Starts tonight. Can't wait to be able to watch some rugby.

I am having an early night so I can get up at 3:30am and see the opening ceremony/All Blacks vs Tonga

Can't make a call on who will win it all, ABs, Boks and Wallabies all have a good chance and England are no write off

Wish I was back home in NZ for this....ah well.

Go Boks! Although I don't have much genuine hope this time around. Too many older guys past their prime and a weak coach. Got to think the All Blacks, at home, are the favorites. But the weight of expectations can also be a curse ...

Absolutely. Every frikken year the media/public put so much weight on them to come up with the cup - got to think it gets to them no doubt. We have a few young guys in the team who may be able to deter it a bit better than others but who knows. Graham Henry and McCaw are probably feeling a fair bit of pressure.

I just hope the world cup isn't decided by a kicking contest. I want rucks and mauls and running style rugby to win, no 10 point games

Dont you wish that our American friends could watch some of the World Cup?

They might then look at the ridiculous padding their "football" players wear and change their minds about what it really takes to be a man.

Covering yourself with padding to make it look like you have huge shoulders ain't one of them.

Wallabies to win - but I'll be happy for my Kiwi friends to do OK, after the terrible events in Christchurch.

I know right? Same goes with ice hockey.

Canada vs. Tonga tomorrow.

Will be a good game I think

Canada are 14th in the world and Tonga are 12th. They;ve met 5 times, Canada winning 3, Tonga winning 2.

Also, unlucky for Wales to lose to the Boks, did that penalty kick go over? Who knows.

Japan and Argentina also earned respect in their games.

Did anyone see Rodrigo Roncero? Gets a huge gash in his head, blood all over his face/neck, comes back on with a glob of Vaseline on his head, gets knocked out cold 10 minutes later, gets some CPR, gets up and wobbles a bit, refuses any more help and runs back on to keep playing lol

Yeah. That was ... poor. My cousin here is married to a former captain of the Welsh women's rugby team. You can imagine how well the BBQ went after the game!

Thought Australia showed the best, but it's still early days.

We were shocking in the first half against Italy, was only until about 10 minutes into the 2nd half we pulled our finger out. Seriously if NZ play half decently they'll smoke everyone.

Sometimes we have trouble playing half decent at World Cups

I think the tournament has been good so far, a lot of close matches and the underdogs playing pretty good

Boks looked much better against Fiji. But the Irish win likely means all three Southern Hemisphere sides will now come through the same side of the draw, which is a pity. Unless you're an England fan I guess.

I've always hated the way world cups are conducted. Often you don't see the best teams play each other till the very end as they have pools etc. But my money is well and truly on NZ.

    • Now everyone with the "I'm waiting for full FDA approval" excuse can put up or shut up, or move the goalposts again.
    • Day 4: Yesterday's post didn't go through, guess I didn't hit submit after typing it out  Started with full swing priority piece, but everything was out of sorts. Tomorrow I'll practice earlier in the day with enough light to set up LVP camera. Switched to hitting pitch shots with 7-iron until I was making solid contact and the ball was starting on target. Then did some COVID-19 day 6/7 drills with LW.
    • Not sure what height has to do with age but ok.  I only asked based on what he said he weighed and how far he hits his drives. That said, you're absolutely right, age is a factor in training but it's really dependent on what you're doing and your body.  I'm fortunate in that although I'm climbing in age more rapidly than I'd like to think about, training wise, I'm not at all in a position where I have to make substantive changes. I see many drives much further than your current average given your height and weight if you keep up with it.  I've gained a few pounds of muscle since I started playing golf a few years ago and have def seen my distances increase.
    • So, I'm reviving this thread b/c I wanted to keep a record of how my 2021 golf season is going.  First, working with @iacashas me so much more confident about my game than I ever have been.  The scores may not show it but after discussing it with Erik and some reflection, I realize at least yesterday that a lot of that has to do with not really focusing when I punch out and also that I don't practice the short game shots that I face in a round, not that I practice short game much at all.  Overall, feeling better about my putting and the swing changes I've made has me pumping my driver out there further more consistently.  I literally never worry about using that club.  Still have lots of work to do with my irons which I feel is also holding me back from putting up better scores, but I feel some range time will help me groove that more. This year I didn't play my first round until May and typically I get in 40 or so rounds with many more coming in the later months (ya know, when it gets cold because I'm smart like that).  My next round will be my 14th which will likely not come until next week.    My unofficial HC is 24.8 and this year I haven't shot under my target score which I calculate based on my unofficial HC and the course rating and slope rating.  I suppose this isn't too surprising as including all my rounds from last year, I've played 47 times and have only shot under my target score 3 times.  I've only shot under 100 twice this year so that's the first goal, get under 100 more consistently which should happen, if I ever learn to stop being a knucklehead out there.
    • Sure.  5'8 or 5'9, depending who you ask (I haven't measured by myself in over a decade, and I get one of those two answers every time someone else does).
