I was flip-flopping the adjustable weights in my R11 and as I was tightening the 1gram weight, the threads snapped off in the head of the driver without the wrench making the clicking noise.

The instruction manual reads:

"Installing MWT Carridges

To install an MWT cartridge into an MWT cartridge port, inset the cartridge into the port and use the TaylorMade torque wrench to rotate the cartridge clockwise until the wrench emits an audible click, indicating that the cartridge is firmly in place. (MWT cartridges are designed to remain secure when tightened to a specific torque)."

I sent an inquiring via the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of TaylorMade's site and will be calling in the morning trying to figure out whether this will be covered under their warranty or not. Has anyone had any experience with TaylorMade's customer service? What are my chances of getting this replaced?

If this matters: The club was purchased from a local pro-shop at a local course. Been in use for 2 rounds (purchased 3 days ago).

this happened to me this evening.  the 1 gram weight broke.  the threads are still in the club and i have the rest of the weight.  I imagine I could drill out the threads.  did you have any luck with TM when you inquired?  I'm taking the club back to golf galaxy tomorrow to see what they say

yes, i did have success. i called TMaG the next day, and they told me to take the club back to the pro shop. the head pro gave them a call, gave them the serial number, ect. after that, the head pro told me to keep the driver until the new one came. i think it took 2 days for the new one to arrive (shaft and all, plus a new wrench). i didn't pay S&H;, either.

I actually had a weight strip out part of my weight port on my R11.  However, I bought the driver on ebay, I did register it on TaylorMade's website but I think I am SOL.   Anyone know if there are options?  I am gonna contact Taylor Made tomorrow about this.  I still can't believe it happened....

I wonder about all the adjustable technology in golf clubs and frankly am surpised there aren't more of these kind of problems. My son has the Titleist 910D / 910F and has to be very careful when adjusting the clubs so the threads don't get damaged. As long as the manufacturers support with good customer service and replace clubs that get damaged in this way.

In my Sun Mountain 14 Way Stand Bag:

Driver - Ping G30 10.5* : Fairway - Ping G30 18* : Hybrids - Titleist 915H 21* & 915 H 24* : Irons - Mizuno JPX 850 Forged 5 - GW : Wedges, Vokey 54.14, Vokey 58.12 : Putter - Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport 2 or Ping Craz-E-R  : Ball - Bridgestone B330RX, Cart - Cliqgear 3.5

    • Hit my tee shot just into the penalty area and barely found it. Swung hard just in case I hit it. It was slightly downhill with a heavy tailwind. I don't actually hit my 9i 170 yards.
    • Right. The difference between being 120 out and 70 out for me (this is the important part) is negligible and not worth putting other risks into play off the tee.   Ok the argument against driver is that my shot cone is comically large. It puts every possible outcome into play. You can't see the green from the tee so there's a good chance I'd have to wait for it to clear which would slow down play. That's the third tee right in the middle of the firing range there. I really don't want to wait just to hit a terrible shot and I especially don't want to injure somebody. Yea I have no problem playing out of the rough short of the bunker if I'm just going to lay up short of the bunker, but I absolutely need to avoid flaring it right into the penalty area if I'm going to be laying up in the first place. As a general strategy I understand where you're coming from. But since we're specifically talking about me (this is a shot I'm going to have to hit on Saturday), I think the cost is fairly marginal. I hit the ball 8' closer on average from 50-100 than I do from 100-150 from the fairway and rough and the green success % difference is 4%. Bunker might as well be a penalty drop. Based on the data,  Here's my SG:A data compared to a 10: I honestly don't know how to use SG for decision making. That's why I was mostly looking at proximity to hole and green success rate for comparison. I mostly use SG as a way to track my progress. All good. Like I said, I appreciate the discussion. It makes me think. If I didn't want to see alternative/opposing viewpoints to my own I just wouldn't post anything. You should post it! In your own swing thread, of course. It's been a fun exercise.
    • Played my first 2024 round at Pierce Lake. Boomed my first drive down #10 fairway, then slowly slipped into mediocrity. 83 (69.6/131). The high point was going 2 of 4 on sand saves. My sand game is pretty marginal but today I must have discovered the secret for a couple hours.
    • day 34. Technique practice. Became too quick and outcome oriented. need to slow down and work on technique again.
    • Day 534, April 18, 2024 Practice before lessons today. Priority piece. No sim this time. 🙂
