Bubba hit only 50% of his fairways today and only 67% of his greens in regulation.  If he has any hopes of making the cut, much less winning, he'll need to do better tomorrow.

So he's got a homemade swing, no coach, and decides the best prep for this event was no practice rounds. Smooth move. Perhaps Bubba should rethink his strategy.

Distance off the tee really isn't a factor here, meaning Bubba will need to dial it down, use his head, and play smart. The fact that it's been mentioned that Watson chose to forego a practice round this week tells me he wasn't properly prepared for the event. He'll need a good round tomorrow to make the cut.

Yep. Very nicely done by Stads Jr. He made the right choice for shot selection with that one. He was originally looking at going conventional on it but quickly figured out that wasn't his best option.  Well played shot by the young man.

Just the whole "idol and mentor dying, and not being able to make it back for the funeral" thing.

Oh. Yes. I don't know how I didn't associate the two in my mind. Sorry. Did anyone W/D to attend? I think a few years ago, Tom Lehman withdrew from a prestigious event to attend Nelson's funeral.

Well this is certainly shaping up to be a great tournament with lots of different and unique names in contention. We have David Toms, Graeme McDowell, Hunter Mahan, Steve Stricker are all at or near the top of the leaderboard right now. Paul Goydos is also playing very well and Rickie Fowler, though he's at or just outside the cut line has just birdied 6 of his last 7 holes. Lots of scoring out there today.

As a fan of my hometown's athletes, it pleases me that David Toms has gotten out to such a good start.  Hopefully he can keep it going so Shreveport can have 2 winners of the Players within its city limits.

That home made swing got him 341 yards on the 18th.    No coach - I like that ... to get as far as he has without a coach following him around like the rest of the prima donna's out there is commendable IMHO.      Now I have another reason to pull for him ...

Yep. Watson shot a 66 today. Not bad for a home made swing and no coach. Maybe he does know what he is doing??

So, having a coach makes you a prima donna now?  Got it.

Anyway, it sucks that Ogilvy and Clark had to fake injuries to withdraw.  People should make some threads about it.

What do you guys think about them constantly referring to this two day "grueling session" he went through with his swing coach a couple weeks ago that they are crediting for breaking out of his average play of late?  Can it truly be that simple...  2 days and you're right back at the top of your game?  How many hours do you think it took to qualify as "grueling"?

Kudos to NBC on the fewer commercials. I didn't notice as many promotions during the telecast as well. Was there a blimp reference? Hope it continues in the smaller events. Way better than CBS. It irked me when Nantz pulled out the Grammy and self congratulated his crew. Do it after the tournament. Do Just having fewer commercials alone makes the telecast way better than award winning broadcasts.
