I'm headed to Miami this week and play a couple of rounds.

I'm trying to decide between playing at Crandon Park or at the Biltmore.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Never played Biltmore but I have played Crandon. Excellent track. Great views of downtown over Biscayne Bay. Tough course, they used to have a Senior Tour event there. You'll enjoy it.

Crandon was a tough course, especially because I was having a lot of trouble off the tee.  Also, I wasn't quite ready for the insane humidity and heat, coming from the Northeast.

I ended up also playing at the Miami Beach Golf Club.  Decent course, but a little overpriced IMHO.

I also forget that with a lot of Florida golf, there aren't a lof of elevation changes, so there's a lot of water used to create difficulty which I'm not exactly crazy about.

I know, I know, but I literally got off the plane, picked up my rental car and went to the course.  No time to acclimate to the new climate.

And Florida in August, no thank you.

If I was going to Miami, I'd play Doral Blue Monster for no other reason than to cross it off the list.

The water is more of a function to get enough of the course above sea level for drainage as Miami averages @ 6 feet above sea level.  Dig a hole to move some dirt...voila, instant pond.

August is brutal, with the ocean breeze being the only relief.  That and paying cart fees only.

I've heard Crandon has crazy mosquitos in the summer time, too. Regardless, you deal with these things pretty much anywhere in So. Florida.

I too am a big fan of Miami Beach Golf Club. Great course, but yes agree it is very pricy.

If you are mobile at all, I would suggest hopping on I-95 and going up to Emerald Hills in Hollywood. Old school difficult test of golf with some really funky holes.

(sigh)....Again, it's Florida. The mosquito is the state bird. Your saving grace is a breeze & insect repellent.

And yes, it's flat here. We are a peninsula surrounded on three sides by water.

If someone is looking for hilly courses in a cool climate with few bugs, try Colorado.

My brother did a stint as an assistant pro at Emerald Hills. This is a tough track that they used for qualifying for some Tour events including Doral and The Honda as well as hosting the US Amateur and Pub Links there.

There are some courses near Clermont and Tally (Fred Couple designed SouthWood) that come to mind with some elevation but they are no where near Miami.  Flat with a lot of water is what you get in South Florida and bargain prices in the summer along with the heat.

BIltmore had the WORST customer service of any course I've ever played.  They have an attitude link they're doing you a favor.   Overall pretty boring course except a couple holes on the back 9.

Zipazoid. Dude, why the attitude? First off, I'm just sharing my knowledge. I've lived my entire life in South Florida so don't need a lecture.

A) Not all courses down here have bad mosquitos in the summer. Usually just ones that are out West. Crandon is an exception being East. So the advice is relevant. Bring bug spray and it should be fine. Don't bring bug spray and you'll be miserable.

B) I didn't say anything about hills, so not sure where you're going with that.

actually I think the Crandon bugs are love bugs not mosquitos....kinda like little nats...driving in the cart doesn't blow them off...they just stick with you and bite the crap out of any exposed skin.  but as amen corner says, some bug spray cures all.  we're cutting out early on Friday to play the Beach...they quoted $110 but they got attitude there also (if ya gotta ask the fee you shouldn't be here)  haha...anyway, maybe the Premier Card (which suxs now) will get a few bucks off.

    • But he won at -18 !!! Are you going to complain that it was too easy and boring to watch like you do for the PGA Tour?
    • He’s also the best anchoring putter there is!😏
    • And  he  has had alot  of  health issues as you expect  from someone still playing at  67
    • Good read (pun intended) as I have been using my feet more to feel the break and trusting these 65yr eyes less.  The only caveat to my case is that most rounds I wear a carbon graphite brace that runs the length of my left foot (replicates the toe "lift" sensation while walking by putting pressure on the rear of the left calf muscle and makes a great conversation piece to the guys I play with), and I tend to find the weight sensation somewhat muted on that foot when I wear it.  I do occasionally play without it and the left foot read gives a better transmission of info.  However not matter which way I'm playing that day (brace/no brace), pacing off the distance and coming back about 1/2 way and getting a foot read has really helped me determine the break, the startline and oveall pace.  Using my feet has definitely improved my confidence in terms of putting.
    • To still be winning tournaments at 67 is quite incredible. He must also be the youngest person to have shot his age or better by however many times he's done it. Amazing.
