My wife and I go to garage sales about one Saturday morning a month (usually I look for things to resell on ebay to support my golf habit). I saw these for $50, but I offered $35 and they took it. 3-PW Mizuno MP-14's. I was currently playing Ping i3's and had been wanting to try some forged blades. Took these to the driving range just a while ago and they hit great. They look like the kid who owned them was like "hey the pro's play these", then he played with them for one season before deciding he couldn't hit em.

mp14.jpg

So now I'm gonna sell my i3's and use the money to put some new decade grips on these MP-14's. So give me a rating/10... best $35 ever spent? lol

WOW, crazy good deal!

Edit* mind you, I probably couldn't hit those at all, but I'd still buy 'em at that price and wait till I can hit them

I called a golf course around here that I used a play a lot at, said they can grip em with the new decades for $9.99 a piece. $80 + tax + $35 = ~$130 for a half new set of irons.

You can get the same grips for $80 (or even less) on ebay, and and re-grip them yourself. Just look around, you might even find a set with tape, solvent and a vise wedge for that price.

Eh, at that price I'd rather let a pro do it. I looked on ebay, my choices are: Pay $80 to try it myself, or pay a couple bucks more to let someone who does it for a living do it.

Seriously, it does not take a pro to regrip a set of irons. If nothing else YouTube it for instructions and save yourself some money. I used to do with 2 sided tape and lighter fluid. Save yourself some $$. BTW, great get on the MP14's.

Man, you can completely support your golf and related expenses by finding things at garage sales to resell on ebay. Namebrand purses, boots, car parts, games, Pokemon cards (no kidding man, these things still sell), etc. Just look for things you know a little something about, use your phone to look up current values while you're browsing. Make offers if you need to. It's great fun to get up on a Saturday at 6, grab some coffee with your wife, and spend the morning together on a treasure hunt. Put $30 in 5's in your pocket and go.

I started a thread about all the sets I have bought since last year when I started playing again.  Some great sticks and some not so great.  Yesterday I took a set out with carbon fiber shafts, Founders Club Royales.  I paid 10 bucks nib for these plus shipping off the bay.  The most inexpensive clubs I have purchased.  They hit wonderfully.  I was surprised at how well they played actually.  I know I hit them at the range but don't think I played with them.  Very surprised they hit as solid as they do.

Anyways good deal on the MP's.  Forged are really nice.  When you sweet it there is nothing like it.  Nice man.  thanks

    • Thanks for the feedback. @StuM, we are a "club without real estate" so no facilities or pro. We have a membership of around 185 players and we only play together as a group at our tournaments, which are held at public access courses. A group of us setup the tournaments, collect the money and dole out the prizes.
    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
    • I get trying to limit relief to the fairway, but how many roots do you typically find in the fairway? Our local rule allows for relief from roots & rocks anywhere on the course (that is in play). My home course has quite a few 100 year old oaks that separate the fairways. Lift and move the ball no closer to the hole. None of us want to damage clubs.
    • Hello, I've been playing a Teardrop td17 F.C. putter for many years and love it. It still putts and feels as good or  better than any of the new putters I've tried and it's in excellent condition except the face has dings in it ever since I bought it used that kind of bother me. I was just wondering if it's possible to have some really shallow horizontal grooves milled into the face on a "roll face" putter. I think I would rather spend some money on it instead of trying to get used to a new putter.  Thanks
