Did you know ..... that golf has been played on the Moon? On the Apollo 14 mission Alan Shepard took a 6 iron and one handed

and in a space suit ...naturally.... hit a ball  about 300 yards approx.  True story.

Did you know...... when Neil Armstrong jumped down to the moons surface and said his .."that's one small step"line he also said after that ..."that's for you Mr Rosenbaum".Houston couldn't work it out and it was edited out . It all went back to when Neil was a young kid playing in his yard next to the neighbours window and he heard Mrs Rosenbaum yelling "ORAL SEX!!! ORAL SEX!!! you want oral sex!! you'll get oral sex when the kid next door walks on the moon!     True story??

Good story...but not true. Armstrong was an Engineer, and he likely wanted to get the 'giant leap' comment out of the way so he could go back to what he was trained to do - observe and explore.

But here's some true moon trivia -

First words of the second man on the moon, Buzz Aldrin: "Magnificent desolation."

First words of the third man on the moon, Pete Conrad: " Whoopee! Man, that may have been a small one for Neil , but that's a long one for me. " Conrad was only five foot six, and a wiseass. When asked what he thought during liftoff of Apollo 12 (which was struck by lightning a minute after liftoff), he said "All I could think about was, here I am sitting on top of $24 million worth of going to the moon, and the damn thing was built by low bid."

I read recently that Armostrong asserted that he said, or at least meant to say, "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind." Without the "a" (which is the way the broadcast sounded) it doesn't really make much sense, since "man" and "mankind" end up meaning the same thing. Not sure exactly what this thread is about (and it certainly doesn't fall under "Golf Talk") but there.

Armstrong misspoke the phrase. He meant to put the 'a' in there cuz you're right, it makes no sense without it.

Audio engineers recently found the missing "a" in Armstrong's quote. It was garbled by interference.

Pete Conrad rocks.  I was (and still am) a NASA nerd.  He was a character.

My wife, son and I met Al Worden at NASA in FL.  He is an even bigger character and very funny.
