My friends think its hilarious how even tempered I am.

When things are going great, or going really badly my mood is the same.

It never used to be this way and my golf suffered.

If I hit a massive 800 yd to the right slice, I may utter something along the lines of "need to put a touch more draw spin on the next one".

I have hit eight Pro v1's into the same water hazard before without even so much as a swearword.

If you let golf get to you it will most certainly bite you in the arse.

Yes, this is a open carry state, and I do have a concealed carry permit. I always carry, and when golfing, I put the gun in my bag, as I don't want to leave it in the car unattended. Not a very responsible thing to do.

No, I don't carry in the shower. Takes too much time to disassemble and dry the gun afterwards.  ;)

Your buddy told him you were "carrying". So tell me something - what would you have actually done if you felt "threatened"? Carrying a gun on the golf course - give me a friggin break!!!

Nobody actually showed a gun and everybody went home safe.  We could start an arguement about gun control on here but it wouldn't get us anywhere.

Fair enough. Maybe next time somebody will go home in a body bag, then we can discuss it in the Grille Room.

I really enjoyed one of my old clubs (which will remain unnamed.)  It was a haven for gentlemen's golf and an example that inspired me to appreciate our sport even more.  There were strict rules.  Throwing a club, excessive use of alcohol, and foul language were not permitted.  If you did not like those or other rules, you did not have to be a member.  There was a long waiting list of people who wanted to be members. It was not a place that suited everyone, but I never heard anyone complain about its strick rules.  Rather, they were defended and appreciated.

I tend to do a pretty good job in controlling my temper, actually do not have much of a temper unless someone really pisses me off.

I have thrown a club down an empty fairway ONCE and felt like a complete jerk for doing it.  I have also never intentionally damaged a green.

Usually if I feel I need to "vent," I will intentionally hit a ball into the woods.  It is surprisingly therapeutic to hit the ball into the woods that has been the ball-in-play for a bad hole or round, even if the ball is never the reason for playing poorly.

I used to get really pissed at golf. Then one day after a horrible round (I had thrown my clubs multiple times, swore constantly, answered my playing partners with monosyllable and grunts all day etc...) I was walking back to my car thinking about when I would get my next chance to play! It suddenly hit me! Playing golf is what I WANT to be doing, even if I'm playing badly I still want to be doing it. So **** it, ENJOY yourself when you are out there, it may be a long time before your out there again.

It's an old adage about living life in general - live each day like it's your last because one day, and you won't necessarily know when, it will be.

And for Christ sakes, leave your gun a home.

But carrying a gun on a golf course is responsible?

This is where some of the worst stereotypes come from. How paranoid and moronic would you have to be?

Unbelievable.

The scary thing is that this guy might not be joking.

What sort of a loser carries a gun anywhere, let alone on a golf course?

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

I have snapped a 60 degree wedge over my leg (I developed the shanks one day and had my fill), but that is the extent of my anger.  I try hard not to act like an ass in front of my group, but sometimes, a profanity flies, or a wedge gets slammed back into the bag, but nothing to damage the course or embarrass my playing partners.  I have only quit mid round once.  Usually I try to swing my way through it, but this day, it was just not working and I felt like my bad play was taking away from my partners experience.  So about the 15th hole, I said I had enough and spent the rest of the way in tending the flag stick and raking bunkers.  I have played with some hot heads that just drive me insane.  Sometimes, if I feel like I am about to blow over, I just walk around the green and smoke a cigarette.

Back to tantrums and on course behavior.......

If I pair-up with strangers, I try to be Mr. Cool and stay calm and pleasant at all times. Even if they are cursing and out of control, I refrain.  It doesn't matter how bad I am playing..... I can play bad and shoot in the 80's and my partners for the day wouldn't know it was a bad day. For all they know, I shot a nice 83 or whatever.....I always avoid sharing my HC unless I am pressed, so they never know I'm playing bad. for all they know...it was a good day.  If they say nice round....I smile and thank them regardless of how I feel inside.

I've never thrown clubs in anger and I'd like to think I've never had a tantrum.   If I'm playing with my regular group, I may yell and curse at the ball while it's in the air from time to time, but it's mostly funny stuff  between us.  I may curse at that dirty ***** ball and dare it to go into the water, but that's about it...LOL  Golf for me is about having fun, so I never really get too mad.  When I do swear, I like to think it's fun sarcastic swearing......LOL

    • Thanks for the feedback. @StuM, we are a "club without real estate" so no facilities or pro. We have a membership of around 185 players and we only play together as a group at our tournaments, which are held at public access courses. A group of us setup the tournaments, collect the money and dole out the prizes.
    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
    • I get trying to limit relief to the fairway, but how many roots do you typically find in the fairway? Our local rule allows for relief from roots & rocks anywhere on the course (that is in play). My home course has quite a few 100 year old oaks that separate the fairways. Lift and move the ball no closer to the hole. None of us want to damage clubs.
    • Hello, I've been playing a Teardrop td17 F.C. putter for many years and love it. It still putts and feels as good or  better than any of the new putters I've tried and it's in excellent condition except the face has dings in it ever since I bought it used that kind of bother me. I was just wondering if it's possible to have some really shallow horizontal grooves milled into the face on a "roll face" putter. I think I would rather spend some money on it instead of trying to get used to a new putter.  Thanks
