AP2 712 Irons vs AP1 712 Irons，which one do you like best?

Both the AP2 712 Irons and AP1 712 Irons are good choice.But which one do you like best?

At first,we talk about the AP2 712 Irons.

The new titleist AP2 irons 712, which are designed for low handicappers,Titleist has significantly increased the club's moment of inertia (MOI) by re-positioning tungsten weight within the heads.The overall goal was to better apply the different materials used in the design.

The New Titleist 712 AP2 Irons are more forgiving and more disctance control.It gives the AP2 player more consistent ball speed over a larger area of the face.

Although I have not  taken the indistinction away completely, I will manage to find my way out., actually, I still believe the heard melodies are sweet, the unheard are sweeter! All in all, the weather get cool is a good beginning to help me think something over.

Then,we can have a look at the AP1 712 Irons.

Building upon the high technology design and resounding success of the original AP irons, Titleist AP1 712 Irons introduces the new high performance AP1 irons for avid golfers. The Titleist AP1 are multi-material, dual cavity irons that take the design mission of "Advanced Performance You Can Feel" to new heights.

I'm a fan of forged irons, I like the AP2 best.

What are the advantages of forged?

Feel and ball workability. With forged your get into softer materials, less MOI, so that means off center hits will end up shorter. But you get into non forged your looking at higher MOI's, and that means shots on the toe will go the same distance, but its harder to work the ball from left to right.

But today there is such a combination, it wasn't what it use to be.

Really player irons would be mizuno's MP68/69 and Titleist CB/MB

You look at the AP2's or MP 58/59's your looking at clubs that blend old cavity backs with the more traditional player irons. MP 58/59 get away with this by using two different materials, so they create a muscleback blade, but the density of the materials moves weighting to the edges creating a more forgiving club. But they still use there forged process so you get that great feel.

AP1's are solid, they got a great feel to them, as do AP2's. The Taylormade R11's are a great club, closer to game enhancement than player irons. The problem with R11's are they don't use the TP shafts from taylormade, so they are 0.370" irons, and you don't get the custom fitting like the other irons have.

I just got the AP2s. I was at Golfsmith, and I hit both the AP1s and AP2s. I thought the look of the AP1s were too fat and big. I like the thinner face of the AP2s.

My previous set was the original AP2s that came out in 2009. The new AP2s are more forgiving, I like what they've done to improve that aspect.

I tried both versions during a fitting over the weekend. I did much better with the AP2 and I am a crappy golfer. I don't really like game improvement irons.

I have the original AP-2's and I love them.  I have no plans to change.

I'm a high handicapper and from what I read wouldn't be able to hit the AP2's.  I tried them out and LOVED them.  They feel great, look great and sound awesome. It took a week or two to start striking them well and turned cold a couple weeks after I bought them, but I'm really looking forward to more time with them in the coming season.

I went from off-the-rack SGI's to fitted AP2's and the distance and ball flight is quite different.

Honestly, unless your playing Titleist CB's or MB's, anything that has any sort of cavity back can be played at any level. Its not like you wont be able to hit them. Some clubs are more workable, less forgiving, all that means is your going to loose more distance on off center hits, and your left and right misses will move more.

My only concern is, does a higher game improvement iron hamper improvement, meaning, does the lack of visual response on a miss hit make a person learn slower? I think it does. If your getting the basics down; weight forward, flat left wrist, steady head, hitting the sweet spot more often than not. Really big misses can be fixed, and i think a more responsive club helps out.

From minimal play with my AP's thus far, I have to agree.  The feedback is a "no BS" indication if you are hitting it pure or not.  Thin shots vibrate to your elbows.  Fat shots feel like you are stirring marshmallows.  Your first pure shot is crisp perfection.

With my SGI's, you had a pretty good idea from visual result what your shot was like, but the reward sometimes differed little from the penalty on a well struck versus poorly struck shot.

I've been trying to draw/fade and flight the ball to see what I'm capable of.  I'm not good enough to pull the shots on command, but the feedback is sure telling me more about how and why I missed.  Plus it REALLY makes you want to hit another pure shot and gets that awesome feedback.

Got that right.  This is how i feel with my AP-2 irons.  The feedback is real, you know at impact if you hit a good shot or not.

SGIs will be longer but not as straight on mishits.  a smaller less forgiving iron will be shorter but MORE on line with a mishit.

I found the same thing in limited practice, and its part of the reason that I'm considering switching to a less GI club. I got an MP-58 6-iron and find that compared to my TM Burners, mishits are shorter, but straighter.  Also, if I try to shape it, I find it easier to hit big curves with the Burners, but the smaller curve from the MP58 is more consistent and probably easier to play.  I don't even know how to try to hit a ball higher or low, so I don't have an opinion on that.

Shooting at a green, I figure its better to be short and in the fairway than off line.

I'm close to pulling the trigger on AP2's or something in the MP line.  I'm just trying to figure out how to either break it to, or hide it from, the wife.

i have the MP52s and the MP58s.  both very nice clubs and more forgiving than most think.  the AP2s are beautiful as well.
