Pffft, whatever... he's so faking an injury.

/sarcasm

What's odd about this timing for me is that just this morning I was wondering how he could be healthy enough to play next week if he's not even healthy enough to practice yet.  So I'm not surprised.  Get ready for the British, man.

Maybe he'll get to spend some quality time with his kids for a change?!? That would be nice for them.

What's a joke?  He's injured, and can't play... I doubt he'd want to miss the Open, it will cost him OWGR points and sponsorship money.

Regardless of his off the course antics, I still respect Tiger and think he has brought great attention to the sport. Sad he won't be able to play, watching him try to pull off a comeback at the Master's was exciting!

From experience, a knee is never the same after it's been cut on.  Hopefully he can get back for the Open next month, b/c while I'm not a fan per se, I give talent its due.

Short-term injury perhaps, but if he'll tear it up again every now and then, he'll be in trouble. Play two tournaments, injuried for 4 months.

Too bad, but better to take the time to heal properly.  Hope it works, and I hope we still get a good US Open.

as someone who has had the same achilies injury I didn't expect him to play.  I was in a boot for 2 months and rehab once a week for almost another 2 months and it still gave me problems for a while.  Horrible injury.

Can anyone name a golfer who came back from knee surgery to be his former self? Not Ernie Els or Brad Faxon, to give recent examples. Throw in the Achilles tendon injury and it doesn't look like a bright future for Woods.

i'm pretty sure you cant rehab a knee properly with an achilies injury, that is probably a major problem right now.  that tendon is so vital to any type of movement (walking, rolling over in bed, etc...) that having it injured pretty much shuts you down from doing anything but watching tv.  The worst part is that it will feel fine but you'll still have to let it heel for a while after that.  If you get over-confident and take a right turn walking through your kitchen...BAM...you are back to hobbling around on crutches in a boot for a few weeks.  worst 4 months of my life.

I bet they are trying to immobolize the achilies and work the knee out a little here and there by hand but until he can use the foot then getting any type of real physical work done on the knee seems impossible to me.    Try to move your knee back and forth without moving your foot via the achilies for a second...doesn't work very well.

Bummer!

I knew in back of my mind that he probably wouldn't play at the U.S. Open, but I was hoping he would recover enough to play.

Hopefully, he will give it a plenty of rest to recover fully.  May be take the entire year off???

That bastard... Its so much more fun to watch golf when he is playing well! Oh well, I hope that he takes off enough time that he can really come back with a vengeance... but at this point it seems to be one thing after another.

If he can get his knee under control and learn to swing in a way that doesn't hurt it, there is no reason he can't still dominate through the rest of his 30s and into his 40s. If anyone can dominate a sport in their 40s, it certainly would be him.

Why?  I think it's good that Tiger won't be in the field.  I'm not bashing Tiger, but It'll be a "Different experience."
