I've always liked Tom Abbott, or at least tolerated him. Kind of a fluffy behind the scenes though. I mean sure, I'd love to play golf with Churchill and Kennedy but you work for the Golf Channel, man! Give us one golfer at least. :-)

His is probably "TV English". They do the same here to achieve a neutral accent for the tele.

No his accent is just nothing like a normal person would use. Its even over the top for the old days when the BBC used to insist on Received Pronunciation for all presenters.

It is a very very posh accent with a Mid-Atlantic twist.

Yeah only because of the posh bit, mid-Atlantic I have no issue with, in fact i want to roll about laughing when I hear Gmac's accent.

It appears I'm late to the conversation but anywho, I went to Mercer with the kid. He has always spoken like that - I did Mercer99 with him (that was our college TV station. He did sports and occasionally reported for 15, our weekly Mercer news show). I also don't think he's had Botox. Super nice guy - a little Brit-cocky but very good in front of the camera. Also had the habit of ALWAYS counting down for his recorded reports with 3-2-1. Wish others had done that - made it so much easier in the editing room.

Long story short, I'd hit that.
