The first cold day is a bit of a shock. Just walked 4 miles in my golf duds. Found out the summer weight Nike pants don't offer much warmth. Will definitely be busting out the cold weather golf gloves today.

Unfortunately, this is probably one of Northeast Ohio's last days in the 70s and I won't be able to golf. The weekend is calling for low 50's and rain... here we go....

I just got my new wedges delivered to my doorstep yesterday though, so be on the lookout for a player wearing shorts on Saturday or Sunday in British Open conditions! Nothing is going to stop me from breaking them in! Well, that is... as long as my wife says it's okay...

I sweat like a pig, so I always wear the least amount possible, which usually includes shorts. Dress codes are very casual around here, especially at my local muni course. The pro there was giving me a hard time the other day for wearing "hiking boots" on the course. He told me the only code the course had was to either wear golf shoes or tennis shoes. I happened to be wearing low cut, brown walking shoes, which had soft rubber soles and were "tennis shoes" in every other respect. I showed him the soles but since he called me on it he wouldn't back down.

I asked him if I could play buck naked so long as I had the right shoes on, and he said it was fine with him. I would never wear shoes that would tear up the greens, but this clown must have had a hair up his butt that day.

Yikes we had light snow this AM. But after one day in the cold I am acclimated. Today is a shorts day. Planning on 9 holes later, want to try out a few swing adjustments.

    • Do you have examples of exceptional scores versus their established handicap indexes?

    • A bit of background. The Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) runs an annual event known as "Team Play." It is a wildly popular match play competition where Men's Clubs across the region put together teams of 20+ golfers together to compete against other clubs in a 16 vs. 16 match. In any given year, approximately 80-100 clubs will participate. Each club is grouped into "pods" of 4, and will play 6 total matches - one home and one away match against the other 3 clubs. The winning club from each pod advances to the Team Play Playoffs - a single elimination format - until a winner is crowned.  Antelope Valley Country Club just advanced to the championship match for the 3rd consecutive year. They won the championship in both 2022 and 2023.  Based on my review of the match history from the past 3 years (linked below), they have won 21 consecutive team matches. Keep in mind, these are handicapped matches, so this is not just a case where a group of sticks bands together to dominate the poor amateurs other SoCal clubs. Even if these guys are grinders who never quit, play their best under pressure and routinely putt the lights out, the law of averages still say that a streak of that nature is mathematically impossible.  Is there any plausible explanation beyond institutionalized sandbagging throughout the club? • Day 3- Practiced putting for 20 minutes.
    • Interesting that Scottie is #10 on the all time money list and he's been on the PGAT for 4 years. Of course, purses are bigger now, but  neat to look at non-the-less.  The list of top 18 money winners in PGA Tour history has plenty of surprises This list is updated through the 2024 RBC Heritage. To add, Scottie won 4.5 million at the Players, Jack played 44 seasons and won a little of 5 million on course.
