One thing, Snedeker has zero three-putts, zero bogeys, and zero bunkers hit into. I just wonder if he can keep this up. You don't see play like this that often as the British. If he does, than he absolutely deserves the title if he takes it.

Its not the water that has come out of the sky over the last day. Its the water table, how high the level the water is underground, basically its above the level of the bottom of the bunkers. Think of digging holes on a beach as a kid and watching them fill with water.

Also, Sneds isn't going to win, I have money on him at 150-1 = him promising something and then disappearing, sorry.

Wow.  So that means that the course won't be playing like a links at all during this Open huh?  You may win some money if Snedeker can continue playing like it's Harbour Town.

Yep, won't be hard and fast. Hosepipe came into effect mid-April - not stopped raining since.

I've got Sends each way and Tiger to win, so Adam Scot to win at a canter. I'm a broken man after Louis and the Masters - £5 at 90-1 each way - the playoff loss cost me £455 - its just fate now.

A bucket full of Guinness will sort you out.

I'll try though - Its rained a lot in the last 3 months - May and June were the wettest on record - the course won't recover. I'm only playing 14 holes tomorrow because 4 of our holes are flooded. Which means more time in the bar tomorrow!

I've accepted my fate when it comes to betting - I'll get a good run for my money - but the other player will win - I've bet on Snedeker and Woods - they're doomed.

Wednesday I thought about betting on the perfect dark horse. Jason Dufner.  Not really a dark horse.

Dufner could still take it, with a little help from the guys in front.

That would have been a great bet. He is playing some good golf.

No, not really. Ranked 7th in the world, with two wins, a solo 2nd, and a T4 in his last five starts. And the T4 was at the US Open. He's arguably the hottest player in the world right now, but he's not exactly the first player you think of when you're trying to convince someone that golfers are athletes.
Tiger and Stevie apparently shook hands at the Presidents Cup last year
Tiger had Stevie's career in his hands in Australia last year. After the way Steve carried on at the Bridgestone, Tiger had every right to make a big deal of the "black arsehole" comment Steve made in Shanghai just before the PC, and could have made him a pariah. Instead, he went out of his way to tell the press that he knows Steve is not a racist, and he had no hesitation in shaking hands with him at the PC, and the incident quickly died for lack of oxygen. I have been assured that Tiger has no class, by guys who still hold a grudge over Tiger's withdrawal from the 1996 Callaway Gardens tournament. And they honestly don't see the irony.

How many times did Tiger use driver these first two rounds? I'm at work, so I couldn't watch all of it, but it looked like a lot of irons off the tee. It's a good move I wot. He's been around the edges of the fairways with his driver recently, some big misses too. A few of those can really hurt you out here. Where can I find player stats from the tournament by the way?

I believe he used it once today, and only a handful (2-3?) of times yesterday.

And did anybody notice Dufner's shoes?  Boy those things were stylish!

I never saw the 2008 Masters.  Seeing Sneds shedding tears after a horrible finish was touching.  I'm pulling for him to at least stay in contention the whole way, but I want Tiger to win.  DJ and Westwood are out of it, so...yeah.  Go Tiger!

Doesn't all seem right with the golf world again?  Tiger lovers can watch him in the final couple groups in a major weekend.  Tiger haters can watch with interest and root for him to fail miserably.  And everybody else just hopes for some great golf!

No "apparently" about it. It was on TV for millions to see.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

    • Last year I made an excel that can easily measure with my own SG data the average score for each club of the tee. Even the difference in score if you aim more left or right with the same club. I like it because it can be tweaked to account for different kind of rough, trees, hazards, greens etc.     As an example, On Par 5's that you have fescue on both sides were you can count them as a water hazard (penalty or punch out sideways), unless 3 wood or hybrid lands in a wider area between the fescue you should always hit driver. With a shorter club you are going to hit a couple less balls in the fescue than driver but you are not going to offset the fact that 100% of the shots are going to be played 30 or more yards longer. Here is a 560 par 5. Driver distance 280 yards total, 3 wood 250, hybrid 220. Distance between fescue is 30 yards (pretty tight). Dispersion for Driver is 62 yards. 56 for 3 wood and 49 for hybrid. Aiming of course at the middle of the fairway (20 yards wide) with driver you are going to hit 34% of balls on the fescue (17% left/17% right). 48% to the fairway and the rest to the rough.  The average score is going to be around 5.14. Looking at the result with 3 wood and hybrid you are going to hit less balls in the fescue but because of having longer 2nd shots you are going to score slightly worst. 5.17 and 5.25 respectively.    Things changes when the fescue is taller and you are probably going to loose the ball so changing the penalty of hitting there playing a 3 wood or hybrid gives a better score in the hole.  Off course 30 yards between penalty hazards is way to small. You normally have 60 or more, in that cases the score is going to be more close to 5 and been the Driver the weapon of choice.  The point is to see that no matter how tight the hole is, depending on the hole sometimes Driver is the play and sometimes 6 irons is the play. Is easy to see that on easy holes, but holes like this:  you need to crunch the numbers to find the best strategy.
    • Very much so. I think the intimidation factor that a lot of people feel playing against someone who's actually very good is significant. I know that Winged Foot pride themselves on the strength of the club. I think they have something like 40-50 players who are plus something. Club championships there are pretty competitive. Can't imagine Oakmont isn't similar. The more I think about this, the more likely it seems that this club is legit. Winning also breeds confidence and I'm sure the other clubs when they play this one are expecting to lose - that can easily become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
    • Ah ok I misunderstood. But you did bring to light an oversight on my part.
    • I was agreeing with you/jumping off from there.
