I agree 100% with Zip here.  You are not dumb, so you are playing dumb for some odd reason.  (I'm guessing it's the disdain for Obama thing he mentioned)  The idea that anybody who's not crazy would give this any validity is ridiculous.  It's very birther-esque.  If I walk up to a strange woman at a bar and offer her $100 to prove [to my satisfaction] that her amazing breasts are natural, every sane, sober person in the bar would think I'm an idiot ... and several would want to punch me in the face.  Both correct responses. Also, in reference to the bold above, I think that is better applied to "your guy" not releasing his tax records.  That is actually a common practice for presidential candidates - as opposed to humoring a rich attention-***** - so what is your opinion on Mitt's reasons for refusing that request?

No one's offered Mitt $5 mil. Heck, I don't care either way. Just wondering why Obama doesn't take the money for charity..... Not quite the same as your babe in the bar straw man.

Not speaking for them, but for myself, if you want me to continue to show you respect, It'd be nice if you returned the favor.

I guess standard English is beyond you, or you just love to beat a dead horse to death ... again and again.

But hey, the extreme right has beat the 2008 election to death ... every day for four years, and then they wonder why they think the world is coming to an end - because it must - they are not in power. Of course, when they were in power, the world economy almost did come to an end... and there was a black, Muslim guy from Kenya who only got into Harvard because he was black, only was elected President of Law Review because he was black, and was elected to the Senate only because he was black, and then elected President because he was black ... and wow, he did something other than austerity, which doesn't work, but the right insists it does work, but somehow the black, Muslim guy from Kenya who is a socialist and Communist, somehow, he saved the capitalist system. Amazing how that worked.

And yes, the above is sarcasm, except for the saving us from austerity and using alternative means to help us have a better recovery than Western Europe, who is trying the failed austerity bit.

Night.

Gee, hyperbole much?

What if Trump offered him $5M to sleep with Michelle or watch him have sex with a sheep would you still expect the POTUS to do it for the sake of charity.  I don't like Obama but you have to know when to fight the fight and when to leave things alone.  This is one you should walk away from.

You've been given numerous reasons why, yet you're still wondering?

Can't speak for the others that gave it their shot, but I'm done trying to convince or entertain you.

And the longer this goes on the more I am sure it's the latter.

We need a sarcasm font!

Sad thing about it though...there is actually a bloc of people who view Obama the way you described. See, he was just laying low his first term. His true colors will come out when he's re-elected dontcha know....

You appreciate the reasoned responses from the left, but not the right. Got it. No, I appreciate reasoned responses. That is not what you've been giving. Furthermore, you have obviously not been listening because mr. Desmond and Dave from Arizona have stated numerous times that they are not Obama loving leftists.

Well, it's not too difficult to understand why the race is so close, and why people from all walks of life and varying ranges of political beliefs, might vote for Obama, even in a slow recovery. Romney is challenged - Mitt would not even know Mitt. How could he expect reasonable people to vote for a message that is not change, but the same policies that brought us the great recession, only worse. That's what Mitt is selling.

From Today's NY Times, a funny opinion piece.

_____

The triangle that flared at the climax, with Chris Christie scampering away from Mitt Romney in the wuthering storm to cling to Barack Obama, the New Jersey governor’s brown eyes looking up trustingly into the president’s brown eyes, added a frisson to a jaundiced, spendthrift race.

In novels and movies, it’s a powerful narrative: the problems of three little people, playing out against a charged backdrop. “Casablanca.” “Gone With the Wind.” “The Year of Living Dangerously.” “Broadcast News.” “L.A. Confidential.”

Christie was unrepentantly swept away by his new pal, the commander in chief, who also likes to wear a jacket with his name and title sewn onto the lapel.

“So, I do pinch myself every day,” Christie said at a news conference in Trenton on Wednesday. “You know, like when I got on Marine One, I’m pinching myself, believe me. Sandy and Bill Christie’s son on Marine One was not exactly what I thought was going to be happening with my life.”

A president who has taken a lot of abuse from Republicans — one refusing to take his urgent calls on the debt deal, one yelling “You lie!” during a State of the Union address, many libeling his religion, race and nationality, all plotting to upend his plans — was finally getting a little G.O.P. love.

It was a jarring sign to Republicans that, despite Romney’s humanlike performance in recent weeks, there is no deep tie, nor real respect, among many of those helping with his campaign, even men considered as running mates. Romney is idolized by his wife and sons, and in his close Mormon circle of friends, but beyond that, there is an intensity vacuum.

In the final days, with Christie cheating on him, Mitt was left with Jeb Bush, who offered the faint praise to CBS News that Romney had been slow to respond to the president’s attack but had finally “found his rhythm.”

Pity poor Jeb Bush, trying to drag another entitled, second-rate scion over the finish line in Florida while stifling his own dreams. He told a crowd that Obama’s “entire strategy is to blame others, starting with my brother, of course.” But his brother is to blame for creating the chaos that swallowed much of Obama’s first term. And for derailing Jeb’s career and blighting the family name. While Jeb was hawking Romney, W. was giving a speech at a confidential Cayman Islands investment conference. He should go check on Mitt’s cash still sunning itself in the Caribbean.

Even some of Romney’s own campaign advisers confess they don’t really know who he is. Is he the pragmatist who would curb Grover Norquist, John Bolton and Dan Senor, or the severe conservative who would let them run wild? It’s sad when you are hoping someone is an opportunist and a liar.

I should add, it's not only the inability to trust Mitt, or which Mitt that would have people voting for the President, but another reason is people do not want to reward this version of the Republican party - a party that not only frustrated the economic recovery, and whose intransigence resulted in the downgrading of our debt, but they are clearly an extremist Party who would take us back to the Bush years in foreign policy and greater deficits, and back to the 50's on social issues - they have only showed that they have no answers. But they do have complaining, moaning, and defaming  down to an art. That's not a reason to elect their candidate. They have not made a case for themselves.

I mean, if you're a middle class family, why elect the GOP? This is not about the left, right, or middle. It's about the fact we need revenue, we base our tax system on the ability to pay - fairness, and the people at or near the bottom to middle, need help. They don't get any assistance from the GOP. But those at the top? The GOP will assist them.

If Congressional Republicans get their way, expiring cuts in the estate tax for America’s wealthiest families will be extended in 2013. But under their cruel plan, enhancements to tax credits for low- and moderate-income working families, which are also set to expire at the end of the year, would end.

Extending the estate tax cut would benefit the estates of the wealthiest 0.3 percent of Americans who die in 2013 — about 7,000 people. Ending the tax credits would hurt some 13 million working families, including nearly 26 million children, many of whom live at or near the poverty line.

Republicans in the House have already approved legislation — and similar legislation has been introduced in the Senate — that would undo a compromise tax plan approved in 2010. Back then, Republicans demanded estate tax cuts in exchange for extending the bolstered earned-income tax credits and child tax credits for working families that had been part of the 2009 stimulus.

The winners would be the few and the wealthy: the Tax Policy Center has estimated that the estate tax breaks save wealthy heirs an average of $1.1 million per estate, compared with the 2009 estate tax law. The losers would be the many and the hard pressed: a married couple with three children and earnings at the estimated poverty line ($27,713) would lose $1,934 in tax credits in 2013, according to a study by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.

And then there is the war against women...

Romney has also endorsed a “ personhood ” initiative treating a fertilized egg as a legal person. That could lead to murder charges for an abortion, even to save the life of a mother.

In effect, Romney seems to have jumped on board a Republican bandwagon to tighten access to abortion across the board. States passed a record number of restrictions on abortion in the last two years. In four states, even a woman who is seeking an abortion after a rape may be legally required to undergo a transvaginal ultrasound.

If politicians want to reduce the number of abortions, they should promote family planning and comprehensive sex education. After all, about half of all pregnancies in the United States are unintended , according to the Guttmacher Institute, which conducts research on reproductive health.

Yet Romney seems determined to curb access to contraceptives. His campaign Web site says he would “eliminate Title X family planning funding,” a program created in large part by two Republicans, George H. W. Bush and Richard Nixon.

Romney has boasted that he would cut off all money for Planned Parenthood — even though federal assistance for the organization has nothing to do with abortions. It pays for such things as screenings to reduce breast cancer and cervical cancer.

Romney’s suspicion of contraception goes way back. As governor of Massachusetts, he vetoed a bill that would have given women who were raped access to emergency contraception.

Romney also wants to reinstate the “ global gag rule ,” which barred family planning money from going to aid organizations that even provided information about abortion.

In other Trumped Up, yet real News:

Investor, Dallas Mavericks owner and Shark Tank panel member Mark Cuban has offered to donate $1 million to Donald Trump 's favorite charity if he shaves his head . The offer comes in response to Trump's recent public offer to President Obama . In a thoroughly ridiculous announcement last week, Trump pledged to donate $5 million to a charity of President Obama's choice if the president released top-secret mystery documents, like Obama's school transcripts.

Mark Cuban Offers Trump $1 Million to Shave His Head

Trump then bashed President Obama in a new video this week for missing the arbitrary one-week deadline Trump gave him to respond to the $5 million offer. We join Donald Trump in his disbelief that the president didn't drop Hurricane Sandy relief coordination efforts, ditch tours of disaster-areas and bail on the final days of his re-election campaign so he could phone for a list of electives he took in high school and get personal references from his childhood babysitters. We're shocked. Absolutely shocked.
