Hi folks...I am attempting to replace my old wedges with new conforming wedges and would like some help. Several years ago I had TT Lite shafts put in TA3 AW and SW and have loved them. I would like to play with conforming wedges as I have already updated my irons....I am aware of the 2024 rules on conforming etc but I want to be conforming none the less....I am having a terrible time replacing these wedges as most companies do not make a sandwedge in a forged club and particularly not a cavity back like the TA3, Does anyone know of a wedge that conforms and is similar to the TA3? Thanks

Go Vokey. They are cast now but feel just like my forged Cleveland 900s. SM4 is a great wedge. Hard to go wrong with them. Btw I really disliked the new Cleveland 588.

Willie M likes Vokeys, but not the Cleveland 588 wedges. To each his own, I'm the other way around.

The Cle 588s and the new Callaway Forged both worked well at a spring demo day.

  • Cle 588 has a 54* lofted wedge with 8, 12, and 14 bounce options, and a 56* lofted wedge with 10, 14 and 16 bounce options. I tried 56.14 and 56.16, and found I could drop the wedge sharply onto ball without hanging up in the turf, and ball took off very high and spinny. (There's also a Raw Tour Grind version with 8* bounce and a dynamic, multi-level sole).
  • Callaway Forged has a 54* and 56* version with 11* bounce each on a C-grind sole. Despite lower rated bounce, the ball really jumped with this club too. PWs and GWs also had a smooth feel.

Also... If you would consider a non-forged wedge with a smooth feel, consider the Cle CG14 w/ Tour Zip Grooves. This is a second-wave version manufactured with conforming grooves that came out after the rules change. The TZ version has a black gelback insert rather than the gold insert in the originals. Insert really makes for a soft-feeling shot.

If you can find them - shops either have a couple or several dozen - they cost about $80 each now and are solid wedges. (I play the original CG14s)

Focus, connect and follow through!

I would recommend trying out the Tour-S Rustique Ping wedges. I have them and love the feel, it's made of a softer metal than usual. They also get nice spin, so long as you keep them clean. Whenever I let my grooves get dirty I'll have the problem of my ball staying in its mark on soft greens, which IMO affects the way your ball starts rolling even after you repair it.

I have narrowed search to adams wedges to replace the TA3 form forged GW and SW.....Now trying to decide on CB1, CB2, CB3 or the CMB. Do not want a large head and these are not readily available for me to view. I remember seeing these in a golf shop when they first came out and I remember thinking that I liked the look of the gap and Pwedge.  Can someone help me please on the sizes of each. Thinking the CB2 is the best choice but again do not want the size of the head to overshadow the ball. Can get good price on ebay on the CB2.

I would have said Vokeys too. A good match for TA3 irons, so probably a good replacement for TA3 wedges.

I missed that part. Can't say I've seen a forged cavity back wedge lately. Maybe an off brand or PING?

I love my new wedges (Ping Tour with the "gorge" grooves) ... but they are cast.  If you want forged, it appears as though you have to go with the Anser wedges.

I have both the ping tour wedge and the sm4, I am happy with both but I would have to say that I like the ping a little bit more. I am also currently looking at the mizzy MP T4 wedges, but if u want a cavity back forged wedge I think the new 588 RTX wedges have a cavity back version

    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
    • I would think that 3 in a row with the same players might get some behind the scenes examination from the SCGA if they were suspect.  Are there any clubs questioning the results?
    • What simple fact? A golf match is not a coin flip — there is a fact for you. I'm trying to help you, and you're throwing out what could easily be called sour grapes. Come with FACTS, not weak analogies. Then you've got nothing. Hopefully they've done a better job of making their case. 😛
    • It's pretty close. The odds of a 50/50 shot going your way 21 times are greater than 1 in a million!  I guess your point is, that simple fact is not enough to declare these guys dirty rotten sandbaggers. I disagree, but fair enough. I posted it here on the message board to get different perspectives, after all.  I probably won't be digging further into specific scores. I have no dog in this fight beyond a generalized contempt for sandbagging. With that said, it would not surprise if a lot of clubs shared my concern and were grousing about it to the SCGA.
    • I had an article on Cam Smith pop up along with this..... Current major eligibility list for all LIV Golf players Here's a look at which majors, if any, all LIV Golf players are eligible.
