I hear ya.  Not a big fan of having any embroidery on the forehead area of the hat.  Rough, scratchy and decreases moisture wicking.  Especially true for guys with receding hairlines.  Checkout 4HeadWear.

That would be great if that style of hat fit my head, or looked good on me. Alas neither is true. I like the idea though!

I don't think wearing logo hats is a big deal, but if you don't want to support golf companies with your hat purchase, Life is Good makes some good hats that are comfortable - there are a few specific ones for golf that are pretty cool - and they have a good message as a company!

I hope I dont go too off topic here...

I wear logo's apparel sometimes.  I have a Calloway cart bag (I used Taylormade Irons/Driver)  I wear Nike shoes and a Titleist glove...  Beats wearing my Packers swag on the golf course.  I'd look goofy.

Now, on the other hand, I work for a promotional marketing company in Wisconsin (Im the IT Director)  I can get anything I want blank and at cost.  Cost for me is about 65% less than you see the items selling for in the store.  Not only are you paying for the middle man but you're paying to display that logo too.  Take a look at my avatar.  That's my ball.  My golf towel has my name & logo on it too.  Not to be cool or anything... The custom ball is great for when I shank one :)  Nobody else uses an Austin "Wiener Dog" golf ball.. I know its mine when I look under that pine tree.

Also, non branded or custom branded items add a sense of individualism (is that a word?) I think.

One of the Best Quality Hats that are out on the market... especially for bald guys... it is the most comfortable hat in golf... 4 headwear. Try it out not is it great for golf but also other sports as it removes moisture from your head as you sweat...

I dont wear any hats or shirts with golf logos, but all of my woods have headcovers with Nike Swooshes you could see from the space station, so I guess im guilty of it.

B of H, thank you for starting this thread.  Reading thru all of the comments is like getting a few thousand dollars worth of free market research for my hat company - 4HeadWear.  Titleist is by far the market leader for golf hats and yes they are "laughing their arses off" especially when they go to the bank with the profit they make from golf hats (I know their costs and what they charge).

4HeadWear is going after just a very small fraction of their market share.  We will make a few bucks and our customers will have a much better hat in terms of performance and comfort.  They just won't have a logo stitched into the front of the hat or a heat conducting metal button on top.  And for us bald guys eliminating those two things from a hat is a very good thing.

I am sorry lville lefty but in the immortal words of Al Czervik "Oh this is the worst looking hat I ever saw! Boy, you wear a hat like this I'll bet you get a free bowl of soup huh? Oh, it looks good on you though!"

And for the reason why golf companies do not throw in a hat when you buy their clubs, I have a theory:

They don't want people knowing we hit their clubs, their sales will go down. I mean have you ever looked down the line at the driving range and watched people hit balls. The golf companies know that 95% of us will immediately run down to the driving range with our brand new clubs and immediately shank 3 in a row, fat 2, blade 3, and proceed to slice the rest. The last thing they want is for us to act like a giant billboard while doing it LOL.

But that's just a theory.....

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

That is hilarious NM Golf.  A comment about style from someone who dresses like Al Czervik just may be the perfect endorsement.  I'll have to contact whoever is in charge of Rodney Dangerfield's image and use him in some ads. Thanks.

Possibly the daftest thread ive read in a while,.....do you wear a non branded glove,...non branded shoes,.......non branded shirts,...do you buy washing up liquid that isnt logo covered?

If nothing was ever branded and logo'd then we would never know what was what, where to get it from, or what looks like a good manufacturer v's a bad manufacturer, daytime TV would go from being 40% adverts to 90% adverts as companies strived to get their products "known",.....only for you to go and buy a white baseball cap thinking its titleist but lack of logo means you jsut bought some cheap ass china replica.

Everybody would look relatively the same, the world would be less colorful

would I give up all the goodness of logos and branding to be an "against the machine" type of person? not at all

If i was selling a product and knew I could get free advertising by stmaping my logo on it, am I gunna do it? hell yeah!!!

I think we should ban logos and writing on golf balls, let the chaos ensue.......

  • 4 weeks later...

I don't mind advertising as long as the price is right.  I found a seller on eBay (jrcflog) who sells new and nearly new hats and shirts and another (golfio) who has new hats up for bid.  I got a Taylor Made cap for $2.25 along with a Srixon hat for $3.50. WalMart had a Titleist cap at $7.00 on closeout.  I don't use Srixon or Taylor Made R9 clubs but if I can get a good quality product at a good price I'll do so.

Do you get a Brand A shirt with Brand C, D, and E logos on it? Do you non Acushnet logos embroidered onto your Foot Joy shoes?  Taylor Made and Titleist logos sewn onto your Mizuno glove?

Apples and oranges.

Well I wear mostly baseball hats on the golf course because I only wear flat brimmed hats (raised playing baseball) , never been a fan of curved bills.  However I still do have one Puma golf hat I wear because it is flat brimmed.  But most people wear golf hats when they play golf, and golf hats have logos on them.

Maybe it's just me but if i'm buying my own clubs/balls etc... then i'm not going to ***** myself out and wear some company logos.  In fact if anyone knows where I can get good quality hats that are blank and similar to the ones they sell with brand logos in pro-shops I might consider having a few made with stuff like 'not for sale' or 'read me' or 'corp golf hats suck' or something.  :)

This coming from a guy who has all the major companies endorsed in his own signature...

I got a free hat with my irons? What does that say about Miura? :-D I like your theory though. Not a lot of holes in that line of thought.

    • @boogielicious and I are definitely in for the Stay & Play and will need the extra night's stay on Friday. I don't know what the plans are for our group on Friday but even if we don't make it for dinner with the rest of the Friday arrivals, I'll be more than happy to meet up somewhere for a beer or something.
    • Taking your dispersion and distance in consideration I analyzed the 4 posible ways to play the hole, or at least the ones that were listed here. I took the brown grass on the left as fescue were you need to punch out sideways to the fairway and rigth of the car path to be fescue too.  Driver "going for the green"  You have to aim more rigth, to the bunker in order to center your shotzone in between the fescue.  Wood of 240 over the bunkers I already like this one more for you. More room to land between the fescue. Balls in the fescue 11% down from 30% with driver. Improve of score from 4.55 to 4.40. 4 iron 210 yards besides the bunkers.    Also a wide area and your shot zone is better than previous ones. This makes almost the fescue dissapear. You really need to hit a bad one (sometimes shit happens). Because of that and only having 120 yards in this is the best choice so far. Down to 4.32 from 4.40. Finally the 6 Iron 180 yards to avoid all trouble.    Wide area an narrow dispersion for almost been in the fairway all the time. Similar than the previous one but 25 yards farther for the hole to avoid been in the bunkers. Average remains the same, 4.33 to 4.32.  Conclusion is easy. Either your 4iron or 6 iron of the tee are equaly good for you. Glad that you made par!
    • Wish I could have spent 5 minutes in the middle of the morning round to hit some balls at the range. Just did much more of right side through with keeping the shoulders feeling level (not dipping), and I was flushing them. Lol. Maybe too much focus on hands stuff while playing.
