Who’s your Rookie of the Year?

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – The nominees for 2012 PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year were released on Monday — Charlie Beljan, Jonas Blixt, Bud Cauley, John Huh and Ted Potter Jr.

Players were nominated by the PGA TOUR Player Directors and members of the Player Advisory Council (PAC). The awards are determined by a member vote, with PGA TOUR members who played in at least 15 official money events in 2012 eligible to vote. The balloting process ends on Nov. 30, with the winner to be announced in early December.

A quick look at each Rookie of the Year nominee:

CHARLIE BELJAN: Won one event (Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic), posted three-top-10 finishes, finished 63rd on official money list and 160th in FedExCup points

JONAS BLIXT: Won one event (Frys.com Open), posted five top-10 finishes, finished 34th on the official money list and 71st in FedExCup points

BUD CAULEY: Posted six-top 10 finishes, finished 44th on official money list and 38th in FedExCup points

JOHN HUH: Won one event (Mayakoba Golf Classic), posted four top-10 finishes, finished 28th on official money list and 29th in FedExCup points

TED POTTER JR.: Won one event (The Greenbrier Classic) for his only top-10 finish, finished 62nd on official money list and 93rd in FedExCup points

Now it’s your turn: Who do you think will win this year’s Rookie of the Year?

I am going with John Huh #1, Jonas Blixt 2nd and Bud Cauley 3rd, but was tempted to put Blixt 1st as he only played in 21 events compared to 28 for the other two.  Current World Rankings are Huh 68th , Blixt 71st, Cauley 61st, but Huh improved his ranking the most in 2011.

thanks for the list MVMAC- so 9 Rookies in the top 90 on the money list and 4 with wins!  Pretty good stuff!  While Beljan and Potter got wins, Noh and English seemed to be competitive more often with 25 top 25s between the two compared to only 5 top 25s for the two winners.  English won on the Nationwide as an Am and I believe that Noh has won in Asia, so I expect that both of them will win on tour at some point.

Blixt really came on strong from the end of April making 11 of 12 cuts including a win, 5 top 10s and 8 top 25s.  Huh was the opposite with his win and the rest of his top 10s all coming before the end of May.

This is actually Cauley`s 2nd time in the top 125- the first came in 8 events last year after he turned pro just before the US Open.  Of the 5 nominees, I believe he is the only one who is not yet into the 2013 Masters...he obviously has a lot of game, so it would nice to see him along with the others at Augusta.

Harris English's 69 average for Th/Fr followed by a 72 average for Sat/Sun hurts.  If he can simply improve on that stat... He could make some serious noise on tour in 2013.

He definitely had some weak finishes this year when in contention on the weekend...hopefully that is just a 1 year thing as he had a sub 69 scoring ave over the weekend on the NW last year.

I'm going with Charlie Beljan.  He isn't on Huh's level yet but after seeing what he did this weekend I have to say he has a lot of heart and a lot of potential.

    • So, last night was the first night of golf league. First tee I stuck in the ground this year. First time hitting a ball off the grass. Left my putter on my indoor putting mat in the office so I was able to borrow one of my pal's spare putters. I putted poorly, but not the putters fault. Took me forever to realize the greens were very very slow. We've had tons of rain and the greens were downright furry. I also went from my car to the clubhouse to the first tee. No warm up.  It took me a bit to get it going. But finished solid. I think I had four penalty strokes in the first 5 holes.
