Hank was talking about how he knows what it takes, and keep going and going until he hits his goals. I think its his attitude that puts off many, and if you know athletes, they all have an attitude. Hell, the NEED and attitude. You don't become #1 in the world at ANYTHING without strong work ethic on top of gobs of talent, and some cockiness. You need to believe you are the best to be the best.

The difference: Phelps isn't becoming the #1 golfer in the world.

Excelling at one thing does not mean you're going to excel at everything . Or have the same attitude, or approach.

Sure.

I just think that the game of golf has that unique ability to cause you to "doubt"   --

I think that, similar to Rush, Phelps got a little better more because he hit more golf balls and was able to practice golf than due to any "instruction" he got from Hank Haney.

I would agree that anyone will get better from merely hitting balls alone, but I don't think that's anything against Haney. To get anyone from over 100 to about 80 in like 10 practice sessions is pretty good...

I think Haney did a great job with Phelps. I would have preferred the finale to be him breaking 90 rather than the Olympic showdown.  The Olympic showdown could have been the episode before.
