Just wanted you guys to know I appreciate this thread. Posture is something I have experimented with off and on. At some point I decided to try to duplicate Adam Scott's posture, all it did for me was limit movement and give me a sore back after 9 holes of play. So many places say it's the "right" way, but it sure didn't seem like it to me and it is nice to have some backing from people that know golf. Thanks again for saving my back and game.

Really appreciate the support, hope it helps your golf.

BTW Adam Scott's posture is much better the last couple years, I think he saw this thread ;-) (just kidding)

Good.

Seriously, a whole workout regiment so you can stand over the ball and look like a giant pole is sticking out your butt

thanks for pointing me this way mike!! i never realised i was doing the s posture, in the mirror it doesnt really look like i do but i have the same muscle feelings like described in the s posture so on further investigation and analysis i realised i do will be working to fix this asap i get the feeling now trying to go against the s posture of starting up straight, push the hips forward, slight knee flex, then bend from the waist down to address position, this naturally moves my hips back to a more nuetral position and it feels way looser and less tensed than before, cant wait to try hitting balls with this posture see if it helps :)

Greath thread. The thing with changing this is, i find i t really difficult to hit a ball at all now. Hope i will get used to this very soon, because my driver and iron play used to be my strongpoint. Now im all over the place haha.

I used to stick the but out while at the same time reaching with my club.(More of a squating position i guess.) Now i keep my hands/grip closer to my body and try to hunch more, but this causes me to hit into the ground alot. Am i right in thinking that i should now have a more horizontal swing path, or at least the clubs is more horizontal?

If i do hit good, its easier for me to hit a draw now btw.

Hands should still be away from the body, at least one hand width. If you can't fit a hand between the butt end of your club and your thighs, then you are probably too far back on your heels with the hands too close.

Yeah, i know. I have about a hand width between body and grip. Its just because im a pretty long guys, with long arms, this means that my hands are pretty close to the ground. Thats what i mean by getting the shaft more horizontal. Ill see if i can post a picture of so you guys can see what i mean.

Yeah post a pic. Make sure not to get the butt of the club too low. Here's an example of a tall guy, @james_hirshfield , who has pretty long arms. Pointing at about the middle of his zipper. Good range is belt buckle to middle of the zipper.

Hey Mvmac, thanks for that. Is it the same with driver btw? Because the reason i started looking at this, is i got a comment from someone on my swingvideo where he said i was reaching too much. Then i came upon this thread.

If i look at someone like Watson for example he seems to be reaching also.

Couple posture drills

- Place your heels 2-4 inches from a wall or stick

- Stand up straight, bend from the hips and add knee flex until.....

-  ....y our butt touches the wall.

- Then soften the upper back and lower the arms

Here's a feel/visual/drill for those that struggle with an upper back that is too upright. Balance a cup of water on top of your neck/cervical spine. If you can't do it, then your eyes are looking up too much and/or you're not "slouched" enough.

Basically the same with the driver, might be a little further away, I think Bubba also has long arms.
