That would go a long way to winning me some golf balls!

Looks like there are 13 out of 38 who still have their champion alive.  Most of them have their money on Rose or Oosthuizen ... so let's all root against those guys today!  Kidding ... pretty sure I have Rose in my final 4, but I can't figure out how to see my bracket, I can only see the group list and everybody's champion.

And Rose is down 3 through 7.

No.  There are either 38 or 39 players still, and that was what I counted when I first tallied the winners.  (A little bit of confusion on my part because when I click on the link there in one player listed alone up top, then 38 others listed as a group.  not sure if that player up top is one of us or not.

Actually you're first right now lol If anyone wants to check the total points for everyone just click on any of the links to your bracket.

This is typical for me. I do really well after the and second round of the NCAA brackets also, but later on run out of steam.

Thought this was interesting.  Obviously Tiger losing might lead to the assumption he played bad but not always the case in match play.

Jeff Rude analyzes Tiger's loss and based on the numbers, it's not as if he played poorly. Charles Howell was just a little bit greater.

Quote:

Woods played well, missing just one fairway and three greens in regulation. But Howell just played better in the only one of the 32 opening matches that featured no bogeys. Howell made four birdies to Woods’ two, missed only two greens and putted better, particularly from long range.

“I hit a lot of good shots out there,” Woods said. “Unfortunately it’s the nature of the format. It’s just the way it goes. I’ve seen matches where a guy shoots 7-under-par and he’s going home, and I remember at La Costa there was a match where a player shot 7 over and won. It happens.”

Tiger is not the natural player that he was when he was an amateur.  He is more mechanical now, and I honestly think that match play is more of an art form than an engineering construct.  He seems to have lost touch with the art of golf.

So, you agree that he can't play match play.

This could be a collective epic failure.  Of the 38 or 39 picks, only 8 winning picks remain, and three of those are in danger.

McDowell (2)- AS through 5

Mahan - Up 1 through 10

Poulter - Up 2 through 13

Oosthuizen (3) - Down 2 through 10

Colsaerts - Won

Piercy has been the only true upset today so far.

I was in the air about Garcia/Kuchar.  That one could have went either way.  I'm also not involved in this one, I must have missed it, but have another bracket going.

I chose Poulter because I thought it was risky enough that not many would have chosen him (I figured Tiger/Rory would suck up the majority), but given his performance in match play in the past, he's always a threat to win in this format.

I meant brutal as in kicking butt. However Bubba's putting is bad and getting worse. Doubt he can hang on now that Jim has squared it. His body language is all wrong. Though Furyk is starting to stand over putts a-la the RC so who knows.

Good for Jason Day. That was a task fending off Henley. Go Stricker!

    • Hitting some good shots on my golf trip. It's good I can tell when I hit better shots the way I want to swing the ball versus when I use an older swing. Shockingly, the short game has been at worst, not harmful to my game. I am using similar feels to the full swing, in that I try to get my hands down. I've been nipping the ball clean off the turf.
    • I was laid off two months ago. Good severance, a 90 day layoff announcement regulation the company wanted to avoid so technically I'm still on the payroll for a few weeks, and a bunch of banked PTO, so I'm in a great spot and working on a startup idea I've been batting around with my brother for a while. That means I've got time to get to the gym! I'm at like 60-75 minutes 5x a week of strength training, and either a run or a bunch of time playing soccer or tennis with my daughter on the weekends. Stronger than I've been in forever. Up ~5 pounds of (noticeable!) muscle!
    • Do you have examples of exceptional scores versus their established handicap indexes?
    • Day 539, April 23, 2024 Mirror work once again. When I get back to swings, I'll just do it A. LOT.
    • A bit of background. The Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) runs an annual event known as "Team Play." It is a wildly popular match play competition where Men's Clubs across the region put together teams of 20+ golfers together to compete against other clubs in a 16 vs. 16 match. In any given year, approximately 80-100 clubs will participate. Each club is grouped into "pods" of 4, and will play 6 total matches - one home and one away match against the other 3 clubs. The winning club from each pod advances to the Team Play Playoffs - a single elimination format - until a winner is crowned.  Antelope Valley Country Club just advanced to the championship match for the 3rd consecutive year. They won the championship in both 2022 and 2023.  Based on my review of the match history from the past 3 years (linked below), they have won 21 consecutive team matches. Keep in mind, these are handicapped matches, so this is not just a case where a group of sticks bands together to dominate the poor amateurs other SoCal clubs. Even if these guys are grinders who never quit, play their best under pressure and routinely putt the lights out, the law of averages still say that a streak of that nature is mathematically impossible.  Is there any plausible explanation beyond institutionalized sandbagging throughout the club?
