Hi, new member here looking for info on simulators. My buddy is thinking about putting a simulator in his house and I'm helping him do some research as he's not very internet savvy. We've narrowed it down to the two units above and was hoping I could get some feedback from the members here who've used either/both units.

The units are almost equally priced so he just wants to get the best of the two.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Ed

Hi Ed,

There are many golf sim options on the market and they are not all created equally. I would strongly recommend that you and your friend thoroughly test any simulator before you buy. After all you wouldnt buy a car without a test drive. The key issue for most people is the accuracy of the shot data. Full Swing uses 20 year old photo diode arrays that capture a single data point for every array - in short, from 2 data points and an estimated starting position they calculate the rest. About Golf recently upgraded their radar based systems to camera based one that is based on the High Definition Golf technology. Their problem is they can't capture spin without their specially marked balls, so you must buy their golf balls. As well, AG's cameras are all behind the golfer which means they can't see clubface angle at impact (yet they still display a clubface angle number!)

High Definition Golf uses 4 high speed smart camera's that measure (not calculate) all critical shot data and displays in real time in true HD. We're also the only simulator that uses high resolution digital images combined with satellitte and geophysical data to produce golf courses that not only look real but play exactly like the real thing. Full Swing and AboutGolf use conventional video game graphics that look and play like, well, a video game.

But you dont have to take my word for it - I encourage to see for yourself. Send me an email or call me with your location and I'll find a demo facility near you where you can test us live.

Buddy of mine has a indoor golf place and has had the fullswing for years.  It's great and fun to play on but, not the most accurate thing out there since alot of variables have to be right to judge spin ect...  He just traded those in for a GC2 by foresight.  By far the most accurate one I have hit on and it is along the cheapest on the market.  Great thing about it is you don't need a huge box in your house.  You can get away with just a net and mat if you wanted.  It's super small too so you can throw it in your golf bag and take just the box to the range to give you launch, spin, and carry numbers.

I am contemplating opening a golf simulator center/resturant. To me, it's not completely about accuracy, It's about the experience. The software is the key. The best software I ahve seen so far is TruGolf E6 (used by Fullswing), and AboutGolf. If you want club measurment data. the Foresight with HMT might be the best right now. I still would like to hit on a couple more. before I make a decision. The other thing to consider is maintenence and support. I am torn between About Golf and TruGolf. I have played alot on both and I like the E6 Software better. Fullswing and About golf has online capability True Golf does not.

We have a TruGolf system downtown at our Metro indoor facility and it plays really well. The range feature is nice too (e6 software).

Thanks for the responses here.

Iacas, how is the accuracy of the trugolf system? This is to be used as a training tool rather than entertainment and we're looking for something that can replicate as realistically as possible.

Okay, here's the thing: if you're spending $15k-$20k on a training tool, get a TrackMan. Seriously. You add a little laptop and a TV and you've got the best system out there, really, for training.

The accuracy of the TruGolf (they write the e6 software that almost every other simulator uses) is pretty good (though I find that it under-represents curve a little).

The bar I have been going to has Dead Solid, the system is old and inaccurate at times. But, the idea that you are making contact on a ball and using several different clubs just like a round of real golf is a good thing. The pitcher of beer and side order of wings help the experience :)

heres a link to dead solid:

The system the bar  has is 15yrs old but still works, some times gets glitching but it has had a lot of use.

I wasn't terribly impressed by the 3Trak launch monitor they were using.

Have you guys tried the GC2 yet?  I was impressed by their software it seemed to be way more accurate than the fullswing and you can take it with you to the range.

Hey guys,

I played all winter at Lakeshore Links ( www.lakeshorelinks.com ) in Toronto and they have High Definition Golf systems. it's really amazing. The graphics are real - not computerized. Very accurate ball capture - not at all like the crap simulators you see in Golf Town. I used to play at a place called InnerGolf that had aboutgolf simulators but they went out of business last year. It was OK but didn't really get the fine details like my slight draw. The HD ones pick up everything.

AF.

When I think about some sims I think Uncanny Valley and I'm turned off. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncanny_valley

They probably won't, as the thread is > 2 years old at this point, but we prefer that things like this - which can benefit many people - not be done in private.

Thanks.

Welcome to TST. Lots to see here - have a look around @HarryBee .

I am curious about the flight scope with E-6 software. I have been looking at the truGolf simulator for the house but like the potential for the flight scope to be used at the range as well. My question is how well does the flight scope work as a simulator?

My only problem with golf is that I am usually standing too close to the ball............ after I hit it.
