We had talked about scotch in the cigars thread, but it deserves it's own. Any recommendations or care to share with what you are drinking right now?

My preferences:

1. Dalmore Cigar Malt
2. Lismore
3. Macallan 18 - when afforded

I have had the Macallan 25 and a number other good ones as well. Glenmorangie, Dalwhinnie stand out in my mind too.

On hand right now, I have an unopened bottle (750 ml.) of Glenfiddich Special Reserve Single Malt Scotch Whisky Aged 12 Years, and unopened bottle (750 ml.) of Chivas Regal Premium Scotch Whisky Aged 12 Years and an almost empty bottle (750 ml.) of Oban Single Malt Scotch Whisky. The reason I have two unopened bottles is that I'm stocking up for a golf trip (four days of golf --126 holes) in less than three weeks.

I have had the Oban in the past but don't remember much about it. Any thoughts?

Ahh yes, I love scotch. For my money I'd get Glenlivet 12 year, Johnny Walker Black or Chivas Regal 12 year. Have an unopened bottle of Johnny Walker Gold at home just waiting for the right time. Got a chance to try Johnny Blue too... damn fine scotch. Best way I can describe the feeling would be hitting a forged blade in the sweet spot. Doesn't happen often but when it does...

I have to admit that I'm not exactly a connoisseur and many of the nuances of food and drink go over my head. So, I can't really tell you much more than, yeah, it's good.

Q,

I am of the frame of mind that it has to taste good and go well with cigars. Pretty simple. I have had scotch that was so peaty and salty tasting that I hated it. Could have been Talisker or Laphroig. Other than that, I just like it smooth!

I'm pretty boring. I stick with the Chivas Regal.

Chivas is pretty solid and Scotch is

never boring! Unless you drink it from the plastic bottles, at that's not boring it's just disgusting!

I thought that might be it. I can handle some smokey taste to my scotch but when it tastes like it has been distilled with sea water, I have to pass. I recall reading a review of it before and the tasters actually liked it.

I'm using Dewar 12 mostly, although I have a bottle of Schenley Reserve that I found in my parents' garage a year or so ago. The bottle, if full, was 4/5 quart... that may tell you how old the bottle is.

Well, I'm one of those guys who likes the Laphroaig. Another fav is Lagavulin. Down to less than a quarter bottle of 12yr Glenmorangie Port Finish now. Time to restock!

The great thing about drinking Chivas & Johnnie Walker is you don't even need to be a good speller but if you drink Laphroig, Lagavullin and Glenmorangie, you just flat gotta be able to spell!

Ahh geez, I was only off a couple letters! All fixed now. Thanks!

I've got a 1.75L bottle of Chivas Regal for everyday use and a 750ml bottle of Glenmorangie Port Wood Finish that is great for sipping neat after dinner.

Old thread...but, oh well.

Actually have never had scotch. I do enjoy a glass of brandy or cognac. Remy Martin VSOP...bout all I can afford!
