i couldn't agree more.  this is the first year i actually preferred watching the round online instead of tv.  the round was so much more in depth, more caddy/player interaction as well as player/player interaction.  very cool.

So what's the census, one under for Tiger after the first round a positive or negative thing? On one hand he missed a good amount of chances but on the other, he didn't blow up and he played some solid golf. I say positive. I mean overall his first round average is 72.something, so technically he's doing better than most times.

tiger changed his putter again. so who knows what will happen with his putting this weekend.

attention all.....did anyone else notice that a commentator got mixed up with Y.E. Yang and KJ Choi?? the guy kept saying Y.E. when it was obviously KJ. he did it twice in fact calling KJ by Y.E. and then there was some silence and then after the cameras went away, they resumed talking. maybe not a big deal, i don't know.

golf is a lot like life. the more you enjoy it, the better off you are. a3_biggrin.gif

Tiger has used this Nike method mallet for like the last 2-3 tournaments. I pretty much expect him to come to tournaments with it now,

Tiger has become predictable. He has one good round on Friday or Saturday, and pads it with a pedestrian showing in the other 54 holes. Thursday was an unspectacular round, and he'll surprise me if he can go lower than 71 more than once this week.

They did a really good job selecting pairings for more airtime. Between the pairings online (Mcilroy, Fowler, and Day) , Mickelson, Ogilvy, and Uihlein...And these mega bombers holding down the caboose with a good show all the way to the end. Looking forward to see how the course plays through the rest of the tournament, there are a lot of pretty difficult hole locations they can use.

does anyone else find the masters website kills your browser?  I am at a standard work station on IE6 (argh) and it kills it or I am at home on a good laptop with firefox and it still kills it... argh!

Edit: just found this thread about it... http://thesandtrap.com/forum/thread/45426/masters-website-script-errors#post_592447

What a gutsy call this morning - LOL.

In honour of another guy near the top of the leaderboard, Ricky Barnes, I've changed my avatar to one of his fellow players.

He was in it until the end last year, but IIRC he fell apart on the back nine.

AK just damn near whiffed one from the pine straw on 11. He drove it further into the straw and had to take an unplayable. Watching him is getting painful.

    • I was laid off two months ago. Good severance, a 90 day layoff announcement regulation the company wanted to avoid so technically I'm still on the payroll for a few weeks, and a bunch of banked PTO, so I'm in a great spot and working on a startup idea I've been batting around with my brother for a while. That means I've got time to get to the gym! I'm at like 60-75 minutes 5x a week of strength training, and either a run or a bunch of time playing soccer or tennis with my daughter on the weekends. Stronger than I've been in forever. Up ~5 pounds of (noticeable!) muscle!
    • Do you have examples of exceptional scores versus their established handicap indexes?
    • Day 539, April 23, 2024 Mirror work once again. When I get back to swings, I'll just do it A. LOT.
    • A bit of background. The Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) runs an annual event known as "Team Play." It is a wildly popular match play competition where Men's Clubs across the region put together teams of 20+ golfers together to compete against other clubs in a 16 vs. 16 match. In any given year, approximately 80-100 clubs will participate. Each club is grouped into "pods" of 4, and will play 6 total matches - one home and one away match against the other 3 clubs. The winning club from each pod advances to the Team Play Playoffs - a single elimination format - until a winner is crowned.  Antelope Valley Country Club just advanced to the championship match for the 3rd consecutive year. They won the championship in both 2022 and 2023.  Based on my review of the match history from the past 3 years (linked below), they have won 21 consecutive team matches. Keep in mind, these are handicapped matches, so this is not just a case where a group of sticks bands together to dominate the poor amateurs other SoCal clubs. Even if these guys are grinders who never quit, play their best under pressure and routinely putt the lights out, the law of averages still say that a streak of that nature is mathematically impossible.  Is there any plausible explanation beyond institutionalized sandbagging throughout the club?
