You can google image search "mathematics" and pick one of the top search results. Congrats. All that proves is that you know how to use Google.

Some people don't like to be confronted with these type of questions. Some questions are scary. At this point it's pure obstinacy.

Facts are not what you say they are. They are not created by you. You can easily say something that is not factual, and by you saying it, it  doesn't now make it factual.

Opinions are not facts. You don't get to make up the facts to back up your opinion. Sorry, if you think you can make what ever facts you want then you are delusional.

Really?

C'mon… those are either freak occurrences or you just made things up. You hit EVERY green and took 42 putts? And then you hit 3 greens and got up and down 15 times?

I'm not saying those things can't happen, just that they'd be really rare… and they're NOT what generally happens.

Generally speaking, hitting the ball well is important. Getting your ball on the green with putts that you can two-putt or occasionally make is the "trick" to shooting lower scores.

Lol yeah, my only bogey free round and my only 43 putts round...par 71. hopefully the last one will never happen again.

I agree that hitting the green is key and hitting the driver well makes it even easier.

It's amazing how some people still think the short game will lower your score better than having a good long game - despite the evidences showing the opposite.

For me, I find that having a bad long game will result in double, triple or worse.  Having a bad short game will result in only bogey or double.

Here's the meat of most of the advice.  Improve your full swing game.  This will help you to:

1.  Keep your tee shots in play, not in the trees or desert or the bunkers or OB or lost.

2.  Get near or on the green in regulation

Beyond that, learn to chip and putt competently.  You don't need "great", you need decent.  The concept is simple, really.  Avoid penalties, avoid needing to go sideways, keep going closer to the hole.  Execution isn't always so simple.  Good luck

This is definitely where people are getting confused. If your short game is horrific, practice it a bit more than normal.

Short term quick gains come from short game practice. Long term and overall improvement come from full swing.

Heck myself, my short game is terrible right now and I'm practicing it but I can still go out and shoot under par because I'll hit the majority of the greens in regulation and don't need the short game to save anything. It's still more important to me to practice full swing though. Short game takes an hour to get better, tops.

No it is bad advice. It's like saying, "Oh, I have the ability to drive 100 mph on the freeway so everyone should."

You are in the small group of people who are the exception to common sense. That doesn't mean your opinion is actually good advice because of that.

There is nothing commonsensical about prioritising long game over short game if your aim is to be a better player. Its ass backwards.

Uh here...

I suppose ball striking matters more than putting and short game to a 10-20 handicap than does to a scratch player. I will admit that.

You already said it was more important.  If it's not important for you anymore, fine, that's a personal choice.  But for nearly everyone else, it's full swing they must work on.

The only thing separating me from scoring 95+ or 85 is my ball striking consistency.

I proved that in my last outing when I scored a 42 on the back 9, thanks to a series of great drives and 2nd shots... my short game was average (for me) that day. My drives weren't consistent in the front 9, and I scored a 48.

Everyone's different. but I've come around to the long game > short game concept (as long as your short game isn't pathetic)

Dude, you just won't give up.  Even the best players in the world from 10-20 yards only average getting up and down 67% of the time (190 players).  75% is the best from this distance on the tour.   And from the rough the best player on the tour gets up and down about 69% of the time and the average is about 57%.   None of us practice that often to be as good as these guys on a consistent basis.  And if you are,you must be the best short game guy ever.

It is just better to learn to hit the ball with the full swing to lower your score.  If it takes you 5 shots to get near a par 4 and then you're so good around the green that you get up and down for a 7.  It makes sense, to everyone but you, to get the ball closer to the green in fewer swings to improve your chances of lowering your score.  You still should practice the short game, but the full swing (long game) is far more important to lowering your score.   But then again you can knock an 8 or 9 iron inside of 20 feet all day from 150 yds, so you have that going for you as well.

    • Hi everybody!  I am new to the golf game. I have taken some lessons and got fitted for clubs a couple of months ago. I usually score between 110-120 for 18 holes.  I bought a Stealth driver last year and have been hitting consistently with it 210-230 yds on the simulator. But when I take it out on the course, every drive is a severe slice!  I played 18 holes yesterday at the club where I belong. I removed the driver from my bag and used the 5 iron to drive with. I hit straight 16 out of 18 drives, 180 - 200 yds. I used the 5i - putter for the rest of my game.  I ended the day with a 92. Question: Does it make sense for me to continue playing with irons only until I get further along in my game before I reintroduce the Driver and woods again? Or should I continue to struggle with the Driver and woods and shoot in the 100’s again? To me it’s a no brainer, but for those more advanced I am interested to get feedback.
    • Thank you, currently I only had the 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9 irons in the bag. I was never finding myself in a situation to use the 4 and 5 so I dropped those a while ago. The 60W is what I've been practicing with the most in the back yard, but that's only with short chipping. I don't think I've ever practiced hitting my wedges at 80% - 100% apart from yesterday. Maybe I should be doing that more. Generally I would be using a 9 iron if I was out about 75 yards or so. I am not really sure I understand your mention of the 60W and 3H. Aren't these going to be giving me completely different results? Unfortunately I am not able to adjust the loft on the hybrids I have. I looked into the Shot Scope H4 you suggested and this seems really neat and handy, however I am struggling to understand how it works. Am I correct in assuming it doesn't track the ball distance until you hit the ball a second time? Say I drive from the tee and walk up to my ball, tag the next club and hit the ball. Is it at this point when I tag my next club while standing next to my ball that is knows the distance? Thank you, I am going to give the local shop a call and check their prices and see what they can offer.
    • Do you know what their handicaps are? The handicap system isn't perfect and given the higher variance from higher handicaps, I think low handicap players would be expected to win maybe 60% of their matches? I'm not exactly sure what that number is and it will vary with the handicap difference, but if they're generally very low handicaps, then they might be at 60% likely to win a game. Given it's 16 vs 16, that's a lot of games to win. If it's 60%, then that's around an 80% chance that they'll win a given match. At 80% chance of winning, 21 wins in a row is about 1 in 108 times. Pretty unlikely, but not unheard of. It's pretty sensitive to what that individual win percentage is too. If it's 65%, then 21 wins is about 1 in 9. If it's 55%, then 21 wins is 1 in about 5,700. Clearly it's not as simple as this because that win likelihood is going to change match to match as they play lower handicap teams or higher handicap teams, but I don't think it's a "yes they're cheating" thing at all.
