So just post your opinion and then walk away.-It takes two people to get into an argument. If you just want to say something, do it.-Then ignore any bad and respond and cultivate the good. But maybe thats just me and Ive got a thicker skin than most-Like I care what some stranger on the Internet says. I get what I want out of here- A place to chat about golf with other golf fans. Variety is the spice of life-but when I have heartburn I just dont give it any mind.
I guess my point was why ask when you know what your going to get. Seems like a waste of time to me. Don't get me wrong I think that this could be a great place to post about goals and what you want to do with your game. But i don't see it like that. Rather I don't have the commitment to this site, or the time to invest myself into constantly defending my point of view to internet strangers. It might be your thing and I am not knocking you for it. I just don't enjoy it. Look at the operation scratch kid. I knew that was going to be a train wreck from the beginning. He has quit his own thread twice poor guy. I'm not saying this should be a site for hand holding. Just an observation of the current culture. Total opinion.
I think Kyles thread shows how GOOD people can be.-Dudes been given multiple chances, and seems like hes finally going to turn it around and realizes he cant just TRY something and think it will fix things.
Well almost everything depends on how you word things. Some people say things in a manner to start arguments. If you really want a thread about your swings and goals, you would not get a rash for it. But if you ask for tips and don't use them but keep complaining about not improving then there's frustration. This is a opinion forum though and if you go through life not saying anything because you don't want to hear another side.... But I also say you don't have to argue with ignorance either.
"The expert golfer has maximum time to make minimal compensations. The poorer player has minimal time to make maximum compensations." - And no, I'm not Mac. Please do not PM me about it. I just think he is a crazy MFer and we could all use a little more crazy sometimes.

This is an excellent point. Having just read through that thread from start to end it really has shown me what a fantastic forum this is. The way a lot of people gave him numerous chances and continued to give constructive comments is amazing. I know on many other boards not necessarily golf related, if a persons' first few posts don't fit the admins' agenda or people dont like it the thread is instantly closed and person banned. A shining example of an open, friendly and helpful forum.

Okay, so after 3 and a half years I decided to take the plunge. I got an avatar, updated my handicap. I even signed up with the state golf association so I can get an official handicap. This site has really helped me with my game over the last couple of years and I want to say thanks and I am going to try and participate more. Glad that's done :-D

I posted a while back in this thread but seeing the thread come back I thought I'd add to what I said... Just post, it's good fun to get involved in the discussion rather than just to be a bystander!

I think I stopped posting for a while when the season was over and it was winter. I may have kept up in the winter threads I think.. But its golf season now and I am in it this year for the long haul.

We must harness the crystiles.

I say post if you want, when you want. If you want to use the site to just read the discussions and learn some tips, then go for gold.

We must harness the crystiles.

Very true.

I would also like to add that the more you post, the more you will get to know other members.  This makes for better conversation.

True that.

Not only that, but in the words of Mark Crossfield, "Let's keep it social. The more we talk, the more we share, the easier this game will get for everybody!". This site is turning into a Wikipedia for golf in a way. The more stories and strategies and conversations we have, even the fun/funny ones, the more knowledge we share and build on.

OK...I'm in. I've been a lurker and seldom poster for a few years. For me its a combination of a few things. 1. I read this forum 99% of the time from a mobile device, and I just hate to type anything more than 3 sentences long from my phone. 2. Most of the threads I get into are already so replete with information, that by the time I get to the end my opinion is redundant. 3. I only play golf for 6 months a year...just dont enjoy it when the grass is brown, or, worse yet, spray painted green. Therefore, golf is less interesting to me in the winter and I have to ween myself off of my addiction, which means quitting TST cold turkey. Despite that, I think I may have a mild TST addiction. Although the "Kyle Anthony Soap opera" and "I just played golf with Graeme McDowell" threads may have bumped me from a caffeine level addiction to a full blown meth-head. But mostly reason 1.

Hit a ball with a stick...how hard can it be?

But mostly reason 1.

1)  I use the forum at night and weekends from my mobile.  I typically do not post as much then either.

2)  I usually stay out of giving technical advice in threads or at least use a disclaimer (ie..not an expert but,), but even in those threads I will post personal experiences or questions.

3)  On the contrary for me, TST helps me get through the winters.

    • @boogielicious and I are definitely in for the Stay & Play and will need the extra night's stay on Friday. I don't know what the plans are for our group on Friday but even if we don't make it for dinner with the rest of the Friday arrivals, I'll be more than happy to meet up somewhere for a beer or something.
    • Taking your dispersion and distance in consideration I analyzed the 4 posible ways to play the hole, or at least the ones that were listed here. I took the brown grass on the left as fescue were you need to punch out sideways to the fairway and rigth of the car path to be fescue too.  Driver "going for the green"  You have to aim more rigth, to the bunker in order to center your shotzone in between the fescue.  Wood of 240 over the bunkers I already like this one more for you. More room to land between the fescue. Balls in the fescue 11% down from 30% with driver. Improve of score from 4.55 to 4.40. 4 iron 210 yards besides the bunkers.    Also a wide area and your shot zone is better than previous ones. This makes almost the fescue dissapear. You really need to hit a bad one (sometimes shit happens). Because of that and only having 120 yards in this is the best choice so far. Down to 4.32 from 4.40. Finally the 6 Iron 180 yards to avoid all trouble.    Wide area an narrow dispersion for almost been in the fairway all the time. Similar than the previous one but 25 yards farther for the hole to avoid been in the bunkers. Average remains the same, 4.33 to 4.32.  Conclusion is easy. Either your 4iron or 6 iron of the tee are equaly good for you. Glad that you made par!
    • Wish I could have spent 5 minutes in the middle of the morning round to hit some balls at the range. Just did much more of right side through with keeping the shoulders feeling level (not dipping), and I was flushing them. Lol. Maybe too much focus on hands stuff while playing.
    • Last year I made an excel that can easily measure with my own SG data the average score for each club of the tee. Even the difference in score if you aim more left or right with the same club. I like it because it can be tweaked to account for different kind of rough, trees, hazards, greens etc.     As an example, On Par 5's that you have fescue on both sides were you can count them as a water hazard (penalty or punch out sideways), unless 3 wood or hybrid lands in a wider area between the fescue you should always hit driver. With a shorter club you are going to hit a couple less balls in the fescue than driver but you are not going to offset the fact that 100% of the shots are going to be played 30 or more yards longer. Here is a 560 par 5. Driver distance 280 yards total, 3 wood 250, hybrid 220. Distance between fescue is 30 yards (pretty tight). Dispersion for Driver is 62 yards. 56 for 3 wood and 49 for hybrid. Aiming of course at the middle of the fairway (20 yards wide) with driver you are going to hit 34% of balls on the fescue (17% left/17% right). 48% to the fairway and the rest to the rough.  The average score is going to be around 5.14. Looking at the result with 3 wood and hybrid you are going to hit less balls in the fescue but because of having longer 2nd shots you are going to score slightly worst. 5.17 and 5.25 respectively.    Things changes when the fescue is taller and you are probably going to loose the ball so changing the penalty of hitting there playing a 3 wood or hybrid gives a better score in the hole.  Off course 30 yards between penalty hazards is way to small. You normally have 60 or more, in that cases the score is going to be more close to 5 and been the Driver the weapon of choice.  The point is to see that no matter how tight the hole is, depending on the hole sometimes Driver is the play and sometimes 6 irons is the play. Is easy to see that on easy holes, but holes like this:  you need to crunch the numbers to find the best strategy.
