an index that makes them competitive in the first couple events BUT does not allow them to win their flight in the first couple events. We don't want the new members to finish last and at the same time, we don't want someone with a "20" playing handicap to win the third flight with a net 57. In the event some new member did shoot a net 57, we also advise everyone that we can and will adjust handicaps retroactively when it is clear to us that a member's handicap does not accurately reflect their potential. We don't like to adjust things retroactively and in the 8 years I have chaired the Handicap Committee, we have only done it once. So here are the questions to the mob: Any ideas how to do this better? Any questions one might ask an unhandicapped individual to better estimate their index/handicap? Would it be reasonable to have a new player play once (or more?) without being eligible to place in the money?
