What? Let's see here, you played Augusta not once, but two times?

You know it's a golf course, right? People do play there. I know a few who've been so lucky. I'd be surprised if there's only one on this forum who has played there.

I would like to think that I could break 100 there, but I might expect to have  a 5 putt or two. And I consider myself a good putter. But not on greens like that.

It wouldn't surprise me to be over 100.

And if Stenson can rack up an 8 like that on 18, I would see that happening at least twice. Probably more.

I would expect a few holes to be complete wipeouts.
If you read my post about Adam Scott's friend, I'd be a little naive to think I'd do any better.

And every interview I read where a pro addresses the issue, they'll say that breaking 100 on a U.S. Open course or at Augusta is no mean feat for a low marker.

For some reason you seem very angered because I doubt that someone here could reasonably expect to be within a few shots of a Garcia or a Mickelson on a day they shoot 2 over.

You seem to be mistaking me for someone making an outrageous claim.

Someone at my brother's club played there with RAY FLOYD.

Nothing I heard about his experience makes me think that I'd be in the 80s, let's put it that way.

Oh wait, something else just smacked me in the face. He plays to a 14-15 HC, but yet he comes to Augusta and shoots 2 under his handicap? More BS written all over it.

I would like to see the scorecard from VOX? You have it still right? Pics of you on the course? You must have those also.

I will eat my words and apologize if you prove these things.

It's too bad you have such a low opinion of your game that you think you would snap-hook two drives, and 5-putt two greens.  For a 2.3 cap(?!), your self-confidence seems lacking, if you project that you would shoot 20 shots over your handicap.

My OP still stands. 90 would be a cakewalk, dead set. If I went out there trying to break 80 I may shoot above 90. If 90 was my number, I would take risk out of play and go to some of the long par 4's in 3. You would get a few pars, probably on the par 5's. You can make big numbers going for birdies, if you are playing it safe 90 would not be difficult.

Why are most people so negative about there games? I'm alway hearing people make jokes about how little chance they have of doing this, or how bad they are at that. Like the guy on the tee that says, "I haven't hit this green in two years" or, "this hole always gets me"

My opinion is that most peoples golf games are restricted by fear and lack of confidence.

Even if your golf game isn't the best, surely constantly reminding yourself of it will have a negative effect.

You're not getting it.

Like everyone else here I have absolutely no idea what I would shoot there.
Why wouldn't I snap hook 3 or 4 drives? The occasion might overawe me. The 18th tee looks like  a terrifying shot.

I might three putt 8 greens. I might only have 1 three putt. I doubt it, though. You obviously don't know what the greens are like there in a dry season. You can three putt from 2 feet. I've seen it time and again on TV.

I might chunk a couple of chips. Maybe I wouldn't. I would certainly expect to have several shots that look like they should end up within a metre of the hole run off and be down a slope or 20 feet away. If you don't understand that, you are very new to the game.

I don't know.

It's mere speculation.

A person who thinks he'd be within half a dozen of Luke Donald today - and says it blithely with the mannered self confidence and understatement that he attempted - is having himself on.

Don't criticise me because I have a realistic view of what can happen to an amateur on a tough golf course.

I'll tell you what, though - and obviously I can't prove it:

Anyone who claims a DIY handicap on this site of between 10 and 15, I would wager $10,000 on them not breaking 50 for either 9 in tournament conditions. In a heartbeat.

The average player wouldn't be able to reach more than one or two of the par  4s in 2. And look at the shots they have when they miss their THIRD shot down a slope.

They are generally 450 or 460 yards long. 250 yard drive then a 200 yard shot. 10 is 495 and 11 is 505. Easy,eh? 14 and 17 are 440 yards long. They are the shortest apart from 3.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Why would somebody lie to a bunch of strangers on the internet about something like that?  What could he possibly have to gain?  We have no reason not to believe him.

Certainly under par, in fact, zero; if i were a woman because i would not be allowed on the course.  Ha.  Seriously, has any woman played August even as a guest.

I couldn't see myself breaking 105, let alone 100.

For an inconsistent ball striker like myself, one of the easiest ways to throw me off of my normal swing thoughts is elevation changes.  Once the ball gets above or below my feet, or I get an awkward stance, the shanks and fat shots can really pile up.

Also, I hate multi-level greens.  I could see myself missing so many greens even with wedges in hand due to the landing areas that are required to be hit to hold certain greens.

I've played some tournament courses from some way back tees. Oakland Hills. Oakmont. Bethpage Black. Etc. I have some idea what I'd shoot.
