Woods still wearing what look to be sneakers. Just how healthy is that knee?

He's been wearing them for how long now, six months? Has he said how much his knee has healed recently?

I think they're permanent. He said he wanted to be 'closer to the ground'. His knee can;t be that bad. He's been playing a lot of golf and seems to be fine - this is just something to help prolong the inevitable.

While I think he does wear them to help with his knee I thought he mainly wore them to prevent any further injuries.

Maybe Tiger just likes wearing tennis shoe style golf shoes.

They were designed to relieve the strain on his Achilles Tendons.

Tiger said he wears those Nike running shoes and was comfortable during his rehabilitation. So he asked Nike to fit them with some spikes.

Aside from Tiger's shoes, a lot of other companies are going down the way of a "casual" looking golf shoe or one at least one that looks like it's made as a running shoe.

At this point the shoes, like the swing changes, are preventive.  His knee is healed, but he knows if he goes back to stressing it like he did before, it's just a matter of time before he cripples himself again.  That's why he can't go back to his old way of swinging the club, no matter how much we all want him to.

That's what he says. Who knows. He hyper-extends the left knee less these days but the shoes are probably just a matter of comfort. It's why I wear TRUE shoes everywhere I go. Nike FREE shoes are less structured and offer less in the way of actual "support" (arch, etc.) so they help to maintain the muscles in your feet and calves.

Yeah, really.  I think 40s is a better cutoff for most men, but I'm 36 and have been dealing with foot and knee problems for 2 years.  Most of my buds and peers are dealing with some joint problem or other that limits their enjoyment in various sports.

Of course, we all saw Tiger at the 08 US Open at Torrey, and his problems were a little more intense than most.  Not to mention he's had a scope and two surgeries?  That's a little excessive, but so was his clubhead speed in his 20s.

Eh, I still don't buy it necessarily. I tend not to accept anything on face value, though. You've got anecdotal evidence. Anecdotally, I know plenty of active men who are older than 40 who are fine, unless we're defining "some" pain as some really, incredibly low amount or something.

But whatever. Tiger hurt his knee as a kid, continued to injure it, etc. The largest indicator of future injury to an area of the body is previous injury to that area of the body.

I had some knee pain starting at 32 when some _____ !! tripped me while we were racing for a loose puck. Pulled my leg out sideways and down I went. It still feels a bit wonky sometimes but it wasn't enough for surgery and it's not ever painful to stop skating (or walking when I play golf). Might slow me down in my 50s though.

My brother had sore knees and went to a doctor a few times who was monitoring his joints. Every time there, the doctor would give him some lifestyle advice. Eventually my brother put the pieces together - "he's telling me I'm too fat and out of shape which is putting too much strain on my joints, and motocross and binge drinking every weekend probably isn't helping". ~ 20 years later he walks every day as part of his job and never complains about joint pain.

I wish I could roll back the clock to my 30's. No pain in comparison to now.(57)

I am with Erik on this one. It isn't being in your 30s that causing problems. It is more that in your 30s life things like kids and work pop up and you stop hitting the gym (and if you haven't been going it catches up with you) and getting enough exercise so your body starts breaking down. Not to mention you have been adding 2lbs a year since college you are now 20+lbs overweight.

And random things like Sean mention happened and people don't want to spend the 3 months doing physical therapy (no idea what Sean did or didn't do or what exactly his injury was) so eventually it becomes and issue. In your teens and 20s minor injuries just heal up and you move on. In your 30s+40s it takes 2x as long and that is only if you let it heal.

I'm 25 with ruined knees from 9 years of skateboarding.

I am the exception, as most people don't put their knees through the hell I did.

Generally msot 30 year olds have knees that are fine - unless damaged at an earlier age.
