The controversial New Zealand caddie had been asked on stage, during a dinner at the HSBC Champions in Shanghai, to explain his notorious gloating celebration after Adam Scott’s win at Akron in August. He replied, in reference to Woods : “My aim was to shove it right up that black --------.”

The remark by Williams left the audience of players, caddies and sponsors aghast. While the occasion had been intended as a light-hearted celebration of the ‘caddie of the year’ award, Williams’ comment was uniformly seen as beyond the pale and escalated his bitter sniping at Woods to a new level.

I wonder if the people who were so critical of Tiger for not firing Stevie for his past indiscretions will be equally critical of Adam Scott if he doesn't fire Stevie after this.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

Probably not.

Oh, and if I were Adam Scott, I might just say "I don't agree with or like what Stevie said, but he's his own guy and so long as his on-course performance isn't affected, and mine isn't affected, he's my caddie."

That guy needs to keep his mouth shut! He's a real moron who thinks he's some kind of celebrity.  Just carry the bag and pace the yardage, let the players do the talking.

he can say what he wants about tiger, i mean after all he carried tiger through most of his wins, tiger was nothing without him, he taught tiger everything he knows, tiger wouldnt have even been a professional golfer without him, i mean its not as if he's been the luckiest caddie of all time being on the bag of the best player of all time.......oh yeah wait, tiger was only good because of him, i forgot!

Williams may well be a racist idiot, the evidence looks fairly convincing.  It also looks like rather than being fired he probably told Woods to take a long walk off a short pier.  For as much media access as Tiger has, Williams has revealed a powerful motive to call it quits with Tiger.

Would it have been better to say "My aim was to shove it right up that cablanasian ---------"? What word was bleeped out?   Ass? Bastard? Motherf**ker? Gentleman?  Not a Williams fan, but racist?  Don't think so.

Pretty sure it was arsehole (not ass hole, arsehole).

You call someone black you're racist. A black man calls a caucasian 'white' and its ok. Society is way too PC these days. Sure williams is an idiot, but calling someone black doesn't mean you're a racist. After all Tiger Woods is dark skinned.

I have no idea what Adam Scott will do, but I would split with Williams. I wouldn't want someone bringing negative attention to my team.

So much for off the record! I can see what you're saying, why point out he's black, but as far as racism goes this is pretty mild. It also seems like it could be taken a little out of context, it was a roast like event.

That's Eric Cartman's go-to insult. He's not exactly someone you want to have anything in common with...unless it's hating hippies.

JK.

But seriously, I think this comes off as pretty bad. And if not bad, then awkward. Call me sensitive or whatever. I'd be pretty embarrassed if he was my caddy. I'm not sure what I would do. I'm interested to see the various reactions over this. If Al Sharpton says it's cool then I'm okay with it.

I know, why can't they just print the whole comment, whatever it was? Tasteless, yes definitely. Racist, I'm not sure.

Does Steve Williams drink? These seems like the actions of a drinker to me. But I doubt the guy has any sort of contract....so it's in his best interest to keep his racy comments to himself.

While I'm the first to agree the world is too PC these days the point Williams was making had nothing to do with Tigers skin color.  If he was referring to Scott I highly doubt he'd said "white _________".  The fact he felt the need to state black IMO shows a bit of hostility towards Tiger and slight racist tendencies.

You are suggesting that we are supposeed to expect Scott to fire Williams and we should be critical of him if he doesn't?

What planet are you from?

It sounds as if you are going to accuse people of being hypocrits if they don't get on Scott's case if he doesn't fire Williams.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Stevies comment was directed at Tiger and wasn't said while performing his job for Scott.  Scott has no reason to fire him unless he decides he doesn't want a loose cannon for a caddie, but that's unlikely since he knew what Stevie was before he hired him.

    • However, have you ever considered using small summer houses for such setups? They offer a great solution for creating dedicated practice areas, especially for an affluent audience looking to enhance their outdoor living space.
    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
