Gentlemen:
WHAT IS THIS MYSTERIOUS "SLOT" PEOPLE REFER TO???

ANY TIPS ON HOW TO FEEL IF YOU'RE IN IT???

I've been playing golf for a long time and always enjoy trying to improve my swing and ball striking. Lots of "Playing Lessons from the Pros" on the Golf Channel and the occasional lesson have helped me get a nice swing that strikes a decent ball. HOWEVER, for years I've heard people refer to "the slot", as if its some obvious groove in the swing that you should feel. Well, I don't feel a slot per se, but I certainly do feel when I'm swinging smoothly and releasing properly.

Would love to hear your thoughts on the importance of "the slot"!

Here's my guess on what the slot means. If I'm wrong, please feel free to correct me.

When you start a proper back swing, you club shaft and hands are on the swing plane until the shaft is horizontal at about 9:00 o'clock. As you swing farther back and coil, the club lifts up off this plane. When starting the forward swing, I'm to understand that it's good to allow the connected shoulders, arms, cocked wrist, and club assembly to drop about six inches or so into the 'slot' or 'groove' before unwinding and rotating forward. This drop positions your club back on the original swing plane and allows a smooth and effortless swing through. And because you're on a single swing plane, your passive hands/grip should release easily and properly as well.

Here is what my thinking is regarding the feel. Because the club reverts back to the original single swing plane, there'll be no additional lateral forces exerted. Other than the muscular exertion generated from hip and shoulder turns, the swing should feel very smooth and effortless. When swinging through the slot, club acceleration and release are optimized, generating a powerful swing.

    • Day 364: About an hour and a half practice session. Spent most of it at the range. Did a solid 30 minutes of work on my priority piece, with filming. I think it's improving, but will probably check in on Evolvr to make sure. Then spent the last ~20 minutes putting, working mostly on short putts.

    • Day 79 (19 July 25) - Band rehearsal this morning - got home midafternoon, opted to work more with the magnetic alignment tool with the wedges.  Used it to work on face position at the bottom of the swing arc - followed up with easy pitches up to 50yds.  Seeing better face control and over improved accuracy toward target…session was cut short with pop up rain showers.
    • This is a great discussion. Other parts of the course where there are houses have white stakes and signs. This keeps people from trespassing and hitting shots on their property. There is another county road on the east side of the course that does not have white stakes like the hole I described. I checked the score card and there is nothing to indicate these roadways are OB. I think a county drainage ditch would be considered government right-of-way so it is the peoples land 🤣. But you are in the power industry and know more about those sorts of things than me.
