Rory's path has always been well OUTward. If he does something that exaggerates it even more, he can have troubles. Curing it might be as simple as one little feel or it might involve more work, but the fact that some writer thinks it's a quick fix doesn't mean it isn't... and it doesn't mean that his swing is not the root cause.

Everyone compensates. If his hands are going out more to start his backswing, he'll likely over-compensate the depth they gain in transition and he'll swing even MORE OUTward.

Yep, like what Rory said, "The problem is, I’m bringing the club too upright on the backswing then dropping it in too much on the downswing.”

I took Norco (twice as strong as Vicodin) before every round for a couple of months with no ill effects.  But the real problem is that the very same day he went out with his coach to work on his game.  So which could it have been?  If pain-killers interfere with his swing then how could he have worked on his swing in that impaired condition?  And if they left him well enough to practice then they left him well enough to play.

Another point, with the (questionable) reputation of British dentistry, if the tooth was the real issue (which he has now basically admitted wasn't) why wouldn't he get it done here by a top notch dentist?  Surely he could spend a miniscule percent of that $20 million  year he gets from Nike.  And if he is squeamish about the dentist they will put you out.  I had to have a deep cleaning and was put out under IV sedation and never knew a thing about what happened.  And I am going to have my wisdoms out in May (they aren't giving me any pain so putting it off makes sense) and I'll have them do the same thing.  I've always been a big baby when it comes to the dentist but they are very accommodating these days.  And I'm pretty sure Rory can get a better dentist than I can.  And I'm equally sure he is better overall health than I am, and therefore well able to take IV sedation.

He'll take some garbage for this but he will get past it.  He'll learn from it.  In some ways it is his first small taste of what Tiger has been going through since 1996 - the intense scrutiny, the inability to trust almost anyone.  It is a little sad for both of them but that is the way superstardom is in the 24/7 TMZ Internet age.  The Nike contract was his own little "Hello world" moment.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

I mean, that's great.

But come clean in the first place. Think it through before the excuses begin.

"It's nothing, bad place mentally, wisdom teeth, got some things going on with the swing..."

Rors is young, a celebrity, works as a golfer, and has played terribly since he began the season. He pays professionals and coaches to advise him. They seem to have floundered. But the buck stops with Rors.

If I was his agent, I'd take his temperature on a weekly basis, anticipate the worst, and be prepared to advise Rors.

But, my gosh, he is young. I can't imagine handling these types of issues and attempting to handle them in an honest, mature, and organized manner (of course, that's why he has an agent).

Norco and Vicodin are the same thing - trade names for hydrocodone+paracetamol.  Plus if you were taking it before every round you had built up some tolerance.

I'm not defending Rory, just saying *if* there is any truth to the tooth story, it's reasonable that he didn't want to take pain killers during a tournament, if he was not used to doing so and thought that his swing would be less impaired by his discomfort than by being drugged up.

As expected.  There was some tooth pain, but not the reason why he quit.  I applaud Rory for speaking the truth and owning his lapse in judgment.

Anyone know if there's video of Rory presser available anywhere?

C'mon really? I like Rory. I wanna put this issue to bed but he says things like this:

the only person he'd trust to fix the problem is his dentist back home in Northern Ireland.

It's a Widom Tooth, not brain surgery.

I give him props for coming right out and saying that he didn't quit because of the tooth, he quit because he had a momentary lapse of baby la la. He didn't hide behind any excuses and fully accepted the fact that he acted like a big suck.

The Tour should give him a fine so there is closure and we can all move on.

Agreed. Now that he has come out and given himself a "redcard" we are now in a position to admire his honesty and empathize with him. This plays out that Rors is human, even if he makes the kind of money that could run a small city.

The last place I'd go to fix anything dental is the UK or Ireland ... no wonder he has issues.

I'm impressed with how Rory handled the press conference today.  He did an excellent job answering the questions.  Hopefully his practice the last couple days will get him back on track on the course.

He did a good job at the interview. If he kept going with the tooth story, the theories would never end. At least he had the guts to admit making a mistake and coming clean. I hope it won't happen again. Rory probably learnt a valuable lesson.

Very nicely done Rory, a near hole-in-one in fact.  Pity our politicians can't fess up like this when they make a mistake ..... Silly me - they got elected!

This augurs well for Rory's future, psychology-wise.  Should impress the GF as well ....

    • A bit of background. The Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) runs an annual event known as "Team Play." It is a wildly popular match play competition where Men's Clubs across the region put together teams of 20+ golfers together to compete against other clubs in a 16 vs. 16 match. In any given year, approximately 80-100 clubs will participate. Each club is grouped into "pods" of 4, and will play 6 total matches - one home and one away match against the other 3 clubs. The winning club from each pod advances to the Team Play Playoffs - a single elimination format - until a winner is crowned.  Antelope Valley Country Club just advanced to the championship match for the 3rd consecutive year. They won the championship in both 2022 and 2023.  Based on my review of the match history from the past 3 years (linked below), they have won 21 consecutive team matches. Keep in mind, these are handicapped matches, so this is not just a case where a group of sticks bands together to dominate the poor amateurs other SoCal clubs. Even if these guys are grinders who never quit, play their best under pressure and routinely putt the lights out, the law of averages still say that a streak of that nature is mathematically impossible.  Is there any plausible explanation beyond institutionalized sandbagging throughout the club? • Interesting that Scottie is #10 on the all time money list and he's been on the PGAT for 4 years. Of course, purses are bigger now, but  neat to look at non-the-less.  The list of top 18 money winners in PGA Tour history has plenty of surprises This list is updated through the 2024 RBC Heritage. To add, Scottie won 4.5 million at the Players, Jack played 44 seasons and won a little of 5 million on course.
    • 43 (6 over) Couple bogies, couple Pars, a birdie and no doubles. Not bad for first 9 of the year.
    • Most the stuff I found on Instagram and just copy and mix it up. a few of my favorites: Clean>Squat>Press> March Around the body >catch >Squat> press I also hold a the kettle bell upside down with both hands on the handle. Squat when I stand back up I lift the kettlebell up over and behind my head and hold then repeat
